Hanover Terrace Reviews

  • Sep 13, 2014

I brought my father to the Hanover Terrace to undergo rehab after he fell and had a partial hip replacement surgery. His surgery was done at the VA and although they no longer contact with the Hanover Terrace, because the terrible quality of care there, the other nearby facilities did not have any open beds.

Within three days of being at the Hanover Terrace he developed pressure sores on his feet. This greatly impaired his ability to participate in PT. Unfortunately I let them coerce me into more time there after the 20 days Medicare will fully pay for had elapsed because his lack of progress.

During this time I had not seen his feet unbandaged and I was told they were healing nicely. I brought my father to a follow up X-ray/ortho appointment at the VA. When I mentioned the sores on his feet they took him into podiatry right away. The wounds were almost to the bone and necrotic. The surgeon, podiatrist, and several other doctors told me in no uncertain terms these wounds were more serious than his hip fracture had been. They gave me a course of treatment that needed to be followed and sent me back to the Hanover Terrace with medical equipment for them to utilize. Also they clearly stated there was to be no pressure on his heels so they could heal.

When I spoke with the nurse practitioner at the Hanover Terrace, Barbara, she said they didn't know what they were talking about. She intended to follow her treatment plan which was the opposite of what all these other professionals had said to do. I asked her to call and talk to them but she flatly refused to do so. I have never met a medical professional who was completely unwilling to collaborate or at least consider a second opinion.

When I went to take my father out of there to another facility I found him in bed at 10am with his heel wounds unwrapped, not elevated from the bed to relieve the pressure, and bleeding. The social worker, Christina Beauregard, came in and told me the VNA would not work with me if I left with him. Then Sherry from the billing office came in and demanded full payment right then and there. I told them to send me a bill and I would deal with the the VNA myself. I left with my father.

I brought him directly to a hospital about 5 miles away which had a good reputation and excellent recommendations about their Rehabilitation Unit. He was admitted to the emergency department immediately. The diagnoses on my father's wounds is he will need surgery. This will set him back 4-6 weeks in the time frame for returning home. Also the Hanover Terrace ironically reported ME on charges of elder abuse and neglect.
