One of the worst necessary evils that small businesses have to deal with besides all the taxes is who to use for a credit/debit card processor. Over a year ago I think I met the absolute worst one out there. In one year I had already gone through three processors. I got so angry at one rip off company that they called me and said they were tearing up our contract. Of course they had already been contacted by the Attorney General regarding our case. Needless to say I really didn't even want another Processor salesman to set foot in my business. This guy comes in and is so sympathetic about our situation telling me how low the rates were and how we didn't have to worry about a contract and we use gift cards and he'd get me a terrific rate on them in fact his daughter Tanna would even design a gift card for us. We owned our own processing machine but of course because of all the compliance issues he would get Northern Leasing to lease us a new machine for only $39 a month and they would keep the machine up to date and we would never have to spend money to stay compliant.
His Daughter brought us the machine it took several tries and a whole day to get it somewhat running making all our customers upset. I signed some papers that I thought were for the leasing of the machine for 48 months never even thinking about any contract with them because he already assured me there was no contract. It took many phone calls and waiting till we got a variety of gift cards to pick from - we got tired of waiting and we were losing sales because we were out of cards. We picked the best of the worst just to get them done. After many many calls we were finally promised that our cards would be sent overnite. Along with a $1000 debit from my bank account. The gift card company sent us a copy of the order when I was irrate about the bill. Someone had forged my signature for 1000 gift cards and the $200-300 bill for express shipping. We tried for days to get a hold of Jim Banks left messages etc. got absolutely nowhere. We ended up using the cards and taking the hit -how do you get money back from people like that.
I started seeing this $19.95 charge (per Month) on my statement for some mis-match thing after many calls someone finally told me that it was because my tax ID didn't match- ok Mr Banks filled out my number from the document hanging on my wall and he forget a 1!!! So Im being charged this every month for something he did. I've tried so many times to get it corrected and it's still wrong and I'm still paying!
There's another $19.95 charge on my statements (oh by the way I didn't even find out that there weren't going to mail statements anymore till I called around asking where they were - oh you have to get them online) for non compliance!!!Hey, isn't that why I had to have a new machine???!!!Once again getting charged never told or warned no communication at all.
Finally after trying to read these very confusing statements (I had a woman who has been in that business for over 15 years and she had a terrible time trying to figure it out) I figured out that his great deal was costing me at least twice as much as he had told me. I want out of this mess-we called to figure out about the gift cards because we picked out new ones and wanted to stay with that gift card company then we were told that everything was together we couldn't have the gift cards without Pink Processing. We finally got to the gift card company who told us we can keep them without the Processing Company. Now we are being told by Jim Banks that we signed a contract for 4 years and if we want out it will cost us $450. I told him I thought we didn't have a contract he told me that I had done all this on the phone and that I had met with some Tony who I never heard of - the only people that ever came to my shop was Jim one time and Tanna one time!!!!He started yelling at me and saying I was a liar and all sorts of cursing and then hung up on me!!The only way we got to speak to him in the first place is because we used another cell phone and as he told me the only reason he answered the phone was because it was lunch time and he was the only one there!!!
Why do we have people out there like him? Small Businesses have a hard enough time making it why can't there be a way to keep people with no morals or conscience away? He's done this to so many others-why can't he be stopped? We all work hard just to have him take our money for doing nothing!!!
