Equity LifeStyle Properties Reviews

  • Jul 31, 2014

We signed up for a Thousand Trails camping zone membership this year in our area (Poconos, PA) and it has been one huge diasppointment to say the least. There are two campgrounds in our area: Timothy Lake North & South and Outdoorworld Scotrun.

Thousand Trails Timothy Lake has had multiple problems with their waterpark since it opened in May. It was closed for three weeks due to different problems: heater not working, leaks, etc. When we signed up they said it was an indoor water park. Once we got there we were told it's actually an outdoor waterpark b/c the dehumidification system on the roof is too expensive to fix, so now they just leave the giant diamond windows in the park open by taking out the glass, therfore there is no temperature and humidity control. Also we were never told that the two water slide are out of operation due to strucutural problems, which they don't plan on fixing and it has been this way for two years. Also, the place is totally dilapaadated and disgustingly dirty. The bathrooms and lockerrooms and beyond disgusting and when using the lazy river I got out and had slim all over my feet, which I couldn't get off until I went to the bathroom and scrubbed really really hard. This place is disgusting. I feel we were duped in the sales pitch.

Thousand Trails Outdoor World in Scotrun, PA has a decent pool area, however their campistes are the worst we have ever encountered in all our years rv camping. They competely cater to annual sites and advertise they have so many sites, yet when you get there, there are only a few sites available to choose from and the rest are for annual people. They also let people store old and falling down campers and rvs there and the sites that are available to stay in face a parking lot of dilapadated campers in storage, which we find extremely depressing.

When contacting Thousand Trails, they informed me I can't speak to anyone directly I can only email or write a letter. I wrote four emails which I was informed was sent to corporate (Which I found is Equity Lifestyles who owns Thousand Trails). It's been four months and I still haven't heard back from anyone. I have called countless times and still can not get anyone on the phone to address my issues. I also had a friend book a reservation as a guest under my membership and we had to cancel due to a family emergency. When I spoke with a rep from reservations she informed me we could both cancel with no charge. I did so, but friend had to call on her own. She called and they charged her $25. I have been calling for three days straight and can not get a supervisor to call me back and even had one rep hang up on me. This is the worst company I have ever encountered with the absoulte WORST customer service. They simply don't care and just want your money. BUYER BEWARE!!!
