I purchased a BMW in June 2013. Five days later the transmission light came on and stranded me on the side of the road. Our sales associate, Dennis, acted shocked that this had happened and assured us that he would talk to ownership and ""make it right"". The dealership owner reminded us that we had purchased a used car. Over the next few months, I was stranded several times when coolant leaked out, the steering malfunctioned, the O ring seal for the alternator bracket leaked, the transmission seal had to be replaced and a valve seal leaked which cause the car to burn oil and foul the spark plugs. In all, the repair bills were $6,900 over a 7 month period. My husband and I met with the owner of Luxury Cars of Charleston, Dick Laine, who suggested that we ""put lipstick on the pig"" and sell the car as is. He would then take the proceeds and swap us even into another car.

We took the car to a BMW repair shop and found that the transmission had not been fixed and would cost $1,600 if they could re-build or $3,000 to replace. We took the car to a second BMW repair shop and were given the same diagnostic and quotes within $50 of the first shop. After telling the mechanic about all of the issues with the car, he suggested we cut our losses and sell it.

When we went to trade the car, we found out it had been painted on the drivers door and front quarter panel, indicating to the appraiser that the car had most likely been in an accident, which greatly diminished our trade in value.
