Events And Adventures Reviews

  • Feb 14, 2015

I have been a member of Events and Adventures for 3 years and love all of the activities and the friends I've made. Its quite expensive but has been well worth it for me. That said, they stopped advertising for new members in the past year and cut back on events and cancelled events for the past 6 months because they were at risk of going out of business and we weren't told. They finally went out of business and a new company took over fresh. Many of us lost a lot of money that we had earned being an event host and money they had put out for events and trips that had been cancelled and it is not being honored with the new company. We haven't had events in months that we can use our credit for and were given no notice that we were losing them.

I JOINED THIS GROUP WITH THE IDEA THAT I WOULD MEET SINGLE PEOPLE IN MY AGE GROUP, AND GO TO EVENTS THAT I MIGHT NOT TRY ON MY OWN. I HEARD ABOUT THIS CLUB ON THE RADIO. THEY MADAE IT SOUND SO INVITING. JOIN EVENTS AND ADVENTURES, MEET NEW PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR INTERESTS. GO TO EVENTS YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE DONE BEFORE. ARE YOU TIRED OF STAYING AT HOME WITH NOTHING TO DO? CALL NOW.

I DECIDED TO CALL AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. MYSELF AND MY FRIEND WENT TO THE APPOINTMENT. UPON ARRIVAL THEY SPLIT US UP AND TOOK US INTO TWO DIFFERANT ROOMS. I SHOULD HAVE LEFT AT THAT POINT, BUT I DIDNT THINK NOTHING OF IT. THIS IS WHERE THE SALES PITCH STARTED. I WAS ASKED TO FILL OUT A QUESTIONAIRE. THE QUESTIONS WHERE ALONG THE LINES OF WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES DID I DO. HOW OFTEN DID I GO OUT. WHAT WHERE MY INTERESTS AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST HOW MUCH DID I MAKE A YEAR. THE INTERVIEWER THEN WENT OVER MY PAPER WORK. ASKING ME HOW MUCH I SPENT ON ENTERTAINMENT A WEEK. THEN SHE TOLD ME THE MEMBERSHIP WAS 2355$. I TOLD HER THAT WAS A LOT OF MONEY. SHE INFORMED ME IT INCLUDED EVERYTHING. SO IF I WAS PAYING 100$ A WEEK TO GO OUT AND EAT AND SUCH, I WOULD BE PAYING FOR EVERYTHING UP FRONT. SO TO GET MY MONEYS WORTH ALL I HAD TO DO WAS ATTEND AS MANY EVENTS AS POSSIBLE. THEN SHE ASKED ME IF IT MATTERED IF MY FRIEND WAS GOING TO SIGN UP. I STATED YES IT DID. I WAS THEN ALLOWED TO TALK TO MY FRIEND AND ASK HER WHAT SHE THOUGHT. WE TALKED ABOUT IT. IF EVERYTHING IS INCLUDED WE WOULD DO IT. WE WERE ALSO TOLD WE COULD CANCEL AT ANY TIME AND WE WOULD BE PRORATED THE AMOUNT OF THE MEMBERSHIP WE DID NOT USE. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THE HIGH PRICE OF MEMBERSHIP WAS TO INSURE ALL THE MEMBERS WERE PROFESSTIONAL PEOPLE AND THAT THE AGE DEMOGRAPHIC WOULD BE OLDER. I AM OVER 40. I TOLD HER I DID NOT WANT TO JOIN A GROUP WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE IN THEIR 20S, I DID NOT WANT TO BE THE OLDEST PERSON IN THE CROWD. SHE INFORMED ME THERE WERE MANY MEMBERS OVER 40 AND HARDLY ANY YOUNGER PEOPLE.

I WAS GIVEN AN EXAMPLE OF HOW THE CLUB WORKED. THERE WAS A TEXAN GAME WITH GREAT SEATS AND A VIP BUFFET INCLUDED. I WAS TOLD TO GO AND SIGN UP FOR THIS AS SOON AS I GOT HOME BECAUSE THERE WERE A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TICKETS. I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD BE INCLUDED IN MY MEMBERSHIP AND I WOULD PAY FOR NOTHING ELSE. THE ONLY THING I WOULD PAY FOR IS IF AN EQUIPMENT RENTAL OR OUT OF TOWN EXPENSES WERE NEEDED. MYSELF AND MY FRIEND WERE EXCITED AND SIGNED UP FOR THE ONE YEAR MEMBERSHIP OF 2355$ WITH 6 MONTHS THROW IN FOR SIGNING UP. I WAS TOLD THERE WERE ONLY 1 YEAR MEMBERSHIPS 2 YEAR AND 3 YEAR MEMBERSHIPS. I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT MONTHLY PAYMENTS ONLY ABOUT PAYING FOR EVERYTHING UP FRONT.

WE LEFT AND WENT HOM TO LOOK AT OUR EVENT CALENDER.LOW AND BEHOLD WE FIND THE TEXAN GAME EVENT. THERE IS A 250$ FEE ATTACHED TO IT. YES THIS IS A GOOD PRICE, BUT AFTER PAYING 2355$ I WAS TOLD I WOULD PAY FOR NOTHING. WE DECIDED TO GO TO AN EVENT THE NEXT WEEK. THE FOLLOWING WEEK WE ATTENDED OUT FIRST EVENT. IT WAS A PUBLIC PLACE WITH NO ADMITTANCE FEE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. NOTHING WAS INCLUDED WE HAD TO PAY FOR OUR DRINKS. WE LEFT DISAPPOINTED. WE DECIDED TO TRY ANOTHER EVENT. WE WENT TO DANCING AT THE BLACK SWAN, WHICH WAS ANOTHER FREE ENTRY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. I CALLED THE HOST TO ASK HER WHAT WAS INCLUDED, SHE TOLD ME NOTHING WAS. I ASKED HER WHAT DID E AND A PAY FOR? SHE REPLIED NOTHING, UNLESS IT STATES IN THE CALENDER. UPON LOOKING AT THE CALENDER I NOTICED E AND A PAYS FOR NOTHING. EVEN THE MEMBER MEETING HAD A FEE OF 5$. WE WENT TO THE BLACK SWAN, PRETTY MUCH EVERY ONE THERE WAS IN THE 20-30 RANGE. ONLY ONE OTHER MEMBER WAS OLDER.

I CALLED THE ACCOUNTING OFFICE, AS STATED IN THE HANDBOOK, TO ASK ABOUT A REFUND. I WAS THEN INFORMED OF THE 72 HR CANCELATION. I WAS TOLD TO WRITE A LETTER AND WHERE TO MAIL IT. I HAVE DONE SO. I HAVE ALSO SEND NUMEROUS EMAILS TO THE CORPORATE OFFICE OF THE OWNER ASKING ABOUT A REFUND AND TELLING HIM HOW I SIGNED UP UNDER FALSE PRETENSES. AFTER ALL OF THIS I STILL HAVE NO REFUND AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS COMPANY HAS A POLICY OF NO REFUNDS. I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD GIVE ME A 50$ EVENT CREDIT TO MAKE ME HAPPY. WHAT IS 50$ AFTER PAYING 2355.

I HAVE ALSO FOUND OUT FROM OTHER MEMBERS THAT THE PRICE OF MEMBERSHIP VARIES FROM PERSON TO PERSON. THEY ALSO OFFER 6 MONTN AND 9 MONTH MEMBERSHIPS, SOMETHING I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT. OTHER MEMBERS ARE PAYING 75$ A MONTH WITH NOTHING DOWN AND GIVEN 3 YEARS FOR THE PRICE OF 1. ONE MEMBER IS PAYING 75$ A MONTH FOR 6 MONTHS, MEANWHILE DUE TO THE FACT THEY LOOKED AT HOW MUCH I MAKE, I WAS TOLD 2355 AND NOT GIVEN A 6 MONTH OR 9 MONTH OPTION. OF COURSE THE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAPPY WITH THIS MEMBERSHIP, I WOULD BE ALSO IF I WAS PAYING 75$ A MONTH FOR ONE YEAR MEMBERSHIP. I WOULDNT MIND THE EXTRA FEES THEN. BUT AFTER PAYING 2355$ I DONT WANT TO PAY ANY MORE MONEY. THE MORE MEMBERS I TALK TO THE WORSE IT GETS. EVERYBODY IS PAYING SOMETHING DIFFERANT. THE YOUNGER MEMBERS, 20-30S WERE GIVEN THE CHEAPER OPTIONS WITH MONTHLY PAYMENTS. THESE ARE THE MEMBERS THAT WERE ALSO GIVEN THE 6 MONTH AND 9 MONTH OPTIONS. I CALLED THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND WAS TOLD THE ONLY OPTIONS WERE 1 YEAR,2 YEAR, OR 3 YEAR MEMBERSHIPS.

I HAVE ASKED REPEATEDLY FOR A REFUND STARTING TWO WEEKS AFTER I SIGNED UP. WHAT KIND OF COMPANY WOULD MAKE IT A POLICY NOT TO GIVE A REFUND. I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT ALL THE BAD REVIEWS, OF THIS COMPANY, THAT I AM FINDING OUT ABOUT NOW. I WOULD HAVE NEVER SIGNED UP. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD THE TRUTH THAT THIS COMPANY IS AN EXPENSIVE EVENT PLANNER I WOULD HAVE WALKED AWAY.

I DO NOT WANT ANYONE ELSE TO BE LIED TO ABOUT HOW THIS COMPANY WORKS. APPARENTLY THIS COMPANY HAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF ALOT OF TRUSTING PEOPLE. I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT MY 2355$ PAYS FOR OTHER THAN THE COMPANYS EXPENSIVE RENT HOUSE IN THE HEIGHTS AND PAYING FOR THE HOSTS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO LEAD THE EVENTS.

I signed up with the Events and Adventure office in King of Prussia, PA. The pitch sounded legit enough and the company seemed like they offered alot of fun events.

That was until..... I found out from a rep from the corporate office in Ft Lauderdale FL that E&A does in fact offer a 3 day cancellation option if you dont feel the group is right for you. When I finally got ahold of the rep from my home office, she told me that was not true.

Hmmmm....funny enough I was finally able to get a hold of her after the 3 day option had lapsed. She gave me some story about them moving office space and not being able to answer the phone when I let her know I had been trying to call since the day after I signed up, giving two weekdays in between getting in touch with them today. But magically, oh, this was the day of all days that were "moving" to a different office space.

She also mentioned that they were not able to get on their computers becuase of the move, however the day before she was posting on their Facebook page.

I was told there were plenty of people my age who attend these events (I am in my early 30's). Judging from pictures I've seen via the Facebook group, everyone appears to be in their 40's and 50's.

They say they cater to very well to do people to ensure member quality. The red flag should have gone up when they approved my application when I am far from being well to do.

In short, the sales rep conveniently failed to mention the 3 day option to cancel and then conveniently wasn't able until AFTER that lapsed. I am out 1,500 because of their lies.

Events and Adventures is a big load of scam. These clowns put you in a high pressure sail situation, and have you sign a contract to be apart of their social club (which is mostly old people). The sails lady was very deceptive making it sound like I could cancel if I didn't like it.

They gave me 3 DAYS to cancel to avoid having to pay thousands if I didn't like it. I owe them plenty of money right now despite how I sent them a letter of cancelation like it says to do on the stupid contract to the HQ in Bellvue and they can't even find it at the main office after I sent and confirmed it was recieved through certified freakin mail!

Now I get frequent phone calls from these guys and I tell them the same thing everytime I'm NOT PAYING. I doubt they'll turn me over to collections for some chump change for what I owe. But I've heard that they aren't above it. Three days to cancel to avoid owing tons of $$. How are you supposed to know if you like a social club or not in 3 days!! Some of us have jobs!! JEEZ!

If they call you. Hang up

Wow, guess I should have read the reviews before signing up. So my story is basically the same. I went in, the woman in the office asked a million questions to make sure I'm "the right type of person" for this club, and that "over 50% of people are turned away for not being a good fit". Sales crap. So anyways, after going on and on about how great the club is and how it's perfect for me, and yada yada, the prices come out. a year for $2500 PLUS $30 a month, or 2 years for $3500 & $30 a month. Then suddenly there's a special, that's only available today (like most other testimonies on here). $500 off your signup for a year or $1000 off your signup for 2 years. I said for a year, there's still no way I'm paying 2000 up front. "Oh well we can do payments". I"m still not paying $200 a month for this. "How about we add 6 months free" (also like all the testimonials). So in the end I'm paying 140 a month for 18 months. OK, I can deal. So I put 200 down, (after she insisted I put down 500 repeatedly), and we were done.

Next day, I get fired from my job. I go straight into the office and ask for a refund stating I can't afford this anymore. I was told there are no refunds. I said I can't do this. They told me I signed the contract, but don't worry, I'll meet someone. It'll be worth it. BTW, come to the member meeting tonight, didn't you get my message?.

At this point I should point out that when you sign up, it takes 3 days to get into the system and be able to log on and sign up for events. So 24 hours later I was NOT eligible to go to events yet, but was invited anyway. Now that I see other testimonials, I realize that the cancellation policy is 3 days, and having not gone to any events (or so it seems, she breezed through that part of the contract so stupid me wouldn't read it and I didn't). Anyways, I was within my 3 days, told no to the refund, and tricked into showing up to a member house party that night, to void my cancellation policy. She also told me that I could have my payments postponed a month to help in case I didn't find work right away. So my first payments wouldn't come out until 2 months later. Well 2 WEEKS later I'm getting calls from the debiting company asking to verify my info for a withdrawal in 5 days. I said no. They called back the next day. I said no. I called E&A HQ in Washington, they said they had to verity that I was authorized postponement. They never got back to me. I called back the next day, and they said it was verified and I wouldn't pay. Then the local office calls me with paperwork to sign to amend my contract stating the first payment is in June. I signed it and sent it back. Guess what my bank messaged me with the next day? A withdrawal. After all that, they still took their money.

They did end up voiding the transaction and never took the money. But after all this I'm done. The events aren't that great. Restaurant and bar choices are greatly lacking. Some of the events are fun, but most of the people that go are the same 30 or 40 people over and over. The majority of the group is 30 or 40 something men (being a 28 year old male myself, that leaves a lot to be desired). I have met a couple of good guys that I'd be down to hang out with. But after all these issues, their shady business practices, and hearing from the event hosts how the "management" doesn't listen to recommendations and does what they want, I'm going in to demand a refund this week, and if they refuse, I'm calling a lawyer. Unless you're wealthy enough to afford an extra 140 a month, middle aged and REALLY bored and need someplace to go, stay away.
