Marine Motorworks Reviews

We hired this company to do a standard engine inspection on a pair of 1050 MAN engines. We are a boat dealer that does around $15M a year in sales so this complaint is being filed out of principal. We are very aware of what the cost should be on a job like this and at most it should cost around $2500. The boat was on land so they did not even sea trial it. Just 2-3 weeks prior we had the identical job completed by a more reputable MAN dealer who had to travel 80+ miles to the boat and spent far more time on it and it was $1800.

This company had us sign a credit card authorization form so we are not able to dispute the charges with Wells Fargo. They did not make us sign any estimate and we figured that they would just be honest and charge us for time and material. Material on a job like this would be an oil sampling kit, maybe some rags, etc. Minor inexpensive stuff.

A couple of days later I find that they tried to charge me $10,000 for this job. $5850 went through. The reason it was so high was becuase they went ahead and decided it was a good idea to replace injectors, lines, hoses, do a valve job, etc. I assume they were slow on work since they were able to jump right on the job, and clearly the standard engine inspection I asked for wasn't enough $$$ for them. I asked them if this was some kind of a mistake or a joke and they said it wasn't "it was time for all of this work to be done on the engines"....I did not even own this boat yet! It was a boat we were inspecting to take in on wholesale. The owner, who also did not authorize this work, would not pay for it so they stuck us with the bill.

I spoke to 3 other MAN dealers who had nothing but terrible things to say about this dealer. They are corrupt and are a terrible representation of MAN. If you ever need them to do work for you first I would try Bass River Diesel since they are more reputable (we tried to get them but they were backed up 4-5 weeks) and worst case scenario if you have to use these scumbags I would make sure you get everything in writing and possibily make sure they notarize it as well. Make sure you get in writing that if they decide they want to do more work than what you asked for that they need your authorization first.

We have reported them to BBB and we have another MAN dealer reaching out to their rep to report what they did to us. We are not the first complaint.

If they would like to reach out to us to resolve this matter I will have this report removed but we have tried several times to cordially work this out with them and they told us to go to the owner of the boat to get him to help us pay the bill.....
