Hopeful to share my current personal experience with a particular aweful slumlord and can attest to this as not only am at the moment a current resident but have clear documentation to back up my claim and shockingly the facts alone speak loudly.

Let me start by stating, I am a disabled single mother who's only income is disability and section 8 and my major disibility is epilepsy. I currently rent a single family home I have rented for 5+ years total, but was purchased by new owner a year and a half ago. I remain in good standing & still have contact with previous owners.
In June 2014 I began documented complaints with many documented unfullfilled promises in regard to large cracks and holes allowing rodants [oppossums] to enter my home not only into the walls and attic but also the common areas despite personal efforts they came in as they pleased.
The issue peeked October 31st when I clearly was able to identify a rodent had died inside the wall of my home. Eventually became not only 1 but many. I was later told by a professional it is rare for multiple to die but due to rat poison placed in my attic by a careless maintanance worker sent by management to save $ that had no knowledge in this area ended up making things worse.
Began reporting issue to maintnance and property management immediatly and often crying and pleading as smell was so unbareable and still now very present and myself and my daughter dont have much support within family or friends being not from here. So when the situation got dangerous due to a tick infestation i was unable to simply leave. Betweeen the smell, rodents [alive and dead], the flies [maggots], and bacteria, and ticks I was and am living in hell due to these people. The
The ticks and there bites resulted in 2 E.R. visits to treat infected bites that resulted in lyme disease and convulsions as effects attacked my already weakened nervous system due to my epilepsy when I hadn't had issues resulting in any hospital visits in years. This neglect has caused possibly lasting serious health issues as well as endangering my 13 yr old daughter.
After waiting far longer than I now know I should have I called and made official complaints November 21st to Tampa code enforcement and Tampa housing authorities. BOTH issued seperate multiple violations on initial inspections and re-inspection dates were issued for mid December to make sure violations were handled. Both re-inspections FAILED within the week before the recent holiday week.
Once I had clear documentation within violations I began withholding my full portion of rent for December and stated to them I was doing so to maintain the tick infestation due to clear health threatening nature and there neglect and refusal to act or help treat the infestation. Despite full documentation and receipts they of course didn't inform me and likely relied on my ignorance to the fact that the only way that I could legally withhold rent was with a specific hand delivered notice no matter how reasonable it may seem to do so or who is involved or documentation that exists.
So i unknowingly provided them the loophole to escape all the pain they inflicted on me with no kindness or care for what they put me through and still are currently. They were beyond pleased serving on Christmas Eav a 3 day eviction notice. When calling to ask why they are doing this to me they replied "regardless of issues you have to pay your rent and hope you have a merry christmas" I hung up never being rude but could only cry unable to have a decent holiday since even my tree was saturated in the rotten smell.
Legal advise has been to pay them what I simply do not have. Especially since now when I am evicted I will lose my section 8. Railroaded!
I have lost so much will likely continue to lose financially, physically and emotionally as a result of this situation. Can only share my story to fight against these landlords and property management companys who prey on people like myself who are disabled or otherwise without any or enough knowledge of rights, or lack there of, so as we can stop being violated and abused and without a voice or recourse to fight back. Be aware and know your local laws.
