My husband and I went to a seminar in which we were promised free gifts for attending. This was back in 2006 so excuse me for my lack of memory. We move quite frequently due to my husband's job so I have very limited paperwork on this. Two months after going to the seminar (in which we NEVER received our promised free perks), we needed airfare and a hotel stay. We were promised by Great Escapes that for being members to their club, we would be guaranteed the best deal around. Not only did I find cheaper airfare on our own through the airline companies, we found the same to be true for hotel stays. We came into another situation where we were planning a family vacation shortly after that and again we found a cheaper package on our own. After discussing this with my husband we decided if this company was not going to benefit us and we still have not received any of their services, (keep in mind not even the free incentives for going to their initial seminar), we needed to cancel our membership. I then called and spoke with an individual by the name of Sandy. She agreed that they could not fulfill their end of the obligation and would let us out of our contract. That was that....or so I thought.
Fast forward to now 7 years later, we have a negative hit on one of our credit reports from these sharks. I called Great Escapes and not only would they not talk with me, they said I needed to talk to the collection company. After calling the collection company they said that we needed a large lump sum to get out of this contract. Not only that but they refused to do any type of payment plan. And to make matters even worse the collection company said that they have added 40% interest over the last 7 years. I was livid so I called Great Escapes myself who of course had no record of a conversation with ""Sandy"" who said that she was cancelling our contract. Again for further assistance I was told I needed to call the collection agency. I tried calling back several times and left voicemails with no call backs. So my question is...how can we be liable for now over $10,000 + to a company who never provided us any services. We are meeting with a Lawyer tomorrow afternoon. I want this all behind us!!!!
