East Coast Moving & Storage Reviews

BAIT & SWITCH!!! I sent an email to several moving companies with a full inventory of everything in my home that needed to be moved. “Sales” from East Coast Movers offered me the lowest quote and promised me the movers would be at my home at 9A moving day. I didn't ask for that, he offered. I told him I was on the 3rd floor. The first flight is free. He charged me $75 for stairs. Once I locked in a contract with “Sales”, he was impossible to get a hold of via either phone or email. I needed to pay via credit card and he said that was fine. It took a day for him to get approval and I had to call in because he never called as promised. He took my credit card info & after quoted me a higher amount than on the contract because of a 5% fee to use my CC which he never told me about. Another day went by for him to get an approval to waive the fee. I spoke to his supervisor who said she would help me from now on. I never heard from her again after she told me that the, "merchant went down," the day before and can no longer accept CC. Locked into a contract, I was forced to use my checking account for the deposit.

The day before the move the dispatcher called me to tell me the movers would be at my home around 1-3pm & was shocked when I told her I was told by “Sales” that it would be 9A. The next day the movers show up, look around, and almost immediately drop a bomb on me that the Bowflex on the quote was incorrect. I should have ben charged for Large, not Medium, and the difference was $900. I decided to leave my Bowflex in the condo and was forced to give it away because of such short notice. The move tells me to call customer service to work it out. Customer service says it was protocol to look up dimensions but since “Sales” did not, I would be charged more anyway. Even though I elected to leave the Bowflex, my price still went up over $500 and the mover didn't explain why. I just told me to sign. When I asked for an explanation he said..."stairs?" I showed him on the contract that I had already paid for that. He said I should have been charged more on the quote provided by “Sales”. The mover also said that he wished my husband was home because a man would have made this go faster! Because there was a discrepancy with the difference in price, the mover told me that admin would call me the following day to discuss discounts and not to worry about payment until then but did assure me that my items might even beat us to our new home. That call never came.

8 days after pick up, I called in to find out what was going on. “Sales” answered and I confronted him about his bait and switch sales tactic. He didn't apologize or explain. He said he would pass my message along to have a dispatcher call me about where my things are. Knowing at this point that communication is an issue for this company, I also emailed and left a voicemail. A day later Customer Service called and told me since I didn't pay 50% of the balance, my things have not been scheduled for delivery. Apparently what the driver told ECM is that I had to get some money together before payment when in fact I had been waiting for them to contact me about my move. Also, she explains that “Sales” had only quoted me for 1 flight of stairs, not two as I live on the 3rd floor. I explained I didn't think it is fair to change a binding quote because of a sales person's error, the same kind of error that cost me my Bowflex. She disagreed and charged me for the extra flight anyway.

If “Sales” had provided me with a fair and accurate quote, I would have been a better educated consumer and could have made a better choice in moving companies. It all started with a very inaccurate quote but has since spiraled into terrible customer service with little explanation and zero follow up. They also lied to the Better Business Bureau saying they completed the contract. It has been over 35 days and our things haven’t even left Florida when I had been quoted a delivery in 5-10. Now they are saying that they never come out our way and have no idea when we will get our things but we can pick them up (from CA to FL) and lose our deposit or wait indefintely.
