Direct Buy Reviews

  • Jul 9, 2015

Once again, Direct Buy has elected to disappoint members who paid a hefty price for memberships in their "buying clubs" I am just one of many to report on their decieving practices, but here goes.

As a residnet of Dayton, Ohio, I joined Direct Buy several years ago. While we have experienced savings along the way, 1st....our Dayton club was closed and now the Cincinnati club is closing. Translated, if one lives in Ohio, they no longer have a Direct Buy club to visit. Accordin to their corpoate communication, all transactions will now be conducted on-line, as 60% of the members ordered solely on-line. Let's see.....what about the other 40%....or those who prefer to see a sample of cabintes, or hardware or materials prior to ordering?

Unfortunately for those of us who have invested in Direct Buy, the writing is on the wall.....they not long for this world. Don't believe me....look at Forbes for the 4th worst franchise to invest in.

2012.When you walk in you see sales books of cheap name brand products and people to help you purchase the items, and boy do they make it look wonderful! You have an hour presentation were they snow you with a slide show (again of name brand items at a cost you can't believe) Then we got down to the cost and we were telling them that we would have to think about it, ok 5,900.00 would stop anyone. So we told them that we were going to go home and think about it and come back. They told us if we left that not only were we unable to take the low price they were offering that day but we were never going to be able to go to Direct Buy again! So the pressure was on! The assistant manager came over and stressed the importance of use not passing up such a great opportunity and then the manager who said because my husband was a disabled veteran would drop another 100.00 off the price. So stupid us we signed up.

On the way home we realized that there was a finance charge that would bring the total to over 6,200.00 we had to leave $500 there but we had been think that this was a mistake and on Monday we called to cancel but they said the three days was over we signed up Friday night (I guess Friday at 9 is considered a day) that started us on a three year campaign to try to cancel our contract. We would get from the manager "let me call the home office" or " I'll see what I can do and I'll get back to you". On November 2014 we received a letter telling us that the Greenville office will be closing later that month we rushed up there to find that it was closed, so closed that even the sign was gone.

They just invited us to a hotel to discuss the store closing ( it been six months) and how wonderful it will be to shop online, and while I was there they reminded me that my contract was up and I will be owing them 199.00 for the privilege of being a Direct Buy Member.

I have been with them for three years bought one thing which I found cheaper online and HAD to make them (there manufactures cost, yeah right) and it has cost me over $6,200.00

Stay away from Direct Buy, they will happily steal your money!

I received a letter with my address hand-printed, stating; "you're going to receive an Android Touchpad Tablet Computer from our gifting department, at no charge." The word "charge" was underlined twice. It further stated; "Call now, and we'll also include a Gift Card valued up to $100.00." I called the number and provided the code printed in the letter and the woman I spoke to also stated I was going to receive these items. She then proceeded to ask about 5 questions and then informed me that based on my answers, her computer was telling her I did not qualify for the give away!

Now, I did not ask for this, nor did I seek out this company. The letter did not say "you might get", "if you qualify", or "based on your answers", you could receive the following items. The letter stated I would receive them! I feel this is fraud and a complete rip-off. I can assure you that I will NEVER shop there and will make sure all my friends both in person and on facebook are aware of this incident.

Legitimate companies that fulfill their promises and aspire to make both established AND prospective customers happy can rely on word of mouth and reputation to keep them in business. I definitely feel that Direct Buy falls way below this standard.

Do not use this service. They are liars and misrepresent what they can do. I purchased an IDENTICAL kitchen and paid $5000 less than their best price! We aware of their shady practices!

Direct Buy is a complete waste unless you are building or equiping a new home or purchasing alot of items. even then, some shopping around will get you better prices. If you are foolish enough to pay full price for the rediculous membership, then I have a whole bunch of things to sell to you. If you just act like you are not interested, they will continue to drop the membership price. We were foolish enough to buy in at $1600. Still a waste of money. They are not at all helpful, and have few products that we are interested in. They will tell you they can get almost all products..... they have never been able to match the exact same product we were looking to purchase. They also set you up to purchase direct through manufacturers which you could do without them???? We have argued to try to get out of our membership, but they are not willing to let us out. Our fault for trusting. Any company that uses high pressure sales and makes you commit after a 1 hour high pressure sales pitch, is looking to hide something.

There are many groups trying to set up a class action lawsuit, that I would gladly join, but nobody has been succesful yet. If you want to buy something through them, call me!!! I will show you the price and you can buy it through my membership. The staff is useless and the product searching in the catalogs is mind numbing. Best Buy, HHGregg, etc are much better at giving you good deals.

I havent been ripped off yet but a person calling and saying I won a Tablet and 100.00 gift certificate - I thought it was ledgimate because I like to enter contests. Howver, this person kept insisting my salary and I told her that was private and I don't give out she stated well, o.k. we'll just keep it at ________ as indicated, I don't know where she got that information?

I am very angry about this because I am cancer Survivor and other illness of which the stress to find out these people are rip-off's and charge such a hugh amount to join - it is a long drive for me just to find this out! Why can't these people be persecuted for the harm they cause people?

I appreciate this site as it can show me to watch out for scams and problems such as the warrenties. If it is of any consolation to any of you - you prevented me from having to go through something like this!!!

What got my suspicion up is that if you win something, no STRINGS should be holding onto it like joining a club like this and when you win something it comes as a gift not as a "in Lieu" of possible purchase!!!

My husband and I sat through your sales presentation in August of 2012. It was high pressured and every answer was a positive answer, “you will just love the savings, but you can’t see how much until you become a member”. When we asked about financing we were told it was a self financing company and it was a four year program but the membership was three years. I asked what happed to the fourth year. Can we extend the membership to the fourth year if we are still paying for it? It answer was YES. So we decided to buy the membership.

Several things have not been truthful. 1) When we became members we were told we would be able to buy brands we were able to buy on the open market. Not true. I wanted to buy a Krieg. Not available. I wanted to buy a Serger sewing machine I was not able to find any available. (what we found was OLD mfgr's book and Very Limited choices ( which contradicts their sales pitch, as well we stated to agent before signing up what we only intended to use this for). 2) We went to use a discount at Sherwin Williams and a better one was offered through the store. 3) We have not bought one item through Direct Buy. 4 There also has not been many brands that were open on the open market.(Ie. major brands) 5) The biggest is this past year when the membership came up it was canceled not extended as promised.

My husband and I believe this has been a big SCAM. We have paid $2,500.36 for a product that we have not been able to use. We are very upset about this. There was no way we could find out about this before the cancelation deadline because we were not given access to the building to look up items or access to the internet. We feel we have been more than fair but the last promise that was broken has been it, the extended membership or the lack of it. We feel the above mentioned items are a breach of contract and want to break our contract with Direct Buy

I did not find out until today December 30th 2014 that the Albuquerque, NM Direct Buy closed 3 weeks ago. I live in Amarillo, and was the closest Direct Buy. Now I need to go to Ft. Worth because the Oklahoma City store closed about 15 months ago. I have been a member since 2011.

The store in NM was closed for 2 months for renovation. early this year. Then it closed 3 weeks ago without notice to me. No letter or post card like they had when it was closed for renovations.

Disappointed. Would like my money back for my membership.

Signed up for Direct Buy Membership - I send in a letter cancelling the membership - due to the fact the items are way overpriced. I would never buy anything from them I can go to other stores Loews, Home Depot for any household item I am searching for and find it way cheaper than Direct Buy. I paid $400.00 at the time, and yet I continue to receive calls to pay the membership. However I did cancel it. The furniture, is overpriced. Should i choose to do household renovations I can get a better quality of cabinets, tiles for less amount. I am able to see the materials as opposed to Direct Buy i choose it from a catalog. Very dissatisfied, and I will never purchase anything from them at all, and would not recommend them to any of my family, friends or colleagues.

This company has been around for a long time, they just decided to get into the travel thing. They offered us a couple free trips if we signed up for there travel thing. They stated you could get deals at resorts for $49.00 a week and so on. We paid almost $4000.00 for a 3 year membership. Well, the free cruise, after port charges and other costs, we could get a better deal on Travelocity then the free cruise? The $49.00 deals come up once a week and there is only a few, which seem to be gone in a matter of seconds? I told them I wanted my money back, the stated I had 3 days after signing the contract to cancel. Of course it took weeks to be able to log into the web site and find out the true information. I would warn anyone thinking of joining this travel club to give it a second thought.......it's a big ripoff.

So here's a business I recommend no one ever visits here in Scottsdale.

I got a call last night telling me that I had won a weeks paid vacation and a iPad for a draw I had entered the week before. We talked, and the customer service rep proceeds to tell me that I wasn't eligible because I wasn't 25 yet (I'm 23), but if I brought a significant other with me that was, it would be ok. He also mentioned that is there was any complication I would still get a $100 gift card to the store.

So I rearrange my day, have my S.O take time from work, and I drive an hour out of my way to get to the store, just so the manager there can keep me waiting for half an hour to tell me in a VERY un-sypathetic manner that there was a mistake and that I wasn't eligible for anything, not even the gift card, since I (the winner) was not 25. Then he walked off without making an effort to propose any kind of solution. I then asked the receptionist if there was any way I could give my winnings to be friend that is 25 and he just looked at me like I was an idiot, smirked and said no.

Thanks #DirectBuy for that astonishing customer service!
