I installed Avast Free software yesterday. After the computer rebooted, I noticed that my program files looked different. When I clicked on them, it said the shortcuts were gone. I tried several different things to get it working. After some frustruation, I called their 24/7 phone number. I spoke to someone who had me go to the Windows Error reporting page, where he proceeded to tell me that because I had too many items on the page (errors), I would need to speak with one of their engineers (for a fee!!).
Later, I called a computer tech guy, and he told me I should be able to reload the programs, although as of this moment, I have not been able to reload all of them. Some of them were expensive programs!
Do not use this program-to save money. It is a giant RIP-OFF, which not only has cost me hours in trying to fix, but lots of money on programs which I will have to replace.
This company, their procedures, and technicians are a total scam! First you are greeted by a reprsentative (In my case, Eduardo from San Jose) who dials into your system and then says we can fix your problem, we've seen it many times before and our techs are familiar with this issue. You then agree to pay $179.99 for them for a service contract but the kicker is since your computer doesn't work, they sign their own terms of service agreement for you that you cannot read. In my case I was told that the repair would take under two hours. 5+ hours later the tech was still playing in my system. Forget to mention, I have a Mac. The next day, the computer was still broken and caught in the same loop and nothing was fixed. I waited online for an hour and 15 minutes for another tech and had to hang up. I called back later and an hour later was greeted by Beatriz Zuniga (another US rep) who went into my system only to find that the previous rep had somehow deleted all of my contacts 3000 of them and didn't back up anything. I emailed and called asking for a refund and the company refused because they spent time in my system and do not offer refunds according to their terms of service which I could not read and was signed for me by the rep who had control of my system. My system is still broke, they do not know what is going on and the viruse they said they deleted from my system is still there according to their own program scan. This company has techs that are not virus technicians and specialists as they claim. They are customer service reps who need to keep emailing back and forth to a tech to figure what's going on. BE WARE OF AVAST TOTAL SUPPORT. IT"S A SCAM THAT WILL END UP COSTING YOU TIME, RESOURCES, YOUR MONEY AND TONS OF FRUSTRATION.
I purchased their "premier" protection. Not only did it fail to protect my pc from a virus, it slowed my pc down so severely the repair shop had to remove it. Then avast refused to give me even a partial refund.

After 4 weeks, it got infected by a virus, which the avast scan failed to catch. I brought the pc to a repair shop, and they removed the avast program because it was slowing down my computer severely, making it take an exceedingly long time to do the repair. But they did get the malware cleaned off and I brought my pc home, with no protection on it. I didn't want to risk another avast program, but I had paid for 3 years of their premium protection and had only used one month of it, so I asked Avast for a refund of 2 of the 3 years. They refused, saying the 30 day warrant had expired. I even had my lawyer write to them, and they replied with a canned form letter, refusing a refund of any kind.
