After being a customer for over 10 years, I have finally given up and will continue with the process of terminating their services and hopefully not go through the nightmare that other have experienced with j2 overbilling and effectively stealing money from their customers. Many, many issues with them but to name a few:

Horrendous customer service when it is time to deal with important matters where they are at fault. Insulting practices of looping customers around through different systems and re-starting from zero in cues to avoid dealing with the issue.

Terrible technical competence in their software and services with problem after problem ranging from functionality to compatibility. Might as well talk to a pigeon than anyone when trying to proactively obtain resolutions or fixes. Even after years of the same and obvious failure.

Once they take control of whatever the service is (eFax/eVoice numbers or related customer owned property), you might as well kiss it goodbye as they will never release it back to you if it is of any value to them.

BEFORE you do business with them, please do yourself a favor and search for j2's numerous class action lawsuits and hundreds of complaints herein and in reputable business rating agencies. That will tell you the story and hopefully will help you in deciding to never ever do business with any of j2 Global's companies, subsidiaries, and web of companies.

We purchased a local efax number years ago when we started our business. We pay $170 per year. We get charged yearly, in May of each year. I noticed that we are not using the service more than once per week and it didnt justify paying the $170 when there are free fax services out there.

I called to cancel my service on August 11. I found out that you CANNOT cancel. You just cannot.

I asked for a refund and they do not offer one. It is in the contract you sign that you will not get a refund. So I ask them to remove my credit card information so they don't auto bill me next year and they also said I could NOT remove that info! So I literally have to call early next May to cancel the service.

Also, I noticed I was being charged an additional $5 per month on top of the $170 per year. They tell me that is to SEND faxes. So you pay $170 a year for a number and then you pay on top of it to fax, all of which is NOT able to be cancelled at any time.

The only way to get out of this is to cancel my credit card which I am very close to doing.

How do businesses operate under these rules with these harsh cancellation policies?

This confirms the outrageous practice of taking credit cards for a trial period and assuming the customer wants to continue after a 30 day trial period.

Efax.com stuck to their terms and conditions when reaching the supervisor at customer service to cancel and ask for the last bill to be refunded. I was too slow to realize the charge had gone through. It's a practice that should be outlawed.
