Department Store Liquidations Reviews

  • Jan 7, 2015

Iam a seller on several ecommerce websites and I wanted to diversify my stock and try something different from what I normally order. So I did a search and found this company. I looked at their website and they had what I was looking for so I called them and talked to a sales rep. I asked every question a knowledgeable etailer would ask. Is this salvage? He said no, its some customer returns, overstock, and shelf pulls. I asked him what percentage was throw away. He said it was very low maybe 15%-25%. He told me the items were loaded into boxes and placed on pallets, making them stackable to buy even a larger 48 pallet truckload. (Im glad I went with the 24 pallets instead). I asked what type of reveiws did were they getting on these loads and he said very good reviews with no problems. I also asked what type of items were in these types of loads. I felt safe with the answers I received and ordered a 24 pallet Kohls load.

A week later the stock arrived. To my surprise they were in large boxes placed on wooden pallets, but 3/4 of the boxes were half full at best. Upon going through the stock, we had thrown out at least 4 of the pallets before we had even got to anything good. Wepe were supposed to receive household type items such as furniture, electronics, appliances, and garden stuff. What we got were several boxes filled with broken useless remote control trucks that took up much of the space in the boxes. The appliances that we received did not work. They were very used and broken. The ceramic bowls and dishes were mostly broken or contained one good bowl or plate and the rest junk. Broken glass was in several pallets from picture frames just being tossed into the boxes. Luckily I did not get cut going through these pallets. Any games or puzzles or other types of toys were missing items, or thrown into bags and returned by customers making them unsellable.

The only furniture items we received was a broken futon and several mismatched bar stools. If I had to estimate Id say 90% of this truckload was throw away. And that may be a low estimate. It took me, by myself, less than a week to go through all 24 pallets. If any resllers know when they work alone it should take much longer to go through that many pallets of stock.

I thought I was pretty smart and felt good about all of the questions that I asked. All of which were answered to my satifaction. But when the merchandise arrived, I realzed I was lied to just to make a sale. It was a very expensive lesson to learn. Even when you ask all the right questions, you can still be screwed. Seven grand is alot to lose.
