Steer clear. Roaches, and abusive owners! The old owners had service with a smile, made your order actually “to order” and accommodated your every (reasonable) request....made a New Jersey native happy with their porkroll sandwich. So imagine when I went into Brooklyn Bagel recently for my “Jersey” sandwich and saw a roach run across the bagel bin. I tried to get the new owner’s attention quietly, but she ignored me. I tried to get her husband’s attention whispered “you might want to check the bagels… there’s something running across the bins.” But by the time he reacted, it was not where it was and he had to find it. I heard him stomp a few times and although thoroughly disgusted, I was glad I had not ordered a bagel. I still wasn’t prepared to give up my roots to my NJ hometown and still went back one more time.
Waiting in line for my turn, I saw only 3 very light bagels –just the way my family like them. The rest were dark. However, there were 3 peoplein front of me. I was so happy no one had ordered them and when it was my turn, I got the older female and told her I wanted those 3 bagels and since there were 3 people behind me, could she please take them out now. She took down my order and was annoyed that I wanted my Jerseys with only half a slice of cheese. I repeated to her again that people behind me were going to be ordering and could she take out those 3 light bagels. She mumbled something under her breath and walked away. When she came back again, I asked her a third time and she ignored me. I went over to llook, and of course… the bagels I wanted were already given to others who ordered after me. Finally, the husband came out and I said to him very nicely that what she did wasn’t nice. He kind of shrugged his shoulders and helped the next person.
It took her a while to come back out, but when she did, I said to her…that wasn’t nice. I asked you 3 times to take those bagels out for me. Instead of an apology or any type of remorse, I was met with an attitude that explained her husband’s meek demeanor. She turned into Cruella DeVil, yelling at me in front of customers. She was screaming at me how I must have had a bad morning and she will GLADLY give me my money back. I told her my morning wasn't bad until I spoke with her and all I wanted was courteous service. I asked if this was the way she did business and she got in my face and screamed "YES IT IS!" Obviously they don't need the business. I asked her what her name was and she wouldn’t answer at first – she just glared at me… I thought I heard the man call her Lisa and I asked her if it was Lisa. She turned to me with the angriest eyes and said condescendingly, long and drawn out “M E L I S S A E D W A RD S!” Everyone else on line could not believe it. Two people actually left. I never went back.
Well, now you’re WARNED about this rude, unprofessional, obnoxious, condescending MELISSA EDWARDS at the Brooklyn Bagels by JoJo's and Wellington 8 Movie theater. I didn’t ask this woman to do anything other than pull light baked bagels, take my money, and make it a bug-free environment. I wish the courteous old owners were still there and that I didn’t have to worry if my overly baked bagels had roaches running across them. I learned my lesson. That was the last time my family, my friends and I ever set foot in that place again. Be warned: the Jersey is just not worth it at Brooklyn Bagel. I’d sooner spend $1000 on a plane ticket to NJ to get my sandwich than to go back into the new Brooklyn Bagel in Wellington, Fl.
