Let me tell a story. An excited decision to build a custom home was made, a contractor was chosen based on past experience, and we were off on a journey that we thought would end with dreams coming true. What ensued was a nightmare. Monthly budget reports rarely happened, so the status was never known, and when the report did come through, the categories, definitions and amounts from previous reports never matched. So when it came to the end, we had little idea where the final dollar amount would be. Requests for better analysis were ignored until finally WE created our own report at which the GC said, this must have taken hours. Or 15 minutes for any competent individual.
On top of this haphazard approach to running and "managing" a project, we dealt with being yelled at, belittled for decisions, forced to make snap decisions without being given proper time to analyze. Then the GC would come back, in tears asking for another chance, he would do better. Wrong, it was the same song and dance of drama, yelling, and NO DOCUMENTATION! And when the GC came back and needed to adjust funding to twice monthly because of the financial burden, his request was accommodated in the hopes that he would make things right with his work and behavior. But nothing changed.
All of this would have been fine had the quality been where it was promised, but it was not. To date, we are still dealing with issues and the GC has asked us not to contact him any longer as he is done with this project. Does that sound like honesty, integrity, and putting quality first? Couldn't not be further from the truth. He does not stand behind his work and he will ditch you as soon as he possibly can. And then if you try to ask for help, he will insult you, he will call you names and his true colors show once again.
