East Coast Moving And Storage Reviews

  • Jul 20, 2015

I know you're probably reading these reviews to decide if you should use East Coast for your move, and I'm here to warn you against it - avoid this company, at all costs. I know the price sounds really great, and they will promise to deliver your items on time, but as someone who has made the mistake of hiring this company, these are empty promises.

I needed a company for my daughter's move from the Chicago area to New York City. I originally hired a different company, and I then spoke with Jason, a senior relocation specialist, and he was very adamant that they would deliver on June 1st. He seemed so confident, and was able to convince me to switch to their company, which I would later learn was a huge mistake.

I booked them feeling confident that they were true to their word. I received a quote for $1766. Once they came for pick up on May 24th, I had to pay an additional $260 for 80 sq ft of space that I went over. I found this suspicious since I actually ended up shipping LESS items than in the original estimate, but it was too late to back out, so I paid and they were on the way.

I spoke again with Jason on May 27th to confirm the June 1st delivery, and he said the truck was on its way to New York. I later found out from the driver, that he didn't even leave the facilities in Illinois until May 29th, so Jason had previously lied to me.

Upon my arrival in New York on Monday, June 1st at 10:00 AM (which is when I was told the truck would arrive) I attempted to call Jason to let him know that I was at the drop-off location, awaiting the truck's arrival. He didn't answer, and I was put on hold for 20 minutes, so I finally hung up and tried calling back but couldn't get through to anyone. At this point, I began to panic, because my wife, daughter, her boyfriend and two cats were all relying on their items arriving on time, and it was especially important because of the cats. When I finally got through to someone, I was informed that the truck was still on its way to New York. This completely took me by surprise, as I was told it had left on May 27th.

At this point, I was told the truck MAY arrive on Tuesday, but the woman I spoke to "wasn't sure." She said to call back tomorrow. In a panic, as we had cats and an empty apartment, we called around to find the cheapest, pet-friendly area hotel we could find.

On Tuesday morning, I called to get an update, and I found out that the truck wouldn't be arriving for at least 1-2 more days. It took multiple phone calls, once again, to get any information from anyone. My wife and I came out specifically to help with the move, and we only had a few more nights to stay out there. At this point, we realized we had been taken advantage of, and we were all completely stressed out and frustrated by the unprofessionalism of this company.

Later that same day, I was able to get the truck driver's information. I spoke with John (the driver) and told him my situation and that we absolutely needed the items to be there on Wednesday. He said it would cost an extra $350 to get an expedited shuttle, and I said that I would pay the $350 if it meant the items would be delivered on Wednesday morning. The next morning when I called to confirm the arrival time, John informed me that they won't have time to do it, and that we'd have to continue waiting until they can get around to our delivery. We didn't end up receiving our items until noon on Friday, June 5th. This is almost a week after the original date we agreed on.

Upon arrival, John also ended up charging us an extra $150 for a step-fee, & he also charged us $350 for the expedited shuttle that we didn't even use.

Here's a breakdown of charges for my move:
