Hughesnet Reviews

Hello. My whole experience with a HughesNet has been HORRIBLE almost right from the start. One of their contractors sold us a good game of talk on the phone when my husband and I were deciding on using their Internet services for our home. What suckers we were!! We found out that HughesNet likes to hide information from their customers as they try to sell their products. Their sales contractors do not explain terms and conditions and extra charges to their customers when making their initial sales. We were charged $100 extra for our equipment over the price we were quoted. When I demanded to know why, one of their reps have me some bogus explanation. HughesNet automatic debits your card without telling you up front they're doing this in the beginning. I caught them on this particular issue with my debit card. I told them NO and that I NEVER AUTHORIZED THIS. I wanted paper billing. They will not refund you your money a timely manner if you cancel. I was told I has to wait 45 days for a refund!!! I was furious! There is nothing in their legal section saying what time frame you can expect a refund. It always states if their equipment is returned within 45 days, you can get a refund. Nothing SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT IT TAKES 45 ACTUAL DAYS TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK. Absolutely unacceptable to me. Also, I'm only getting half the money I put into HughesNet. I only had their services for approximately 10 to 12 days! I paid everything up front and ON TIME. But unfortunately, I get only half. HughesNet SUCKS. RUN RUN RUN PEOPLE. DO NOT USE HUGHESNET EVER!!!! Please do your research up front with internet service providers. It will save you so much hassle and you won't be like me, writing a RIPOFF REPORT.

Hughesnet oversold their satellite capacity in the Pacific Northwest, but promised me great service. When the internet, and along with it, my telephone, were down more than they were up, I was constantly on my cell phone trying to get my service back. When I finally called and asked them to cancel my ""service"", I was put on hold for so long, I finally hung up. It took 4 tries over a period of 3 months before I was finally connected to someone who was able to cancel the service. Prior to the cancellation, when I tried to cancel, the operator on the line attempted to sell me upgrades, assuring me that with them, my service would work better. I fell for it the first time, but the service was not better. After that, I just wanted to cancel. I was also told that my telephone issue was my telephone company's (Vonage) fault and I should call them. Vonage told me that Hughesnet was the worst internet service a Vonage customer could have. Even though I purchased my Hughesnet equipment, when I asked what I sould do with it, I was told that I had to pay a huge cancellation fee, and I ""could throw my equipment in the garbage"". Later, when I was finally sent a copy of my contract, it clearly stated that if I had sent back the equipment within a certain time period, I could have received a $200 refund. By the time I received the copy of the contract, it was too late to return it.

In all fairness to Hughes, they did reduce the termination fee, but I feel that there should have been no early cancellation fee, because I literally had no internet service from Hughesnet. I had to call in my computer technician for a computer problem and he was the one who told me that Hughesnet had oversold their satellite capacity in our area. He would never recommend Hughes. I know that I am not the only person who has had trouble with Hughesnet, as I have read other complaints on the internet. I am wondering if a class action suit against them is in order.

Congratulations!

You guys are the WORST SERVICE I've ever had. I don't even know where to begin with you guys, seriously. I guess we can start with your first mistake, oh yeah week 1. Your so called professionals came into my apt. complex and installed my dish and within 2 days I lost service completely..... I think I called like 2 or 3 times w/30 minutes of 'Troubleshooting' with one of your Techies to only confirm what I already knew, your service sucks..... This is after I wasn't told of a 2 yr. contract initially (devious losers). I think it was a wk or 2 later you guys showed up to and it worked for like a month, month and a half tops.....

Followed by the internet going down again for about another month, followed up with multiple calls and horrible and more idiotic 30 min phone calls including 'Troubleshooting' with a Tech. Then a miracle took place and I was able to get an appt. and internet again with one of your techies (probably the only one worth anything).

Then I moved in February in the same building on the same floor and lost connection again. At this point I was burnt out on wasting my time with you guys after I called your techies a couple of times and they never called me back on the window they set (surprise, surprise). So I think I went w/out internet for about another 1 1/2 to 2 months because I was just better off using a neighbors wi-fi.

So you guys gave me a free month of service. Big woop. 3 months down, headache after headache. Who seriously has that kind of time to spend with your amateur techies on the phone??? All you guys gave me was a refund on the monthly fee you were ripping me off on to begin with.

So after about 6 months with about 2-3 months of actual service, I decided to pull the plug on your MICKEY MOUSE CORPORATION and now you're trying to tell me I owe you $300 to cancel a contract that I was LIED INTO??? (I was told the contract was 12 months, and my bill would be $60 every month, you guys tried charging me $90 the first month with some Bull shit upgrade! NICE.

Almost Forgot..... Upon cancelling my contract with you guys you informed me that I needed to take an antenna off the dish that your guy installed along with the rest of the equipment after I specifically told you I'd moved out and to contact the landlord to get access to the roof. Your guy put in on, he takes it off. End of story.

Well, I can tell you one thing. You will never see a penny from me regarding that $300 cancellation fee. I can't believe you're even allowed to operate in this country.... You're standards wouldn't hold up even in Congo. And if you send me to collections I hope you guys have a lot of damage control..... I'm going to constantly slam you guys online for the crooks you are and nobody else gets taken like I have. Oh and by the way, it will never stop.

All the worst,
