MarineMax, Inc. Reviews

I took my boat to Marine max as a trade in for a boat Marine max owned. I droped it off and the next morning I recieved a call from the service manager. He said your startboard engine will not start and that my starter was bad and it would take 5 hours labor to replace with new starter. I told him that did not make sense because I am not a mechanic and I replaced that starter 7 months earlier and it took me two hours He said he needed to talk to his mechanic and would call back. He called back and said he thought the mechanic was talking about the port engine and that now it would take 1.5 hours. I told the service manager to go ahead and replace the starter but I wanted the old starter so I could take it back because it was under warranty. He said he would do that. When they were done with my boat they had a report which I have that stated a lot of problems with my boat. The sales manager that first put this deal together and set everything up never has contacted me about the deal or any of my complaints, I was told that my boat needed to engines and the sales person acyually told me I should donate my boat to a charity. I got the boat back and hired a local boat mechanic that did compression checks on all my engine cyclenders and went over everything that was on marine max report. There were some items that were correct on the report that we fixed a total of $1500,00 in labor and parts. I have put another 34 hours on boat no problems it runs great, I did not here from Marine max until May 16th with a bill that said I owed them $476,00 for starter and labor. I again wrote them a letter and said I agree I shouls pay this bill but not until I get my starter back so I could take it back under warranty and get a new onw for back up. The service manager called and asked me if I was going to pay the bill. I asked if he had my starter. He said he talked to hiis mechanic and the mechanic told him he put the old starter on my seat on my boat. When I picked the boat up I asked for my starter the mechanic that took me to my boat did not know anything about the starter and he would have service manager call me. When I never heard from any one I thought they were trying to make things right and were just going to let it go. Which I told the service manager he said there was no way to handle this I had to pay because his mechanic told him he put it in the boat. I asked the service manager if he thought that maybe some one had stole the starter he said that was very possible but was not his responsability. The boat set for two days before I picked it up. I had called and talked to service manager and asked if the boat was ok there for two days he said yes no problem it was in a very safe place. I have talked to Marine Max main office but no one will talk to you except a very nice lady that gave me the address to the main office so I could write a complaint she even made the statement that the owner was very involved and on top of everything that goes on and would make sure this was taken care of I have not heard from a person. So I am now writing this so maybe it will save some one from being treated as I have been
