Real Estate Agents Beware!

An older man met me at a public location and did an hour long presentation on why I should spend thousands of dollars every three months to advertize with American Real Estate Idols.

Several things struck me as odd about this "company":

• The name is beyond cheesey - not professional AT ALL

• The website is obviously fake - stock photos pulled from the internet - not

real employees, etc.

• When the man called to set up the appointment he was calling from a

blocked number and would not give me a number in case I needed to

call

• The materials I was given to take home looked like a 6th grade English

project - again, extremely unprofessional

• The guy who started this company got into trouble in California for criminal

real estate sales.

• The tv commercial they pretend they will run 700 times a day(really?ha!ha!VeryFunny) is horrible - some girl off the street in a floor length sequined gown who obviously is not an actor but most probably a black jack dealer they have dressed up as a lounge singer

Please do not give them any of your hard earned money.

This guy (Michael Harris) will most likely be featured on the next episode of American Greed.

changed name to agentsbycity.com

There seems to be a connection to a new similar company opertating on the east coast which goes by the name of agentsbycity.com. He does not go by Michael Harris but the guys name is Peter Alexander. Same pitch basically, but I applied for work, but I can't get much info on it's connection to 1-800-DENTIST which this guys says the founder of agentsbycity.com was started by the guy who created 1-800-DENTIST. He gave me his card with the address which connects to a mailbox business similar to UPS. He's been traveling from Pennsylvania down the east coast to Florida. The website is agentsbycity.com. Is this the same guy? To much connection to me to be a coincidence.

I was contacted by a cold caller in June 2014 about a great new lead generation company that would offer national TV ad campaigns. The TV stations that where pitched by my sales person were NBC Sports, ABC Family, Food Network amongst others. I was told only one agent would be sold to any given zip code. I was told ads were currently being made and that the launch would be Aug. 1, 2014, I wrote a check to secure the zip code and it was cashed immediately.

There have been no ads run, there is no one answering the Customer Service line and there are no ads on TV. I called my sales person but he doesn't respond. No one asnwers the phone and its clear this is a super scam. I will be contacting my local Attorney Generals office. If you have been scammed here as well, I would love to hear from you here on the site. I am so upset that I listened to the garbage and paid them a huge sum of money that I will never see again. Michael Harris goes by the name of REX which is not his name. He also stated in his emails that he hired 2500 customer service agents to field all the calls. This truely is a scam. I am not sure how to go about getting my money back. Is anyone else in the same dumb boat that I am in that I actually believed the sales person that met me in person? Again, the sales person refuses to return my calls. There was an email saying that they were "changing the name because the name wasn't liked by the stations....." I believe we have all been taken on this one. If you have any suggestions, I am open! I am a very smart girl, but this one caught me off guard.

I called Customers services and this are the email I was able to obtain: [email protected]. Agents please be aware of this company is a scam.

All RE Agents - Stay FAR, FAR, FAR AWAY from this company!!!

If I could give this company ZERO STARS, I definitely would!

I was a Sales Rep for this "company" for less than 2 weeks before realizing that this is a complete SCAM. I only sold one area, but it was, unfortunately, to my own RE Agent. I have never been so embarrassed to have been involved with something as I am about this. Believe me, I can almost guarantee that you aren't getting a response for one of two reasons: either the rep is like me and quit immediately upon discovering that we too were duped by Michael Harris, or he/she is in on the scam and doesn't want to get caught.

I started with them back in the spring of 2014, got about 3-4 hours of telephone based training and then was sent out on preset appointments. I was told that this had been "test marketed" in three very specific areas of the country and "no one had used their guarantee". About a week and a half after beginning to run appointments, I was asked - more than once - for specifics regarding how many referrals the people in the "test" area had received. I called my manager who indicated that the managers had also been trying to get that information from Michael (or Rex, as we were told to call him). She told me I should call him directly and see if I could pin him down on it. I called and asked him for details on numbers and was told 'No one ever said there was test marketing done. This is an entirely new concept so no one knows how well it will do'. I reminded him of the conference call he insisted we all be on the previous Saturday morning where he had said exactly that. He claimed he had said no such thing.

I then called my manager back and asked if she had been on the Sat. AM call and whether or not she recalled the same comment I did. Her response was "That's EXACTLY what he said, why?" When I told her that he had just told me the exact opposite she was very upset. By the end of the day, she was no longer with the company. This was on a Friday & the only reason I "stayed" until the Monday was to get the paycheck I was owed. Michael even had the nerve to tell me not to cash the check because he was going to offer my customer a refund and if he took it, then I wouldn't "deserve" to be paid. I asked him why he was offering a refund if the whole company wasn't a huge scam, but he never replied.

To all RE Agents - as my title says, stay as FAR AWAY from this company (or any other name he might have come up with - Agents By City, perhaps?) as you possibly can and WARN other agents about them too!!!

MeToo!

I am from the Philadelphia suburbs and also paid $3700 for the same deal and my account was never set up. Michael Harris promised through email in the beginning of November that it would be taken care of. He said he was filming and preparing a new website and branding. I asked for details on marketing and he would not tell me. the company phone number and email no longer works for AREI or for my salesman, Peter Askandar. The website is gone too. Do not believe anything Michael Harris says. And Michael, you don't need my name, you know who I am. This is a scam. I will be contacting an attorney.

  • Nov 26, 2014

I just paid $2500 to get leads from their commercials, which were to start in October. Maybe they are playing, but I have not seen any. I have not received my login info for the website, or any welcome emails. My check was cashed and then silence......

My account manager answered his phone 2 weeks ago and directly me to email him and customer service. Neither responded. Both numbers 855-734-3657 and 702-501-7340 are out of service. I emailed customer service again and received an automated reply that due to the Thanksgiving holiday, they will contact me next week. My account manager did not pick up his phone today.

My gut tells me I may not get a reply. Anyone have advice?

  • Oct 17, 2014

What about the site does work??????????

When we signed up, we were promised ads starting October 1st. No ads.

A separate web page. No contact from AREI as promised by saleman.

24/7 operators answering queries. I have called over 25 times and never gotten an answer. Until recently their message was to e-mail them.Voice mail has changed, but now e-mail is bounced back. Clearly the policy is we don't talk to the agents if we have cashed their checks.

This is supposed to be modeled on 1-800-DENTISTS, a legitimate business that has had some success, but at least does what it says it will do.

I have had several people test the system to see if they would be referred to us. They always get someone from elsewhere (up to 50 miles away) until recently when they started getting a message that said that there was no agent for the zip code. AREI had sold exclusivity as part of the deal.

To answer some of the defense given above. The site in its current form could be put together very simply at nominal cost. What was promised and would be costly is new ads (those referred to were sold to us as test ads for the Vegas and Texas area). The sales rep may have engaged in hyperbole, but promised at least one with an HGTV star.

The way the rep explained the planned ads (again represented as remnant purchase) was logical and spread across a number of demographics. It is actually a lot easier than you might think to buy 700 ads spread across the 20 or so networks.

Remnant advertising on a national basis is at best hit-or-miss and I thought we went into this with our eyes open about potential for success. However, we did not expect to be defrauded.

Communication with people who have given them large amounts of money might have been a good place to start. It's a lot easier to accept a situation when there is an explanation, but when a contract is not fulfilled AND there is no communication it is not only a legal issue, it shows a total disregard for ethics.

  • Oct 20, 2014

AGAIN ONE PERSON WITH NO NAME! PHONE REP WAS FIRED

IF THIS WAS A REAL CLIENT THEY WOULD PUT THEIR NAME? HGTV?

  • Nov 17, 2014

Completely Agree

I was promised the exact same thing. Ads to begin Oct. 1, sep web page...They cashed my check quickly but will not respond to any communications...now the voice mail says the live call center will open Dec.1

There must be something that we can do to recoup our hard earned money!
