After loosing my job last year as so many americans did. I ended up in a hoeless shelter with a wife and a two yr old. I had been attending American Public University for two years and I had to start a class two days after I got evected and lost my place. I logged into the class and Introduced myself and did not do anything else in the class which means they were supposed drop me from the class for lack of class perticipation. They didn't and I ended up getting an F for the class. I appealed the F and they said I needed documentation from the shelter which I gave them and they still would not amend the F because then they would have to give me a Refund. I am a veteran and to get ripped off from a school that hides behind American Military University and treat veteran like crap is a shame.
After speaking to some former students of American Public University I decided to enroll in classes. The first year of school was fine. The classes were okay, nothing special and about what I expected for internet classes. And then the next year started and it was a completely different story. That's when it all went down hill.
I enrolled for two classes for the semester. The first class started and I noticed that the syllabus posted by the professor was not even for the class I was registered...and the assignment due dates were all dated for the past semester. I emailed the professor and asked him what was going on. His response to me was that it was an error in the system and that he would fix it but to go ahead and complete the assignments...HUH? How can I hand in assignments when I dont know what to read and dont know when they are do? Never got a response and a week later he never fixed the problem. Curious I went into the class roster and noticed that there were only two students attending his course. I droppoed the course.
The second class started a few weeks later. All was find the first couple of weeks. During this time I moved to another state. I submitted three papers online..they were never graded. After I handed in the third paper I questioned the professor about a problem I had submitting the third paper. He responded that they papers were late. I explained that I had moved. He refused to grade them at all instead of deducting points. The papers were literally 1 hour late because of the new time difference. In addition to that he refused to respond to emails. Posted grades four weeks after classes started. I handed in a fourth paper and he said for some reason he could not ""see"" it online and asked me to resend. I resent and he refused to grade that paper as well. So this is a eight week course. He refused to grade four of my assignments.
At this point I call the financial aid office and tell the rep what is going on. I tell her that the professor is refusing to grade my assignments and at this point even if I complete the last four assignments there is NO way I will pass.I ask her if I can drop the class. She tells me NO I cannot drop the class or the government will file a title IV against me. So I email the professor and ask if it is even worth it for me to hand in any additional assignments at this point. He refused to answer my question instead saying he posted grades.
If you are a student who depends on financial aid to attend college...stay FAR away from this university! They have told me differing stories and lies regarding my financial aid over the past two semesters and NO one at the school can keep their story and facts straight. I had repeatedly asked the school if I would receive my financial aid to pay for my recent semester and was assured that I would...then all of a sudden they tell me that I am not eligible for financial aid and are sticking me with a bill for tuition. If they had been honest and told me that there was even a remote chance that I could not receive aid to pay for the semester, I would NOT have enrolled! Yet, they wait to tell me that I cannot get aid until I have been past the time for any refund or drop dates, ensuring that they can bill me for tuition! This school is loaded with scammers that work for the financial aid department!
My advice....stay far away unless you wanna pay dearly! I have kept all evidence of emails from the financial aid department that demonstrates their misrepresentation to me regarding financial aid and it is sad to see how their many different excuses and explanations regarding financial aid completely contradict the schools own financial aid policies that can be found within their handbook! The school is now totally ignoring all of my emails to them that point out their misrepresentation of course, and I now know that they have lied to me in order to make their profits at my expense. I have read other reports regarding this schools financial aid nightmares as well as reviews for online schools from other students who have been put into the same boat as I am in. I really think that this school should be investigated and that a lawsuit should be brought against them on behalf of all the students that have been lied to by the financial aid department!
