Express Vanline Reviews

This company Express VanLines, took an $800 deposit to move my mother’s home and provided a bogus moving estimaate. We had several discussions regarding inventory and provided a detailed list. The quote was for $2481 with a deposit. They arrived a day late, knowing that the house sold and we needed to be out that weekend. We went through the original inventory list and marked several items off and did not add anything in addition to the original list. He then went through the house and their driver kept stating that they underestimated and they "legally" could not touch the items unless they left for two hours, had us "think" about the move and then they would come back and we would discuss a price. They would not tell us what the legalities were but just kept stating that they legally could not touch the items. We asked several time to give us the final number and provide a comparison of the list and let us know where it was over the estimate, he would not. However, each time we asked him to clarify, we were met with they had to leave and come back because of the "legalities". When I told him I needed to call someone to get help to understand what he was saying about the “legalities” he abruptly picked up his items and left stating that if we were going to call someone, he was not going to move the items. We pleaded with him to stay and work this out, he stated “I’m out, you’ll get your money” back but I am not moving you. I called the customer service rep (Josh) and had to leave a message. Josh called back later and apologized and stated that his driver was out of line and he should have explained the process. He told me that he would tell him to come back. I told him I was not comfortable with the mover and requested is they could send someone else. I was told no, but Josh stated they would come back for $6800.

We were left in a desperate state and they knew it as we had expressed several times that we needed to be out of the house that afternoon. However, taking a chance to have them come back was not a comfort level that was viable for us and if they were willing to do this, then would they request more money at the delivery. We were not willing to take that chance. He then told me that my mom would lose the deposit, even after I told him the driver stated that we would because he was leaving.

We had only 4 hours left in the day to move out, and Uhaul came to the rescue with assistance. I called in friends from over two hours away and we got my moms house packed into the Uhaul van with 30 minutes to spare. This was an experience you only hear about on TV that happens to other people. NOT an honest company. No calls have been returned after repeated attempts and we still do not have the $800 deposit back for my mom. They should be ashamed of their business practices and lack ethical responsibility.

This moving company is an extortionist scam. They gave me a ""guaranteed not to exceed"" price, which was a reasonable but not cheap price to move from AZ to UT. I signed a contract but it was not what was described in the phone conversation. The contract was a set-up. When the driver arrived on moving day he immediately demanded an additional $500 because he claimed that a tractor trailer could not come up the road to my house so he had to rent a 26' truck and charge me for fuel as well, which was supposedly ""waived"" in the contract. He then charged me overpriced fees for additional packing. Then, after loading 1370 cubic feet in the truck, he tries to charge me additional $990 for additional space when my contract stated I was paying for 1000 cubic feet. Okay, this goes on and on about how bad this was. The whole ""cubic feet"" thing is part of the rip off because they knew they under sold me space and then they jack it up when loading. I did not not know it was going to be a ""cubic feet"" job.. Do not ever do that! By the end of the day they were trying to charge me over $5000 to move one 26' truck from AZ to UT. I had also contracted them to move furniture from a storage unit that was next to the house at the destination. They were to load that furniture after unloading the truck and unload the furniture in to the house. This is a 10x15' unit and I paid for this but they did not do it because they wanted the more money. This is after they had charged me $4400 to move that one truck. My quoted price for the entire move, the one truck from AZ to UT and the local storage unit in UT was $3400. What I got was the one truck moved and delivered for $4400 and they did not do the local storage unit even though I paid for that. So now I am stuck paying another month for the storage unit and stuck finding a way to come up with the money to get help unloading and delivery of that stuff in to the house. If I had not fought them as much as I did on the moving day, they would have charged me around $5400! It was extortion as I had to move out on this day and had no other options. I have moved about 9 times in the past 8 years and never had anything like this happen. I know what it cost to move, and with good movers because I've done it so many times before. This was a total rip off scam. I feel like I was held up at gunpoint. . The only thing I can say good about it was that the labor they contracted did a good a job and I feel bad that I could not tip them due to the extortion of Express Vanline. I looked them up for reviews and now realize I was looking at reviews for ""Express Moving Vanlines"" who has great reviews. Kicking myself for that!
