Yesterday, April 14 at approximately 2pm I received an unsolicited visit from a door-to-door salesman employed by Alarm Protection, a company with an office in Huntsville, but based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was polite enough and I felt charitable enough to entertain his spiel about a free security system upgrade with lower monthly rates. I took his information and said I would discuss it with my husband. After doing online research on his company, I came to discover Alarm Protection has 116 complaints with the Better Business Bureau and has had their accreditation revoked. I called him back later that day at 3:44pm and politely told him I would not be interested in his offer and, concerned with the possibility of being scammed by others, posted a "No Solicitation" sign on my front door.
Today, April 15th, a different representative from Alarm Protection approached my home while I was outside. I told him whatever he was selling, I wasn't buying. He persisted. I told him, "Bye." He still persisted, following me as I walked. I told him, "No soliciting." He replied, "This isn't soliciting. This is crime prevention." I finally had to threaten to call the police, and he left. My neighbor witnessed the entire incident.
Later today at approximately 6pm, after my husband came home, the same salesman came back, ignored my "No Soliciting" sign, and knocked on the door anyway to talk to my husband. I pointed out the sign to him, and he claimed he had the right to ignore it because he was trying to help us! I had to tell him to leave again, and he argued with me for five minutes before he left. This time, one of my clients witnessed our heated exchange. I believe I am being harassed by Alarm Protection and their employees. Though I did not get his name, I told my harasser if he came back again I would definitely call the police. However, this company clearly uses overly aggressive tactics and I am afraid they will send yet another person to knock on my door and harass me again. It is my understanding that they have a local office on 1101 McMurtrie Drive NW in Huntsville. I have filed an incident report with the Madison County Sheriff and the Better Business Bureau.
