One Call Alert Reviews

  • Jul 25, 2014

Although providing a means for an older loved one to maintain autonomy seems to be a "noble cause," not all companies providing services would agree...including ONE CALL MEDICAL ALERT or ONE CALL ALERT of Houston Texas, 1-800-994-2095, onecallmedicalalert.com, where it's all about the money--yours! provides the systems that allow a person to push a button on a provided pendant or bracelet to have Emergency Services called on their behalf if they need aid and are not able to make a phone call.

We had ordered one of their systems through the internet for my mother around 5/3/14, when she was in a post-op facility and "prepaid" for 3 months of their subscription type service. In waiting for their equipment to arrive at her home (after 5/13...we can't be sure, as no one was now at my mother's home, all were with her at the hospital, then hospice...), she was readmitted to the hospital with what was a non-related case of Stage 4 cancer, so it was aparent that this service was no longer to be necessary. One this was determined, ONE CALL MEDICAL ALERT was contacted informing them that we would be returning their equipment--UNOPENED--and would like to cancel their service for a refund. We were given a return authorization and told that "a refund would be credited back to the same account that it was originally drawn." She passed away 5/28/14. We paid to have their equipment returned on 6/5/14 and it was received on 6/9/2014.

When we inquired a couple of weeks later as to what was the delay in getting a refund of the $83.85, we were told by "Jason" that since we had "exceeded the 7 day period to set-up and try out the system, NO Refund would be given..." When I restated what appeared to be his company's "cold" position on the deceased and said that I would have little recourse but to follow this up with the BBB and online sources, he hung up on me...nice Customer Service!

Although I can understand that ONE CALL MEDICAL ALERT generates it's revenue and profit from selling subscriptions, it's disappointing that a corporation would be so calloused as to not allow refunds of completely unused systems, returned unopened in their original boxes, sent back in what many would consider a timely manner (a month) while dealing with the hectic final days and passing of a loved one.

I would NOT RECOMMEND anyone to use ONE CALL MEDICAL ALERT of Houston in providing medical alert type services, as it is clear that this is NOT a company providing True Customer Service!

I plan to also follow up my complaint with the BBB and all those "Partners" the One Call Madical Alert touts on their website, as there are many, many more medical alert services one can possibly choose from!
