Sold me a phone that did not work. supposedly refurbished. Could not make calls from home using wifi or 3/4G. After multiple software and reboots still did not work properly.

Tried for 3 mos finally gave up. After 4 wks or so retried with free service but did pay $2.50 for email phone still did not work. Huge disappointment.

I am on Social Security and that wasted money hurt.

ATTENTION****** PLEASE READ. To whomever is considering buying this product, beware! This is a scam!

I am a young single mother living on a budget. In this day in time having internet is a must so I came across Freedom Pop and thought that they might be an affordable alternative to getting internet in my home. I order the Casual 2GB package @ $17.00 a month. Upon arrival I was very excited to use my device, hooked it up, watched a movie the device worked perfect then went to bed. The next day I went onto the website to see how much data I had used and to my surprise I had used the entire data plan! I thought that was a little strange but I went ahead and upgraded to biggest plan they offer 10GB. The next time the device was used my nephew came over and played his playstation online. The next day I started getting email after email "Freedom Pop has added $10 to your account" over and over again. I thought that was strange since I had already upgraded to the biggest package. When I looked at my bank statement Freedom Pop had charged me $131.59 in overage fee's over a 6 day period, $70 in one day! And continued charging my account until I had insufficient funds. So let me reiterate people... I paid $100 for the actual device, $60 for the biggest plan, and now on top of that $130... FOR USING THE DEVICE 2 TIMES! I called the company and asked what the reasoning was for all these charges. They said that much data had been used because I "had a good connection". The best they could do was refund me $40. Needless to say I will never recommend this product to anyone. You've been warned!

I heard about Freedompop internet service and it sounded like a great deal. I even saw they offerred refurbished devices for really cheap. I went ahead and picked aa plan and purchased the refurbished device on my credit card. The site does state it takes a little longer sometimes to recieve equipment due to the process and that the device comes activated for easy startup. Its been almost 2 months and still no equipment and Im mo longer able to view through tracking where my equipment is as though it was cancelled or nonexistent order. I am also still getting chsrged for internet service which I'll be cancelling today. This is such a rip off!

I paid for a SIII from Freedompop, they claim they sent it out and I received it however, I still do not have a phone. They got paid from my account though $99.99 and everytime I call about the issue they claim they have to escalate the issue and will call me back. Weeks later, still the same issue. Claiming to send out a phone FedEx but using the Smart Ship method which turns it over to the USPS is a bad idea when a person lives in an apartment building. The box gets droped at your door and anyone can pick it up. Did that happen to me? I don't know but what I do know is I still don't have a phone and I'm out $99.99 with no refund and they are not offering me one nor are they offering to send me a phone through FedEx signature required. I want satisfaction and I'm not getting that at this point.

4/3/15 purchased wireless internet modem. It stopped working 5/16/15. I spent 2 hours on phone describing the problem over and over to people who didn't understand. Was finally promised RMA to exchange defective device for replacement. After 6 days of no response had to call again, which took nearly 1 hour. Finally got email with RMA number on 5/24/15, but there was no mention of reimbursement for my expense of shipping although their device is defective. On top of that I received a separate email that my account was cancelled! I never requested this - I only asked that the unused time/data be reimbursed, which I'm STILL waiting for. This company is made up of crooks and if I could afford a different way to access the internet from home I'd use it.

I ordered a freedom pop phone with free phone and internet service. I added the $4.99 protection plan. I contacted the company who administers the plan and they had no record of my coverage yet I was charged the first month. I contacted freedom pop and received an email saying contact the protection plan to fix. I went back and forth. I cancelled the plan. I was charged for the $4.99 for about 3-4 months. I disputed all the charges on my credit card since freedom pop and the protection plan played the back and forth game.

Freedom pop suspended my free service account and the IMEI is blocked from being able to start a new account. I called freedom pop again and was yelled at and said how dare it dispute. I said how dare you charge me for soemthing no one has any record of. Then take away my service becasue I disputed because no one would help from either comapnies to figure out the issue.

I was promised it would be corrected and was told told it would take forever. It was never resolved. Very rude customer service and charges for a protection plan that never was active. I lost my free plan and the IMEI on the phone is blocked making a $200 phone completely useless. Thanks Freedom Pop.

They charged my credit card as if they had the product available to ship. After a week goes by, and I notice that my product has not been shipped, I call them and they state that it may take up to an additional 5-7 weeks for shipment of my order due to the fact that the specific phone ordered was on "back order status". Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't this ILLEGAL?! Not to mention, UNETHICAL! Somehow I am made to believe that they knew good and well that they didn't have the ordered phone in stock, yet they were aggressively promoting and selling it (as one of their "promotional products").

RELEVANT LAW: 15 U.S.C. §57a and 5 U.S.C. §552. These sections outline how Direct-To-Consumer sellers must communicate information about back-orders to affected customers.

Rule 435 of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) deals with Back Orders, and it states that when a merchant sells goods to the public, the merchant must have a “reasonable basis” to believe that the goods sold can be shipped within 30 calendar days of the date the order was submitted.

Plus, to add insult to injury, they charged and sent us a product that we din't even order. So basically we get the prduct that we didn't order (yet paid for), before we get the item that we actually ordered. Finally, just a side note: FreedomPop telephone agents state that they can take orders 7 days a week, but are only able to cancel orders during the week.

I bought the freedompop 4g router for my ipod touch and, to activate it, put in my credit card information.

Their policy was to allow 500mb of data free. They would charge only after going over that amount. For the first month, I did use it and downloaded. I doubt the amount was over 500 mb but they charged me. The next month I did not use it at all but they still charged me.

Its not a free service.

Freedompop Be very carefull if your thinking of getting any type of service from Freedompop .. be sure and talk to someone "YOU KNOW" has tried it (not a review or forum).. as they are very apt at playing and spend as much time stacking the reviews and forums as they do touting their free services .. I got cought up and tried and am still trying their service to no avail .. I started trying to find my around the computer using the old dos system in the early 60's and I've never ran into anything to compare with this experience .. they seem be having a great time while raking in your money and I strongly suggest using a more tempory credit card (you'll probably have to shop around as they have learned not to take Green Dot ect) and you will probably end up having as much trouble trying to cancel your account as you did getting it to work. Even after you think you have it canceled there may be "xtra charges" that could show up on your good card. I did get off one call with the first number before they changed it and told me I would have to contact 888 743 8107 to straighten out my account .. spent over 23 min's trying before I got disconnected the first time spent 47 min's on the second call before I gave up .. so it looks like I may be a while before I am able to try anything ... the data card says connected but no browser ect is working.

At 2 pm I ordered 2 cell phones and the internet device. They said they had to be put on separate email addresses. So I did. I called to cancel the internet device and they said they only had an order for 1 phone and 1 device. My emails later showed different.

I saw that the email showed the items ordered and they were correct. However on the one for the internet device which i wanted to cancel i wrote a reply to please cancel that order for that device. They cancelled everything.

I have been on the phone from 4 pm to now 8:30pm with about a 3 to 5 minute break trying to get the order taken care of. I called again at 8pm and have been on hold for about 30 mins. I wish I had ordered online.

They have been playing pass the buck and switching me to everyone but God. It has been a nightmare trying to just get the order right. someone there cancelled everything. It has been just awful. I hope should I ever get the darn thing that the customer service won't really be this bad.

Beginning to feel that this might be a hint that if they suck from the start they might suck throughout the time. Until nex time I am still on hold it is now 8:36pm. I will do what i have been doing all day. calling in again hoping to get someone.

I just wanted to share my experience just with the order procees.

On February 2,2015 I order afreedompop hotspot overdrive device on the internet and paid for it by debit card. According to the information on the application that it would take from three to seven days to receive the device. After about two weeks,no package ,so i called them and inquired about the package.Customer sevice rep.said they had put the order in and sen to the warehouse and it takes awhile and that i should receive it within a week.

So a week and half went by so i deceided to give customer service a call again. The rep said there still waiting for the warehouse to send it. Then iget a email saying my device would arrived on march fourth, but it came on the sixth due to bad weather.Finnally it came and i plug the device up to get charged overnight. The next morning i got out the instructings and than try to turn the device on and no response. So for about a week i tried to contact freedompop customer service buy phone and on the computer, even sent a e-mail and no answer.

Right now i'm still waiting for the information.Really allwant to do isend the device back and get my refund.

Freedompop has refused to correct errors with their rollover data package. I had about 5 gig of stored data and one day it just vanished. I have reached out to them by phone, email, and forum with no success. I even got hung up on by the last rep I attempted to talk to. This has been frustrating. I am ready to give up on them in a few days. I would advise anyone to think twice before doing business with this outfit.

I have been on freedom pop for about 6 months, I got a Samsung Victory but was not happy with this phone so in January (the fifth month) I purchased a ZTE Force as I had good luck with this brand in the past. When I received the phone the screen was cracked due to poor packing on Freedompop's part I tried contacting them upon receiept and was put on hold by sales 3 different times for over 30 minutes before giving up, yesterday I was on hold from 9am to 12 noon with tecnical "support" and finally realized they simply were not going to answer. I rarely use my phone (maybe 30 minutes a month) so it seemed their free service was for me but I never thought the cell service was so intermittant the cracked screen phone only works less than half the time and freedompop doesn't answer their phone or emails any of the time, I feel stuck as well as ripped off! Don't fall for their con like I did!

Beware of this company!!!

After paying for a device I was never able to get service so I TRIED and TRIED to contact the company. They continued to charge me for service even though I could not ever use it and didnt want to incur any more charges. I tried to resolve the issue; sending SEVERAL e-mails and calling many times (NEVER could get a person by the way).

Sure, you can buy something fom them, but after that I was NEVER abe to get a response to my e-mails or get a call answered. They sure charged my debit card though! They seem to have no problem with that!!!

  • Jan 10, 2015

Freedom pop charged me 100 dollars for a device and 23.00 a month for an internet service in August 2014.

After using it for a week i already had a limit and had to pay 10 dollars per additional gigabite, so i canceled the service after 1 week by calling them August 25th.

Ever since they have continued charging my account for 23 dollars, i emailed, never got a response, I called 3 times to cancel the service and put if up on social media and they keep charging me now for 7 months. Since they claim to never have received my cancelation i wasn't allowed to send the modem back so i lost that 100 dollars also.

the company is a total scam.

This is a 3rd Party ripoff add-on company from Sprint. These companies top layers are cashing in 20 million and laughing all the way to the bank (or Hell to tell the truth). They think they are smarter than everyone else. Throttling started in the Hotel industry, they want to try to convince everyone about their great plans. It is sad that they can not offer a good product to everyone and be grateful for the steady repeat business and satisfied customers. Stay Away!!!

I subscribed to freedompop to avoid high priced isp's.

Little did I know how they would nickle and dime me to double their initial rate.

The speed and amount of data they give you is wholly inadequate.

They bate you the 5Gb. of data which they know the average user will run out of quickly.

That's why you will need to add data. This will cost you another $10, the same as if you chose the 10Gb. level to start off with.

You will also need more speed. If you like a speed that is between dialup and DSL, slower than any DSL, you'll will be fine.

I wanted and expected a speed that is at least as fast as the slowest DSL speed, but didn't get it.

I asked if I could get a faster speed. The answer was yes I could for another four dollars.

I am now at $14 more than I started with or expected.

I also asked what the four dollar vip charge was for. No one I talked with seemed to know or could tell me what this charge was for so I had it removed.

When you include the $128 for the wifi hub, you're getting very expensive internet service.

There is nothing FREE with freedompop.

Their customer service is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I am a current member of Freedom Pop and it does not work, If you like people getting mad at you because they try to call over and over and your phone will never ring, It will never register as a missed call and if they leave a voice mail you will probably never get it.

I am not kidding, also sometimes it will not let you make calls for no reason. I was in Hollywood, and Venice beach trying to call my friends and the call just won't go through( it said you are not authorized to make calls to this # please contact your service provider to update your service. If anyone on freedom pop needs a payphone there is one on Hollywood and Wilton in behind the gas station next to some crack apartment building) I am on the unlimited talk text and 500mg data. and also it may take a day or to for you to get a text if you get it at all.

Finding what appeared a good buy on an internet hot spot from Freedompop I purchased it believing their claim to be nationwide 4g. Once the devise was received I followed the instructions to set it up. In order to do so you must enter a credit card for future billing. The devise would not work out of the box following the instructions. So I called their service number only to find out they do not have it available in my area or in the areas I normally travel. I returned the device and was credited for the purchase. However I recently found they have continued to bill my credit card for the internet service they know I am not using. And to make it more of a rip off they refuse to refund any of the money they have felt they were intitled to steal from me.

I would warn everyone to avoid a company who does business this way. They told me I didn't cancel the service I signed up for. How they could assume a device they took back was still being used by me? I just can't understand. What horrible customer service. I only see it as a crime they would continue to bill for a returned product.

There are plenty of other companies out there who provide this type of product and buyer beware if you choose these people.

  • Oct 20, 2014

I spent totally 3 hours on several phone calls to get authorization to return my defect (DOA) unit to Freedom Pop. In the first place the unit arrived 10 days later than promised. I was given untrue and incorrect information on several phone calls. After finally getting authorization to return the unit, it was a challenge to receive a refund. And in the end I did not get a full refund.

I wish someone had told me beforehand to avoid this company.

Really, a free phone with 500MB of data? I knew it was too good to be true.

I got the phone simply to use the data with my Escort radar detector. I already have a reliable phone.

I did not expect much. You get what you pay for. This company, however, is ridiculous.

I carefully selected all choices to remain free, without monthly charges. I ordered a phone from a $79 link. I was charged $129. I sent an e-mail to FP which went unanswered. I called customer service, and perma-hold yielded no help. I hung up after 20 minutes. I followed the link again, and the sale went through for $79. I called my cc company, and was credited the $129. The e-mail was answered 8 days later, saying I could cancel an order. The first order never showed as fulfilled, so I did not bother.

The second order went to "processing" pretty quickly. The phone arrived after 18 days, though the usage month began the day I placed the order. I could receive no incoming calls for the first few days, but that seems to have sorted itself out. When the month expired, I was charged a $9.99 "monthly fee." Called the CC company again, disputed the charge and cancelled the card to prevent further charges / abuse / fraud / whatever you choose to call it.

It looks as if I was given a months free trial of "Premier" service, which is $9.99 after the first month. I was charged after having the phone 12 days. I called customer support. 16 minutes on hold, a guy answers, puts me on hold for a few minutes. Said he is looking into it. I thought I am put back on hold, but am continuously prompted to do a customer service survey. After 5 minutes, I answer the survey questions, and am promptly disconnected. 22 minute phone call, no results. I sent an e-mail, to which I expect no response.

If you ever want support, or a question answered, this is not the company for you. I have now called the CC company to get my $79 back. I'll stick with my Verizon phone. I never thought anyone's customer support could make Verizon shine.

I ordered the phone & cell phone service & receive a defective phone.I called and return the phone & never given my money back on the phone 7 services paid for that I never could use since phone never work. This place will never return your call or email so I contacted my bank to look into this.

Well this company proved to be a total waste of time and agrivation. I ordered 2 HTC phones and 1 proton hub mid June through Groupon. Once they arrived, the call quality was crap and the data speeds were worse than DSL.

I returned all devices to Groupon and received the creadit as expected. HOWEVER the issue is that Groupon doesn't relay the information that they were returned. YOU NEED to CALL THEM (expect a wait time of approx. an hour) and cancel your account before the next billing period.

If you are even 1 day past, they will only issue a credit for the most current billing period. They state that the service has been rendered (even thought I had no devices) and they will not transfer to a supervisor or manager.

At the end of the day... It was a 24.95 + 1 1/2 hour lesson abouut them BEWARE

  • Sep 4, 2014

FreedomPop is advertised as, and emphasizes their service as free. The "premier after a month", was not evident when i signed up, and ONLY 500MB FREE service. NOTHING REGARDING TRIAL or 1 MONTH - showed on the dashboard page during or after I signed up. If it was there, it is very illegible and unnoticeable. I never sign up for "1 month then" or "trial" services as I KNOW that catch. The ad is deceptive and sign up process was NOT clear regarding this aspect. Even the cancel service process is deceptive. All other plan additions or options are large, bold, and colorful; while the cancel option is barely legible with a considerably smaller font crammed in the lower right corner. Clearly difficult to find to deactivate. I only signed up for 500 MB FREE SERVICE. not only that I have NOT been able to use the device or service EVER, since I received the device. Therefore there has been NO DATA USAGE, and yet i am being charged $24.99 on my AMEX. The monitor usage shows 0 data used, the device has NEVER worked/ connected as the code on the label from freedompop, does not let me logon!!! It is incorrect! The advertising and sign up process is deceptive and the product is worthless if it doesn't connect.. All a waste of time and money. I am again requesting a full refund for the two (2) months I was charged for no service and inability to connect.

  • Sep 4, 2014

FreedomPop designed its user interface such that if you downgrade your 4G service to FREE, it is not immediately apparent that you will continue to pay $7.49 per month for other services. I thought I had turned off the billing becuase all that readily showed on their site was my FREE data service.

It took more than an hour on hold to get to speak to anyone and then they refused to admit that the site was poorly built and designed to make people mistakenly continue to pay for services they thought they had turned off.

I have since filed a dispute with my platinum card company.

Be forewarned to be careful about cancelling FreedomPop service. Make sure you really are turning it off.

If you must speak with them, just make sure you have unlimited minutes because you will be on hold for more than an hour.

On July 24, 2014, I purchased a Samsung Victory 4G LTE cellphone from freedom and promptly paid it with my mastercard. I received the cellphone about a week later and found out that it was not working. The cellphone was not updated with current android applications and it was also locked to Virgin Mobile.

I had a hard time connecting with a live person (evry now then a dropped call after waiting) but after several days of trying I finally was able to speak to a live person and they transferred me to their technical support. After about half an hour with their technical support they finally issued me an RMA # (return authorization).

I sent the defective Samsung cellphone based on their instructions and to protect myself did a trace on the tracking number provided with the USPS receipt and verified that they recieved the package.

I tried to follow up by sending e-mails to "Jay" who claims that he is my personal contact for Freedompop support team. Jay sent me an e-mail last August 11, 2014 that it will take several weeks for my refund to be processed. I inquired thru e-mail again last week and again I received an e-mail from Jay on August 26, 2014 that my refund will take several weeks again and to wait patiently for my refund.

I can forward all the e-mails that I received and sent to Freedompop as proof and youcan also see that all my e-mails done in a professional and courteous manner. Please help me get my refund from Freedompop of if this is a scam, please advise on how I can help with exposing these people.

  • Aug 22, 2014

This company has not told you about the fact that there sevice doesn't work right on all of there phone. the phone that you buy not going to have good service and you will catch hell getting your money back at least 2 week wait with no phone. if you want a better phone you have to cancel and start all over wait tell they get the phone back plus a 2week after that and still they want you to pay upfront for replacement while you wait for your money 2 to 3 weeks.now you have to spend more money while you still wait for your phone to be sent to you and wait for your refund and you can't get anyone online or on phone with out jumping threw hoops.

I am more than disappointed with my internet serice provider Freedom Pop, Owner Stephan Stokols. Over 3 weeks ago, after paying for my next months service, the service had not worked. At which time I contacted their tech support. For the next 3 weeks I tried many times to get this problem resolved, losing 13 hours of work ($175) during their work hours. I had spoke to a dozen people there over that time to get my internet service working. I spent countless hours just waiting for someone to even pick up the phone. Finally, I had a software tech come in and was charged $70 to get this up and running.

After 2.5 weeks I was told I needed to re-install the Sprint Smart View, of which I had gone to the library to download on a cd with instructions, still it had not worked after 3 tries. Then I was told by a Freedom Tech that my account had been suspended, they asked me to do some other things that had not worked. A final reply was made by a Developing Tech, that they gave me an additional 700MB. Well I am too lose the 4 GB's in a few days that I paid for nearly a month ago, which is no compensation for the 3+ weeks I went with use and still don't get to use my 4 GB's before I need to pay again, this is a RIPOFF!!!

I use to internet to counsel those with Sexual Abuse and PTSD as a volunteer. Helping these people is important to them and for me to serve them. I am prepared on principal to notify the BBB about their practices there. It's unfair to abuse their customers. I after this next month will terminate my service and intend to write others in Los Angeles about this theft, like the Mayor and other communities over the internet to make potential customers to stay clear of Freedom Pop.

I tried to activate my Samsung Galaxy S3 the other day. For some reason I was unable to activate, after waiting for fourth minutes to get a hold of an outsourced call center I was placed on hold several times as my issue kept getting shuffled from person to person. after a call that ended up lasting 2 hours I was told I would need to wait up to 48 hours to get help and that I needed to be ready to except the call at anytime during that period. that was several days ago. I have called two more times with the same response and similar wait times and emailed them regarding my issue with no response. they gladly excepted my money for activation but since then have been slow to do anything more. Also customer service was anything but polite. I would suggest staying away from freedompop.com

First, looking for a classaction suit against freedompop

Received faulty equipment May 24,2014. Tec service could not get the equipment working.

tec said he would that the wifi checked and would eather help reconect or send new equipment in 72 hrs. never happenrd.

i e-mailed them several times, to get nothing.

i phoned them for hours at a time only to get nothing or disconected.

they refused to give me a return authorization

i filed a protest at the bank mastercard.................and sending the trash to the co. address above directly to Stephen Stokols ceo

Looks like FP's main line, (310) 982-7390, is also VoIP with Level 3 Communications. I'm only mentioning VoIP because of my doubts with regards to FreedomPop's SEC address.

  • Jun 30, 2014

FreedomPop will make charges for products and services, then never deliver anything.

FreedomPop made a charge to my credit card for a mobile hot spot device and two months of premium service, without having delivered anything. This would have gone on forever if not for my careful review of my order with this so called company. This company will take your money without delivering the product and service.

So I would not recommend this product and service, or anything this company has to offer; they will take advantage of every opportunity to make charges for products and services without your permission. Talk about a ripoff... and outright fraud and deception. This company needs to be reported.

The freedompop internet company is scam company.

Advertisement said first 30days $1.99 But Freedompop withdrew $97.98 at May 21.

At Jun 06 Friday I called Freedompop and Fedex.

Then I found out about my device is not active.

At Jun 06 same time I canceled .

But next day Jun 07 Freedompop made my case active.

I refuse 100% receipts of Freedompop's device.

And I demand the refund of 100% $97.98.

I bought an advertised ""Free internet"" device for FreedomPop from Yugster.com. The beginning of a nightmare.

This device ONLY works if you are in a 4G coverage area, if you check coverage it tells you that you do not have 4G but can work at 3G speeds. It will not work with this device. I got that info from Freedompop support after waiting on hold for 20 minutes, leaving my number and waiting 45 minutes for them to call back. They suggested I return my device to Yugster and ""upgrade"" to a device that handles 3G.

The internet access is not free. After going through, registering and providing a credit card, you see the actual monthly fees. Free has nothing to do with FreedomPop. You cannot cancel online, you have to call.

A nightmare. First call to cancel, I went through the phone menu and was placed on hold for 20 minutes until I abruptly got a fast busy.

Second call to cancel, EXACTLY the same results. When you call to cancel, they put you on hold and then hang up.

Third call, I used the menu to go to sales instead of cancellations. Finally got a person on the line (another twenty minutes of holding, even for sales). I explained what happened and that I wanted to cancel. Another ten minutes on hold for a transfer (I am not exagerating here, the wait times were awful)

So now I have Jen from cancellations on the line and I explain that I have no coverage and want my account cancelled. SHE ARGUES with me until I actually have to shout over her to cancel the account.

No Free Internet, I should have known better. Absolutely miserable customer service, and the company seems more than a little shady. HIGH PRESSURE, bait and switch tactics, and no actual product. I sure hope they don't dare charge my credit card.

I do believe this is the most caps I have ever used in a post.

Stay away from Freedompop.com, there is no free lunch.
