Salvation Army Reviews

I worked at the Salvation Army and heard a lot of info about the so called ''captains'' and ''majors'' helping themselves to pricy goods that had been donated to help the needy. These ''leaders'' all live in free houses so they don't even pay the same bills (i.e. mortgages, for instance) that the average needy or impoverished person must. Their so-called ''re-hab'' program requires the people who stay there to sign up for welfare, give their foodstamps to the group kitchen, and be involved in ''work therepy'' which is a nice way of saying they get a bunch of laborers and do not pay them. The managers and supervisors who do actually get paid are allowed discounts and often take things they want although their policy states that this greedy act isn't allowed....but they still do it anyway. Their slogan...'''doing the most good''' is quite a crock, unless they mean that they are doing the most good for themselves. And for a group that has a tax exempt, ''church'' status, they are far from christian-like towards their employees. I was given a hard time for entering the store after hours during one of the biggest storms in Buffalo, NY....the one referred to as ''the October Surprise'' which crippled the entire region, no gas, no one was allowed to drive, downed power lines, etc. Buffalo-type storm disaster stuff. I have read complaints in the past about the goodwill, this place is no better......far worse, in my view. I really want to know.....just who do they think they are ''doing the most good'' for?? I was in hurricane Andrew in Texas, and I saw the Red cross, FEMA....but I certainly didn't see anyone from the Salvation Army. Got something of value - no matter how small - and want to rid yourself of clutter? My advice is give it to someone you know, or a small local church or charity.....anybody but these dry alcoholics that are a bunch of hypocrites and thieves. They really know how to take the Christianity out of an alleged Christian organization.

35 Years ago i was a flooring mechanic in the Pottstown area, and found that as we installed carpet & ceramic tile in a posh home in the north end, the home was the residence of a couple that were involved with the Salvation Army....they were married and the beautiful house, new car swimming pool, etc was all a write off as they were owned BY the Salvation Army.

By Bringing a child or elderly in need into thier home, and giving them a meal once a month, it was all paid for by "" The Army"" they called it...WTF ? TtHAT WAS ONLY one INSTANCE, THERE WERE NUMEROUS OTHERS WE DID WORK FOR.... And they get bell ringing a**holes to VOULENTEER this time of year to suck the money out of the gullible public ! what a JOKE WAKE-UP.
