All Peddlers Reviews

  • Jul 2, 2014

My husband and I decided to stop in the All Peddlers store last night, to shop around. In one booth, there were various electronics and other little neat gadgets, including a few routers. Our router at home already has seen a few years of use and it was nearing its end, so I thought that maybe buying one to replace it would be practical. Plus, 15 bucks wasn't such a bad deal. We get up to the register and there was a disgruntled old lady who obviously didn't want to be there. I asked about returns, if it didn't work, what should I do? She sighed and then told me in a condescending tone, "You have 24 hours."

So I get it home and proceed to try to install it and configure it, putting in the little CD. Suddenly, my Avast antivirus program pops up a red window with a message that it was Win32:Evo_gen, a bad backdoor opening virus that had been blocked. There was a virus on that CD! So that was my first indication that there was some tampering that had already happened on this "repurposed" router.

So, after trying to configure it, I try to consult Time Warner's website for a little help. It turns out, that router was a DYNEX brand and it wasn't compatible with their modem. First I thought that was pretty absurd, what router isn't compatible with a -modem-?

So I package it all back up and get ready to return it the next day.

I bring it back in, and the lady behind the counter acts like she doesn't want to deal with me. I try to return it, proceeding to tell her that the CD almost virused my computer and that the modem and router were not compatible. Then they proceeded to tell me NO REFUNDS, even though I had the receipt and that it still worked. I explained to them that yes, it works PHYSICALLY, it just does not work IN GENERAL. They still told me, NO REFUNDS.

She doesn't even offer to call the vendor to ask if I could get a refund, because I'm not about to keep this paperweight I don't even want. I'm sure the vendor would've allowed it. There is NO sign on the front door about refunds, so I guess they don't have to tell you about it. Plus that woman had a mouth on her, too. She didn't have a name tag on so I couldn't get her name but she was nasty and rude to both my husband and I when we tried to explain to her about what was wrong with it.

The funny thing is that when I bought it I never saw any sign of a "no refund" sign anywhere near their registers, but I come in the next day and there's a little sign written on receipt tape and sloppily taped on the front of the register. If I would've seen that the previous night I wouldn't have bought the modem in the first place.

I will spread the word around to all of my co-workers and family to not shop there, and hope they will spread the word. If that's the way they wish to conduct their nasty business I will shop elsewhere. When all those vendors wonder why they aren't getting any business they might want to look at who's controlling the register.

If you want to go broke, put up a booth here. The cashiers don't want your customers' business, they'd rather sit around and do nothing.
