Crime Stoppers Michigan Reviews

  • Nov 27, 2014

I solve crimes. Not once have I been able to collect a reward from Crimestoppers. Most of my reports have been filed with Crimestoppers Michigan but have also filed some with other states.

LACK OF ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES - CS DOESN'T PAY ITS BILLS (REWARDS)

In my view, the problem is that Crimestoppers lacks systems for following up with their duty to pay the reward. Instead placing the accounting burden on the reporter. (reporter being the indivicual reporting evidence of crime). The exisiting procedudre, if there is a procedure, is to tell the reporter to call back at say 11:00 a.m. on a certain date in the future to check on the status of the case. The system simply does not work - whoo has the time and wherewithall to meet these demands? This is not to mention the cost of your time in doing their accounting work for them.

CONTRADICTIONS FROM STAFF (poorly trained?)

I have tried to follow the above burdensome procedure but fiinally gave up on it as it never unfolded as represtented. Further, I was personally unable to fit their ridiculous demands of calling back at a precise time and date into my schedule. (It seems that the program is designed to over burden the reporter so that rewards are never paid).

When I have complained to staff I get all kinds of contradictory information - a a hypothetical example - newspaper states a $10,000.00 reward - call the police or report it too Crimestoppers. When I follow up - whether or not I missed the precise time and date to do their accounting work for them - I get more aggrivation from staff - in this instance I explained the foregoing newspaper article and was told that Crimestoppers does not pay more than $1,000.00 on any report. And that the reporter forfeits the larger reward if the report is made to crimestoppers rather than directly to the police. (It makes no sense given the purpose fo Crimestopppers is stated to provide anonymonty to the reporter).

Why is it that this entity can't get its act together and set up an accounts payable department and send a periodic status update to the reporter? Placing the burden on the reporter operates to discourage people from reporting crimes.

I have filed countless reports with crimestoppers and have never collected a reward. Thus, I personally avoid dealing with them. It feels to much like a SCAM. It is still unclear as to how I collect a reward and whether or not I actually forfeit any offered reward over $1,000.00 because I complied by reporting it to crimestoppers rather than directly to the police. The staff seems poorly trained and it is a waste of time to even call to inquire. Usually, they will fall back on the line that you must follow up by calliing a certain telephone number at a certain date and time in the future.
