Midas Reviews

I took my car into Midas on a Saturday morning in early June as the previous evening my power steering in my 96 Geo Prizm had stopped working. I had them look at my power steering and had them check them check the motor mounts as I had been noticing some vibration when idling and suspected the mounts were worn out. They did an inspection and found the power steering rack and power steering high pressure hose needed to be replaced. All the motor mounts were pretty worn but one was completely shot. I had them work up two different quotes for me. One quote was to fix the power steering and replace the completely shot mount. The other quote was to fix the power steering and replace all the mounts. The first quote they gave me was almost $1500. the second was $2100. I only paid $1000 for the car so I told them I needed to get a second opnion. I took my car to a local independent repair shop and had everything repaired for $800 total. $2100 vs $800. Midas was charging almost double the price for the power steering rack and marking up the price of the engine mounts by 5 times the retail cost. Don't ever take your car to Midas.

I took my car to Midas on 4/24/2015. I asked to have my brakes repaired. I was severely overcharged for the work that was done, and I am not 100% sure that everything actually really needed replacement. I was charged $1390.91. My invoice lists items that were worn and needed replacement, but it also lists many items that said customer request, I just wanted the bad parts replaced, instead, they replaced every part in my system, both front and rear. I went to autozone's website to price every part that they used, and I could have bought all the parts for $388 (not including fluid), which was $20 a gallon. Midas charged me $852.07 in parts alone, that is $500 more that what I could have bought them for, and I know that they even get the parts cheaper since they are a dealer. It is very clear that I paid way too much for parts, labor I am not going to dispute. I contacted the corporate office as well as the store and they were of no help, in fact they said that I was undercharged. With the $500 overcharge on parts plus the $409.82 for labor, they profited over $900 on me. I went to AAA auto repair to see how their price compared to midas and they quoted me $900 for the same job that Midas charged me $1390.91 for, the difference basically amounts to the $500 excessive parts charge from Midas. Took my CRV for an inspection at my nearest Honda dealership. Learned I needed the outer tie rod ends done, among a couple of other things. So I shopped around for cheaper prices and came across Midas in Hoover, AL. Took my 2000 CRV to have the radiator and outer tie rod ends replaced/repaired and an alignment done on January 29, 2015. A week ago or so I noticed something was off with the ride of my vehicle. It would pull and had a slipping feel when turning and braking and just driving in general. It worsened and I felt I shouldn’t be driving it. I started thinking I needed to take it back to Midas because something wasn’t right with the steering and suspension (which they’d “repaired”). On February 23, 2015, I cranked the car up to leave work and the steering wheel loosened and turned far right on its own. Called AAA to have my baby towed. The AAA guy instantly diagnosed it and said the tie rod wasn’t done right.

The pin wasn’t inserted in the tie rod end. We found the bolt that came off in the parking lot.

All three AAA guys diagnosed the problem and confirmed about Midas improperly installing the outer tie rod ends. One even said that could be a lawsuit and Midas would eat the cost. Had I drove home, that could have been my life on the road. My baby was towed home on a flatbed and then towed straight to Midas the next morning on February 24, 2015. I was not confident in Midas working on my CRV again. Especially since they didn’t do the job right the first time and it had to be done again. And on top of that, the same technician from the first time ended up working on my car this time around. They apologized and claimed the part was defective. I seriously doubt that. This was completely their fault. Point blank.

And to top it all off, that same technician (initials TT, according to my invoice, I believe) that worked on my car both times and drove it out afterwards, stole $20 from my ashtray compartment. He reached down and picked something up off the floor and got out of my car while putting something in his pocket. We caught it before leaving and went back to confront the guy, a short white male that looked to be in his 30s maybe; thick southern drawl. They compensated my stolen possession…with the exact money he stole from my vehicle -- minutes before. We made a little scene about it. It’s the principle of the matter. I usually take my stuff out of my car when having it worked on or having it in the care of someone else. But I failed to completely take all my significant possessions out…like my frikin’ gas money left in the ashtray. Another technician informed us that that wasn’t the first time something like that happened around there and that ‘we didn’t hear that from him’.

So not only does Midas not properly repair parts on a car, they also search it and steal possessions. I’m not confident in the repairing of their wrongdoing. I’m wondering if something else might go wrong. Their credibility is shot with me. I actually feel I should be refunded the cost for labor, if not the whole amount. And since it was a "defective part," they should refund me the cost for parts since the problem had to be fixed (and hopefully it actually is this time and nothing else goes wrong from them working on it). I will be going to the home office about this. I will reach out to corporate about this. I will review the hell out of this Midas location. A situation like mine was potentially life-threatening and a definite lawsuit waiting to happen. They will not be getting my business.

Midas muffler located nationwide advertises lifetime warranty on their mufflers. Unfortunetly when your muffler goes bad, they will not honor the warranty! I own a 1995 cadillac seville with only 100,000 miles on it.I purchased it 3 years ago when it had 90,000 miles on it.The car was in excellant condition .It only needed new mufflers. This car has 2 mufflers. I was living in Troy,ny & that is where I purchased my lifetime mufflers. Now 3 years later,I am living 250 miles away in western new york state. Both of my mufflers need to be replaced.I have contacted several midas dealers in my area,& was told they won't honor my warranty! The last person I spoke with said my car was too old,& they no longer stock that muffler. When asking about the warranty,he hung up on me!

Midas muffler is guilty of false advertising in all of their nationwide ads! I feel they should be investigated by the federal trade commission & some type of class action lawsuit should be filed against them on a federal level! I doubt that I am the only victum of their fraudulent advertising! I feel my complaint is legitimate & I feel midas mufflers owes me 2 new mufflers ,or give me the cash value so I can go some place else.

My Husband is a seriously Disabled Veteran with Service Connected Disabilities. Currently his life is at risk due to uncurable and untreatable "Cerebral Blockage" in his main arties of his brain. He has already undergone heart surgery for 5 bypasses, two cancer removals and suffers from chronic PTSD.

On December 10, 2014 he took my car to a nearby Midas shop to set a time for a complete check up and maintanence. Midas gave us an estimate for about $800.00 including tires, tuneup and oil/lube. They also said we has a gasket leak that was about $350.00.

The appointment was for two weeks later January 2, 2015. Because we needed to break the service into three dates because we are on limited income. Midas said they could break the service into three dates.

They offered to drain the oil, refill it and they added a product caled "Lucas" which they claimed would treat the gasket leak?

14 Days later, the engine began to clang loud and on 1/16/15, Midas said the engine was "Terminal" and gave us a new estimate for $4,900.00

We called the dealer where we bought the car new, we contacted three auto mecahnics at differnt locations and all stated that the Lucas was a fatal mistake by Midas. Especially in our zero and sub-zero weather.

The car was next inspected by the manager and long time employee at a local Jiffy Lube. When he drained the oil that Midas had supposidley put in the car two weeks back on 1/2/15, it was water thin and jet black and he drained 6 quarts of whatever it was from a 4 cylendar engine.

The report and samples caused greator suspiction. Regardless, Midas has not come forth to handle the issue. I have reported to them that if my husband has a stroke that cripples him or he dies from his Cerbral condition, because he us unable to get back and forth to the VA Hospital that I will hold them responsible,

Both my husband and I are disabled and my husband is 70 years old. We cant afford $4,900.00 for a new engin on our low milage car that we bought new at the local dealership.

Hopefully, Midas will become attentive to this "Time Sensative" issue.

Christine

These people took me for a Catalytic Converter and ruin the head gasket causing exhaust leaks and costing me more money. I went to Midas for a second opinion. I had EGR codes told him my performance issue and he said I needed a Catalytic Converter. I had to prepay for my Catalytic Converter that took a week to put on. Came back a week later telling Matt my car was running sluggish and Midas replaced the Catalytic Converter for another one. Kept coming back hearing a rattling noise and the Matt said, I needed a bushing. This went on a month and never got it. When I got an oil change he ripped off a piece of my dust cover that was fine saying that was the noise was when I kept telling him it was in the front of the car at the Catalytic Converter. In addition I told him I heard a POOOF noise when I started the car and there was some lose of power when I accelerated. Car breaks down a week later thinking it was the Catalytic Converter was clogged. Towed the car to Midas in Homewood own by the same franchise company and found out it my timing belt tensioner gave out and not my Catalytic Converter. In addition, the Hoover store had order a new Catalytic Converter and had the receipt on the passager seat and when I picked up the car, it was missing. Dwight who worked on my car said he had no idea and never saw one. I had someone else work on my car and when they took the Catalytic Converter off, he said I had exhaust leak, Midas did not put my Head Gasket on tight enough breaking the head gasket, hence; the rattling noise I heard. I ask the General Manager Dwight at the Homewood store for some kind refund for my frustration taking my car back to Matt for three months not fixing the problem. The compensation I was looking for was to reimburse me for the labor, tax and the price of the head gasket. Dewight excuse was, he paid for the towing which I declined several times and swears he put in 400 hundred dollars of work into my car not charging me which was a lie. I paid for Belt Tensioner. I told him this has nothing to do with the faulty work that was done at his Hoover location and asked for a 50/50 split on the bill. He refused.

So I brought my car in for a routine oil change and a courtesy safety inspection. I was told the oil change would cost $26.99 without tax. There's a coupon on the website for a $19.99 oil change but they didn't want to honor it without being told about it. Mistake 1. Then the guy pulls my car into the shop and comes in and tells the manager that he can tell whats wrong with my car without doing anything to it. Ok? Mistake 2. He tells me the "shocks are destroyed and the oil is low and I haven't even checked the oil dipstick". So then he goes back out and gets the car up on the lift. The manager (Debbie) tells me after he starts not before that because of my car the new total will be $28 because my oil filter is more expensive. Mistake 3. I told her I've never paid extra for an oil filter so she took the extra off. Basically this company employs dishonest people who overcharge. By the way I got a quote for my struts. $801 for parts and labor. I looked on rockauto.com (best website for car parts) and struts are $89.99 per side so I'm not sure where this outrageous quote comes from but for ya'll out there don't come to Midas. Go anywhere else that offers an oil change cuz they'll overcharge you and lie to you.

Horrible Customer Service.

Went for a car inspection prior to purchasing the car and were over charged for the service. Attempted for months to get the over charge corrected and was ignored.

Also, were told the inspection included removal of all tires. Later we discovered that the car did not have the specific wheel lock required to take the tires off at the time of inspection. So, clearly the tires were not removed and the inspection was not completed probably at all.

This Midas will do as little as possible to get as much out of their customers as possible.

I went to MIDAS for a discount oil change that was too good to be true;-( The service manager said my Macpherson Struts needed replacing even though I had no complaints. He told me the wheels would fall off the car if I didn’t have this work done?

The morons at MIDAS DAMAGED the threads on one of the two knuckles on my car. The knuckle holds the front wheel to the strut. Instead of telling me they had damaged the threads, MIDAS put 10 washers on the threaded portion so they could tighten the bolt.

Thirty days later at a tire store the technician told me about the damage to my knuckle and the 10 washers MIDAS had added so they could tighten the bolt. The tire store technician said the car was UNSAFE to drive and that he could install a used knuckle for $600.00.

When I confronted MIDAS they told me to get lost and that I couldn’t prove a thing and laughed at me.

DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH MIDAS BECAUSE THEY ARE CROOKS, DEPRAVED, and INDIFFERENT!!!

They hide behind a corrupt legal system that doesn’t believe in justice or the rule of law!

Took car in on 9/23/13 to have a broken muffler bracket install. Shop replaced item #8014 and charged $73.25. One year (9/08/2014) later the bracket failed. Back to Midas Mt. Pocono for a replacement, expecting a free replacement. Manager said the repair needed new bracket #36153, and that the shop had not replaced the bracket previously. For the new bracket installed, $113.41. THE BRACKETS ARE IDENTICAL - THE INTERCHANGE BOOK LISTS THE 8014 AND THE 36153 AS IDENTICAL FROM TWO DIFFERENCE MANUFACTURERS. Would my husband have gotten a different result. The manager tried to rip me off. In addition, the manager listed the bracket price at $52.99. Bought the correct bracket from S***** R***** (((competitor REDACTED))) for $9.95.

On August 21st I was traveling from Warrenton, Mo. to Kentucky when my car was running hot. So I got it to

Midas in Mt. Vernon, Il. and they said yes they would look a t it. The manager said he added anti freeze and would let my car run and see how it goes he then cam back and stated he thought it needed a new cap on the radiator not holing pressure so I said ok. Now I am watching and speaking to other customes since I totally was there for over 3 hours. I noticed only the manager spoke with the customers never any mechanics. Well he then all of sudden my car is taken off for a test drive with someone no warning and a little while later the manager came up to me and stated my car is now having to be towed that oh my GOSH as he was going over RAILROAD TRACKS my tierod just cracked in half!!!!

I just had them replaced in March and if the tow co does not get it back by 4:30 i was screwed for that day and would have to find a place to stay with my daughter and puppy. Well it amazingly made it back by his friendly guy he knows towing at 4:26. and within minutes my car was fixed!! $320.00 later!! And he also explained to me that I had different leaks to my car which I take regularly to a mechanic. After sitting there all this time I noticed not one single person got out of there with out being told they all and I do mean ALL their cars had leaks and needed more service not one customer was told oh Mr. Jones your car is ready here is the bill alll was told they needed more on poor girl had a sensor lite out and he tried talking her into all four at 120.00 apiece with only one out she asked cant you fix just the one and well I guess I can maybe track the one down every single Bill of all the customers there during my Three hours was at least $ 185.00 to over $300.00!!!!

Now donot tell me this manager is not on COMMISSION and ripping off even the people they personally know and he needs a big check this is so wrong I know it was because I was a woman and out of town I took my car back to my mechanic on Monday showed him the old tierod since I asked for it back and was told this shouldve never happened that he had to of hit something really hard curb or the RAILROAD TRACK extremely hard that he has never seen a tierod of steel crack like this. The manager also stated he tested my car by jumping up and down on it WHY would he do this it was there for the radiator over heating!!! My mechanic also said it was missing a pin and showed me while he had on the racks that they never put back in after the alinment and the bolts was never tighten down he had to do that while i was standing there.

I'm senior citizen, not driving too much and changing oil in my car every three month. I started to use Midas Oil Change service in Palatine over one year ago. They provided very good service first two times. I had never waighted more than 20minites, including car inspection (lights, filters, air pressure in the tires, and wipers). I even recommended this place to my wife and she started use it as well. Last time I came to change oil in my car 04/06/2014. After 30 minites service mechanic came to me with oil plug in his hands. He show me pieces of foreign metal along threads on the plug. He told me that female threaded hole in the oil pen is damaged and I need to replace oil pen. He gave me Official Quote (R.O. #0125465) $499.96 for parts and laybor. He told me that today I need to pay additional for temprarly plug $15.99 and schedule oil pen replacement. I told them that Midas must take responsobility for repair, because they only one who changing oil in my car and did damaged during previouse oil change. But service manager reject my request. I paid for oil change and temporarly oil plug $43.24 and left. (Invoice #0125465). One week later 04/12/2014 I went to car repair shop (AvtoMotorWorks) and change oil pen. I paied for repair $274.43.

I think that MIDAS ripped me off and I paid my hard working money to fix their mistake.

I went here to have my brakes checked. They said my brakes were bad and my suspension was also bad. My truck had only 54K miles so I had my brother in law check the truck. There was NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR THE SUSPENSION. I was shocked to find that this dealership was trying to rip me off to the tune of $2296. Don't go to them for anything withot getting it checked elsewhere.
