Greased Lightning Web Works Reviews

  • Aug 18, 2014

We found Johnny Robeson/Greased Lightning on-line while looking for a person who specializes in Zen-Cart. We currently have a beautiful and very unique and colorful website that is just a little outdated and needed some behind the scenes updating and a few quick changes to be made. After speaking with Johnny he explained to us all the reason that we should build a completely new website. Two of the main reasons being that he said our current site was not tablet/cell phone friendly and it needs a programmer to make changes. Johnny said that once the new site was completed we could easily make changes to the site ourselves and that it would be user friendly for customers on their tablets and cell phones. We figured this would be a fairly easy transition since we already had all the images/text/shopping cart info on our current site. We agreed to go forward with the project which would cost a total of $3000, $1000 down payment followed by another $1000 through the project and the final $1000 at completion. So we proceeded to send Johnny the down payment of $1000 to get started followed by another $1000 two weeks after. We had another small website project for Johnny to do that we needed completely quickly so that we could start taking sales using Paypal on this other site. Johnny was able to get the shopping cart set up and working fairly quickly but we soon realized that there were a few major problems after the launch. The shopping cart was charging everyone in the entire world one flat rate for shipping $3.00!! We had 18 International orders come in that should have been charged between $24.50 to $28.50 an order during the time it took Johnny to make his corrections. Not only that but the shopping cart was not charging state tax. Once he did get the state tax charging it printed out on the customers receipt "tas" instead of tax. Sloppy website work! Since he was having all these issues with getting the shopping cart to work properly we did not consider the job completed and did not mail Johnny a check until it was properly done. During this time Johnny threatened to take down our site since he believed that we were never going to pay him. He did take down the test site for my new site during this time which he was in the processing of making. By this time we had already paid Johnny $2000 for our other site which we had gotten nothing from and had no access to. Seemed to us that he shouldn't have been worried about getting the $399.00 for putting my shopping cart up on the other site. When we confronted him about taking down the test site he quickly put it back up and told me "I don't know what you are talking about... test site is up and running fine-". He later told us over the phone that his son told him to just take down the site and he decided not too, like he did us a favor.... So we quickly changed all our passwords and logins on both sites in fear that he would tamper with not only the site he made changes to but my current site that he had access to only for getting images and shopping cart info for the new site he was building. After that it was all down hill. We soon realized that he was not the web designer we had thought he was. He could not use any of our current site's images on the new site and he was not familiar with putting videos on a site, the two major aspects of what we needed in a new website. The site that he put together for us looked like a Kindergarten could have built it and it was extremely uninviting and difficult to navigate. All the images were a skewed, text was not uniform and images were floating in an organized way on the home page. Not to mention he had not done anything on building the shopping cart. Johnny told us that the visual problems were due to the fact that he needed images that were all a specific size for each specific location and the images from my site were not the sizes he needed... this should have been information provided to us when we first spoke, not 3 months into the project! He also then told us that he was using a template to create the new site and that each image location could not be changed... again information that should have been discussed from day one. The finally straw for us was after sending him several different formats of videos to put on the site he was not able to get a video to play through or look correct. So we paid $2000 for a site that we do not have access to, cannot use and would never put our name on. $2000 and nothing in return. We asked for a refund- and he said refused- not even partial refund. Then we found out that he's done similar things to other customers, through the Rip Off Report- and wanted to warn others.
