Resume Writing Guild Reviews

This service says on their website, "No other resume writing service guarantees their first draft will be free of errors or your money back!"

Not only did I get a resume full of errors, but this company refused to make good on their guarantee stating that I could not get my money back. I needed a resume rewritten so I hired this company. They showed me what the finished product would look like, in return I received this incohesive, excessively lengthy concoction starting with my photo, a generic cover photo graphic from Google+ and job titles I never even expressed an interest in pursuing going forward. I very clearly specified upfront what type of position I am seeking, even going so far as to forward an actual job description of my ideal job. Yet for some reason that was ignored in favor of what Tracy had in mind instead. She had a redundant objective and profile summary, and the dang resume was four pages long. I have a lot of experience, but seriously four pages is a bit much. It was also full of errors. For instance, Tracy changed the way I'd classified my software. She thought Nuance Pro was an Adobe program and that Microsoft makes iWorks and ProjectLibre. Font attributes were used inconsistently. And she used another client's resume, pasted my content into it, and accidentally left their information in it as if it was mine. She wholly refuted this, but I guess she didn't realize she told me that she did another customer's resume in that format and it resulted in a phone call within 10 minutes after being submitted online (which I don't believe for a second). Everyone (and there were plenty) I showed that resume to was like why did you waste your money?

If that wasn't bad enough, the explanations were laughable -- such as why she/they (apparently it was a group effort) chose to put my photo on the resume. I'm not in entertainment, real estate, insurance--I'm in I.T. You don't put photos on technical resumes. Tracy wanted me to be a creative professional though, and my name didn't give their 10-member committee a "professional" impression. "Is that her stripper name?" "A Mexican aunt?" "too young" "cute and familiar" were some of the things that the manager, Roxanne (which sounds more to me like a phone sex operator's name if I've ever heard one) stated my name suggests to them which, therefore, justified their use of my photo because my photo "Debunks all of that and makes [me] look professional and worthy of hire." Is that not the most insulting foolishness? I laughed loud and long at the utter ridiculousness of these people. Why in the heck were they analyzing my name anyway? Who does that? How is that helpful?

Furthermore, Roxanne is condescending and patronizing. She kept referring to me as "The Artist formerly known as," like I was going to change the name on my resume because of their two cents. And THEN she said their resume expertise was "outside the box" and that my that thinking inside the box hasn't gotten me where I want to be in my career. Funny how she had no reply after I summarized my accomplishments, my legacy, and that I'm merely pursuing something different at this point. She totally had me mixed up with somebody else and was so used to giving justification for complaints that she didn't even check my file before she responded. Rude.

I wish the resume was the only disappointment. The JumpStart job search package is an even bigger ripoff. Ironically that's how I found them in the first place. What this joker did was search job engines and company sites, and then send a list of companies with the names of whoever she found on their site. When I got the list it was easy to figure out what she'd done, but I couldn't believe she thought that was okay!! How totally stupid! The jobs weren't even jobs I would apply for. She found a few vaguely related jobs and sent me these companies' info as if she had knowledge that they hire people who do what I do. That was 1/4 of the list. The second part of the list comprised names of firms related to the career I very clearly specified in writing that I am leaving! If I tell you I'm making a career switch, then common sense and logic would tell you that list will not be helpful. The rest of the list were random companies she so very obviously pulled out of thin air.

Oh, and get this. I requested a refund and they refused, saying they'd give me part of it and that they don't know what I "imagined" (as if imagining I'd get what I paid for was really unrealistic), but claimed they did send me what they were paid to do. If that was the case, then why refund anything? Clearly an acknowledgement that they know that the resume was terrible. You can't gurantee perfection, then say garbage is perfect so you have to pay for it.

Since they do not list their address on their website, you can find them here:

Thank you!!

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about your experience with Resumewritingguild.com. I am in the process of re-writing and editing my resume. I didn't know which resume writer website to choose because there are so many online basically all guaranteeing the best quality and service.

I was going to go with Resumewritingguild until I decided to research any reviews and/or complaints against this company. I am glad that I did a Google search and I came across your complaint and review of this website. If you don't mind me asking, did you go with another resume writer service, if you did, which and where you satisfied?

Thank you.

Take Care
