Assurant Insurance Reviews

Signed up for Assurant Insurance when I moved into my previous apartment and never heard from them again. I paid a bill for the first month and never recieved another notice or bill. I was then notified by my brother that I had letters from them coming to his house over an hour away and in no way attached to my name and have never lived there.

Why would they send my personal information there in the first place? I was instantly horrified by what information could have gone to someone else!

Months later after moving from that apartment I began recieving letters from them saying I had autopay and that my bank was declining their payments. I had no clue why they would even assume I had auto pay when I never signed up for it in the first place because I specifically asked for paper bills and they never sent me a bill/notice.

Common sense would tell you they would send it to the address that was not only the insured location but also the mailing address. I asked my brother if he had recieved anything from them and he hadn't either. I attempted calling numerous times to resolve the matter but everytime I called the automated message says they are closed and to call back during business hours.

I have had this same response from two different customer service numbers that I called numerous times during the day specifically over 3 hours before they closed! I assumed okay well I should be able to logon to the online account so as I registered for the account it requires a policy effective date which I do not have because it is only located on the bill not the random letter they sent me about the bank so I was unable to acquire an account.

When we moved into our new apartment my boyfriend signed up for renters insurance through what we thought was a different company. It turned out it was the same one but with a different name. We paid our first payment like usual and we have only been here for about a month.

A couple days ago we recieved two notices (one addressed to me and one addressed to him) saying our policy was pending cancellation if we did not pay the overdue bill for this apartment. Keep in mind the last insurance policy was completely in my name not related to him at all and this one is completely in his name and not attached to me at all.

I am not exactly sure what this company has going on. They never sent a regular bill to us in the first place and then they randomly send us a notice saying they are going to cancel our policy if we don't pay the payment that isn't even due yet? Not only that the bill is double what our monthly payment is supposed to be. Also the letter about declined payments on the former apartment is addressed to me but refers to my boyfriend as the person insured...? How would they have his information to begin with? And why are they sending me notices for the new apartment that isn't even billed to me?

Over all I am fed up with this company. I would say avoid at all costs but that would require them to use the same name.
