American Painting Reviews

I've tried to recoup the expenses for pre-paying for the work that never got completed.

Comes off as a clean cut young man with promises of high quality work and how his dad taught him the business etc. This guy is a complete hoax, his quality of work is horrible, overspray everywhere. Payment up front for paint, what type of overhead is there in this business that he can't cover a couple hundred bucks in paint.

In efforts to save a some money it cost me hundreds of dollars to get the work done right and fix all his shotty work.

Apparently this is a tactic he's practiced several times and is a part of his normal course of business. Seems as if he's determined the level of pain before someone sues him for the ripoffs he does on a regular basis.

It went against my better judgement to give him more money after the paint costs, but he gave me some story of the financial bind he was in and how it would really make a difference to him and his newly wed wife. (He's probably not even married)

Advice to other's - stay away, or don't ever pay him and let him get a dose of his own medicine.

He's never returned calls, texts and I'm sure has blocked my number.

Scott and Chris came to bid a paint job for my small home of 2100sqf. One room was already painted, leaving about 1800sqf to paint. Bid was $10,500.00 ...pretty darn high, but they had the sales pitch about their quality and reliability. They asked for 1/3 upfront to cover the cost of materials. Against my better judgement I gave it to them. They were supposed to start on January 17th, and immediately started texting in the morning cancelling the day due to illness. This became a pattern. If they showed up a couple of hours a week I was very lucky. The job was supposed to take 3 weeks...two and half months later there is not one room completed and the small amount of work they did has to be redone.

They started the work and almost immediately I noticed something odd about the paint. Where they cut the color in at the top and bottom of the walls the color was fine (they took it right out of the can). However, the walls were transparent, and I could see the original color underneath. They left the unused buckets of paint behind, which I had analyzed. Came to find out they were adding water to the paint to cut corners and stretch the amount of paint they used. Even after two coats you could still see through it. They sanded the trim and never wiped the dust off before they painted over it, leaving a gritty sandy look and feel to everything. Their work was sub par at best and they never cleaned up after themselves. Not to mention the fact that when they did show up, they came 45 minutes to an hour late and with a different person every time...none of whom had any painting experience.

When they attempted spraying the cabinets in two bathrooms, there were long paint drips running down the cabinets which they made worse by using a paint brush on the drips after they had already started to set. What a mess! Scott removed the doors to take them home to reprep and ""spray correctly"", then never showed up again or returned the doors. I now have to buy all new cabinet doors to the tune of several hundred dollars.

I had just installed new hardwood floors which they did not use proper covering to protect, so they are now not only covered in deep gouges, they are covered in paint. Not to mention a ton of debris all over the house and bags of trash they never removed.

After they got a couple of rooms started, not done, they asked for more money. In the end I wound up giving them $6,800.00. Ultimately, they disappeared, leaving me with an unfinished house and no cabinet doors. Anything they started painting has to be REPAINTED, due to the fact that the paint was diluted and the new painters cannot touch it up because the color doesn't match. The cost of completeing the job and correcting the damage and mistakes they created is an additoinal $9,500,00 bringing my total cost to paint this little house up to over $15,000.00.

I tracked down other customers who have had almost the identical experience and all are seeking legal remediation. ALSO...please be sure to google arrest records before you hire anyone. Wish I had done that to begin with as I would never have allowed them in my home.
