Advanced Cable Communications Reviews

  • Apr 22, 2014

It is called lying by omission when Advanced Cable and other internet service providers advertise ""blazing high speed internet services"" of up to 30 Megs per second. Let me explain... A moderately fast internet connection speed for home use would be 4 Megabytes (MBps) per second. When Advanced Cable advertises on TV or Internet, they advertise using the term ""MEGS"" per second, which they define as Megebits (Mbps).

To a normal person not familiar with internet terminology, Megabytes (MBps) is 8 times faster than Megabits (Mbps). The upper case ""B"" is Megabytes and the lower case ""b"" is Megabits. In my case, I have had Advanced Cable service for both cable TV and internet service from 2007 to current. Whe I initially purchased services in 2007, I paid for Cable Services and 6 Megabyte internet service. This was from 2007 t0 2011. Then I moved to another apartment in the same complex and had to cut off service from my old apartment and re-connect to my new apartment.

I speaking with the sales person about transferring service from one apartment to another, he asked if I wanted 15 Meg (not Megabytes) high speed internet service for less money than I was previously paying. Of course I said yes.

Little did I know that the sales pitch technical terminology had changed to Megs, not meaning Megabytes but Megabits. So instead of receiving 4 Megabytes per second, I am now receiving 2 Megabytes per second, or 8 times less because of the deceiving terminology used by sales and marketing personnel at Advanced Cable.

These deceptive marketing, advertising and sales efforts are not unique to Advanced Cable, but extend Comcast and ATT as well.

To add fuel to the fire, slowly over the months the internet connectivity has been getting slower and slower. There are currently no guidelines or monitoring of ISP's in the US when it comes to these false advertising claims, and if someone tries to complain, most people do not know enough about the technology to detect the problems. There needs to be legislation to protect the consumer as with the other public service sectors like telephone and power.... this is getting way out-of-hand
