In August of 2013 I had 3 payday loans I couldn't get rid of because I could only afford to keep extending them every two weeks. I filled out several long term loan applications online for less than perfect credit. I was contacted by Chris Newton supposedly representing American Funds Services a long term loan company. I was told they could help me get a long term loan of $5,000 and only have to pay $244.10 a month for 24 months even with my credit. Chris Newton sent me the loan agreement to sign and fax back to him. In the loan agreement it stated that 1 collateral from the following had to be put down co-signer, vehicle, security deposit, and real estate which could only be used for approved loans of $70,000 or higher. I didn't own a vehicle or real estate so I choose a co-signer to put down. My brother was my co-signer and he had a credit score in the 700 range which I thought was pretty high but apparently Chris Newton said it wasn't high enough because it needed to be in the 800 range. So he said I needed to put down a security deposit of $500 which I sent to him and it cost an extra $40 on top of the $500. I sent it on a Wednesday and he assured me that I would have the $5,000 in my account by the end of the day. I stressed to Chris Newton about the importance of needing the money by Thursday because I had payday loans being taken out of my account and that was my whole paycheck I sent. That Thursday I spoke to Chris Newton twice both times he said he was going to talk to the distrubution department and find out why the money wasn't in my account and call me back. By that Friday I was in overdraft over $500 from the pay day loan places trying to get their money from me. I called Chris Newton over and over all day Friday and Saturday and couldn't get ahold of him. I finally broke down in tears to my sister over the phone she lives in Michigan. I emailed her a copy of the loan agreement with Chris Newton's contact information that I used to get ahold of him with. My sister called him from her house phone in Michigan and sure enough he answered her call. The first thing my sister told him was that their phone call was being recorded for legal purposes so I can file a lawsuit and report him for scamming and stealing people's hard earned money. She told Chris Newton that he needs to return my money to me within 24 hours along with telling him how much of a scum and piece of nothing he was for lying and stealing people's money that they worked hard for. Chris Newton tried to tell my sister that he was just the middle man in the company and ofcourse said he would talk to the distribution department about my loan and my sister told him I didn't want the loan I just wanted my $540 back or charges would be pressed against him. He assured my sister I would recieve a check in the mail within a week my sister informed him that he was still being recorded so if I didn't recieve my money within a week than more charges would be pressed on him because he was being recorded conforming and agreeing to give me my money back. Ofcourse after that phone call with my sister Chris Newton blocked my phone calls to him along with my sister's I never did recieve my money back but I did file a police report and the officer told me that it would be transfered over to the FBI because it was a federal offense. Chris Newton/American Funds Services cost me over $1000 from their lying theiving heartless actions on myself and other honest hardworking people. I will spend years paying off the debt that he has caused me.
