Received "contract" in mail for $1797. Was supposed to STOP magazines, not start them. Manager Kevin got on phone after a young woman asked if I wanted magazines to stop coming. I told him I wanted the magazines to stop being delivered. Period. I had purchased a 1 year subscription in 2009, and was having it sent to a charity. He stated that he would have to do an override of the original, which was done back in 2009, and that I would receive mags for next 18 months until contract lapsed. I never had a contract to begin with.

I told him I was not paying for any magazines, nor would I ever. I repeated it numerous times. He stated I must repeat exactly what I said first time and he would tell me where to say NO, to stop the magazines from coming. He stated he had to do it this way in order to get it changed, and that if I did not answer as he requested, the magazines would fire him for trying to get subscriptions stopped. He stated it was not a sales call, only customer service.

I received a "contract" in the mail on 9/26/14, date 9/24/14 with account number 10029856 in the amount of $1797 due for MORE MAGAZINES. I think he was recording bits and pieces of the conversation to fit his needs. All info I gave him is fictitious, and the credit card number he had "on file" does not exist.

I note that it is a fictitious business name from Florida. I should have known it was a scam. At the bottom of the "contract" it states that "any proceedings to resolve or litigate any dispute in any forum will be conducted solely on an individual basis." It goes on to state that I may not hire an attorney to get this matter cleared up. I am aware that it is not binding on me. Please help get this scammer shut down.

Your Desired Resolution:

This account needs to be closed, and proof of same needs to be sent in writing. I want all magazine delivery to stop, want no further magazines, and no further contact with them.

This case will be reviewed by a complaint specialist at the Better Business Bureau, and then forwarded to the business for their response. It is our policy to allow the business 30 working days to respond to your complaint. You will be notified when the business has responded.

While on the phone we agreed on no renewals and stop of magazines. Couple of weeks later a new contract came in. I said im not paying for any magazines and i want them to stop coming several times. He stated I must repeat exactly what I said first time and he would tell me where to say NO, to stop the magazines from coming. He said it was the only way to make it work He reassured me 3 times that this was nothing new, and i would recieve a letter in the mail stating its over. A letter did come, but it was a new contract with an account number 17021305 and in amount of $1,497.00. As soon i recieved the letter i called my bank and locked my card and recieved a new one

I should have known its a scam. At the bottom of the "contract" it states that "any proceedings to resolve or litigate any dispute in any forum will be conducted solely on an individual basis." Received a call on january 9th 2015, they were trying to renew my subscription, one that i had never received any magazines, so i told them to cancel because i did not want any subscriptions that i had not ordered. They were supposed to stop magazines, not start them. Then i started to receive them and my account at the bank was used, i wanted magazines to stop coming, but now i have been placed in collections and a lady from a collections agency called and said that if i did not answer by 1pm i was going to have my name in the credit bureau. So i agreed in paying $100.00 today but then i got a lady from an organization to call them and clarify this. They told her i had agree to this. But i have not. She says that she will investigate more and now we are reporting this behavior all over so no more people fall into this scam.

Please help get these scam people shut down. I am young and they will ruing my credit. Please help!

They got my husband too, North Americas Readers Choice

They called my husband and told him they needed to set up payment for his active account. He had an account with another magazine subscription company and had paid them in full and thought maybe he didn't. They asked to verify his information, so he gave them everything. Then he listened to a recording and answered it how the guy told him to answer it, charges all included. So, long story short, they started up a new account for him and charged him $50 a month for 30 months, first payment recieved, we stopped the rest by changing the card number. They were billing him almost $1500. When we got the letter in the mail stating the payment plan, I called them up to cancel. Those jerks would not talk to me because my "name was not on the account." My husband was nice and asked what it would take to cancel the account. North Americas Readers Choice guy said they would settle for half of the total up front to cancel, that's almost $750. There is no way I'm letting them have a dime. We are even disputing the first charge and have filed a claim with The Better Business Bureau.
