This dealer sold a truck to a friend on a Friday evening. He took the truck home and it wouldn't start the next day.

I am a mechanic so he called me to look at it. I went to his house and the fuel pump would not run. I beat on the gas tank with my fist a few times and got the fuel pump running. The truck then started right up. I ordered a fuel pump/sending unit for it that came in the following day (Sunday). We got together and dropped unit is held in by six bolts, this truck had three bolts broken off and the sending unit was being held in with black rtv. I then ordered a new fuel tank which arrived Monday. I installed the new tank with the new sending unit.

When I tried to start the truck, the fuel pump wouldn't run. The truck didn't start all night. Tuesday evening I went back to the truck and it still wouldn't start. I decided to check fuel pressure so I went to get a tester. When I got back to the truck, I installed the fuel pressure tester on the fuel rail and the truck immediately started. I started the truck 4 or 5 more times that evening before letting my friend leave with the truck. He took it home and parked it. Wednesday he made arrangements to return it to the dealer. When he got in the truck to take it back, it wouldn't start. Someone else told him to use the key in the drivers door to unlock the truck. He did that and the truck started. The owners manual has a section in it about finding and resetting the fuel pump inertia switch. That section was highlighted in yellow when I looked at the manual.

The body on this truck has metal patch panels riveted in place and covered in body filler and painted over. The rocker panels are all body filler.

The dealer did buy this truck back from my friend. They didn't send it to the auction but put it back on the lot for sale. In the ad for this truck it says "it only has 89,000 miles, a clean vehicle history and is in fantastic condition inside and out".

Everyone should be warned of their shady business practices.

I am trying to understand why your friend wanted you to work on a vehicle he had bought the day before. Sounds like they owned up and refunded his money. What is the "shady" part?
