I ordered A license for antivirus software. I was unaware that my laptop PC came with preinstalled antivirus software so when I installed the avast software it cost my computer to crash. I immediately phoned their customer service phone number and they were aware that the problem caused damage to my computer . I requested a refund only to be told that I needed to submittd a request in writing and they would send me an email showing me where I needed to submit a billing ticket.

I forgot to send the request right away 5wo months later, I did submit a refund request later only to be told that since I did not request the refund within the guarantee period that they would deny my refund. If a product is purchased and and a company is immediately told that the product is incompatible then proper customer service is to refund the money. I never used their antivirus software, I had to return the laptop to the store and get a replacement. I feel that the company scammed me out of my $49.00. DO not buy Avast Antivirus software. You will never get your money back.

When Microsoft stopped support for windows XP our old computer was at risk and would not work well. Avast said that they offered support for WindowsXP along with security. The Premier program covered everything for one year including tech support for $222.00 satisfaction guaranteed.

Problems started at the beginning. The tech support was not very good as we had to continually call. A level two tech had to be brought in and the problems continued. The PC got progressively slow and to the point we decided a new computer would be the best way to go. Purchased a Mac and left Microsoft in the dust. I called Avast to cancel the guaranteed service and was then told due to the tech support we received that a refund was not available.

OK, so because of using tech support over and over which did not correct the problems which was guaranteed we can't get our money back. It 's like taking a car to a shop for repair guaranteed but when it's not fixed they say that because of all their time spent on the car you still owe a bill! Obviously it is a sales gimmick to get your credit card money.

They do offer the program for our new computer which is not needed!

I used the Avast free software for one year and then upgraded to the paid $19.99 product. Last week pop-up asked for manual update of the product, which I did. Next pop-up asked if I wanted to try their new add-on for Chrome. I clicked yes and my entire computer locked up. Did a system restore which did not help, so called Avast for support. After an hour on the phone with no success, I was told that I needed to have their paid technical support for a cost of $109. I agreed and gave my credit card number. Three hours later my computer was back up and running.

Next day I checked my credit card charges online and saw that I had been charged for TWO items of support totalling $239.98. Sent an email telling them of quantity error. They responded that they wanted written documentation of the special price of $109 that I had been quoted. Of course there's no documentation because it was done over the telephone.

Then I tried to track down a phone number for their billing department, which was almost impossible. Finally decided to call their technical support line again and spoke to a guy who said he could do the refund if I upgraded to their $179 support plan. I said fine, just refund the $239. He said it would take 24-48 hours (of course the charge appeared immediately). It's now 72 hours later and I have a total of $419.97 in Avast charges on my card.

Got another email saying that if I wanted a refund of any kind I would have to provide written documentation. Again, everything was done over the phone so I have none.

Like many others here, I thought I would get more protection for online security so I purchased the Internet Security package at $19 and some change. I never received a license for the purchase. I called support and they showed me (I gave them access to my computer) where my computer had been corrupted and I needed the total care package. The presentation was supposed to show what was wrong with my computer but it was actually screen shots that they made me believe I was looking at my own computer but it was being generated by the "customer service rep." I took the bait and switched to the $179 package in which I let them in my computer to "clean it up.' I filed a request via work ticket to refund my original $19 dollars but I was informed that they could not locate any problem. They asked for many numbers as in customer number, item number, license number, original purchase number etc. of which I could not locate. Note: I kept every email message they sent me and still I was unable to get the "numbers" they wanted. They will never get access to my computer again and I will have to swallow a $220 dollar loss on the chin. Steer away from purchasing anything from Avast or you will be sorry.
