My husband and I flew to Aspen for Food and Wine where we fell in love with an "original" Ron Agam painting. It was offered for sale by Aspen Art Gallery and we met the owner Damian Guillot which we verified with a post card with his photo on it. He was a boisterous character, flamboyant even and quite entertaining at first, although he shouted his words. My husband is a psychiatrist and later said 'that man has "pressure of speech" ' and he explained the disorder to me. Damian Guillot quoted me a price of $110,000 talking very fast in a southern accent "you know ma'am I'm his agent so I can get you this piece for $90,000 because we sell to other galleries".

He went on talking to some other people in the Gallery very loudly and we couldn't help but overhear him say "she recognized me from The Millionaire Matchmaker with Patti Stanger!" talking about a girl he met on a plane. So my husband said we can't spend that kind of money without checking on the artist as it became evident this guy was living the high-life. My husband stepped outside and googled his name off of the post card and saw some very alarming charges filed in The Aspen Times and we asked around at our hotel and heard a multitude of stories.

I asked our concierge at The Nell to find me other galleries that sell Agam and to my surprise, he presented me a gallery nearby our home in New York that had the same piece titled "Dynamic Movement" only theirs was painted black and the one we liked was Red. Ironically the owner of the New York called "Vered" Gallery is also named Damien but with an "e". The New York owner was very nice and quoted me a price of $31,000 so my husband was irate and we went back in the gallery the next day. The owner of Aspen Art Gallery was not there and we met a tall man and tall woman when we came in and asked for Damian.

We made it clear that we only wanted to speak with the owner. We stopped back three times to confront him and caught him on Saturday to which he snapped "well Ron Agam is not for everybody! If you can't afford it, don't buy it." He smelled of alcohol so we figured everyone was drinking as it was Food and Wine and left. It is clear that if The Vered gallery quoted an Agam for $30,000 they must purchase it for $10 or maybe $15,000, and Aspen Art Gallery multiplies that same piece by 8 or 10 times his cost. Damian Guillot is a fraud.
