When we first decided to rent the property located at , we did it knowing there were some issues with the home that we felt were minor enough and would not pose any problem with our state of welfare and also state of mind. Issues such as a toilet loose at the base, which the toilet was also clogged when we looked at the house, a gas stove that had knobs that could be easily turned (this issue would later be blamed on us),A lawn mower that was sitting and leaking oil which would later be blamed on us), a torn window screen, molding that had came loose, and stains here and there on the carpet that was laid throughout the house, in addition to out-dated windows and bathrooms. Heck, we were simply happy to have a house to move in to when we came back to the state of Ohio.
The trouble all started the night we arrived at the house for the first time as renters of the house. We walked in to a flooded kitchen from a bad dishwasher and clogged drain. That wasn't all of it. We had food items that had nowhere to go because the refrigerator that was provided to us did not work. Granted, after we called the landlords to take care of this, they did. Half done including a dishwasher replaced incorrectly to which the top of it would rub the bottom of the countertops and cause the buttons to malfunction. Day three, landlords were called again because the laundry room faucets were dripping uncontrollably. This is only the beginning of our what we called "money pit" experience.
Within a week, we noticed the carpet was soaked. We had no clue what in the world would cause this. Only to find out later on that it was caused from a rigged and faulty condenser pump cord and therefore, the pump would not run when it should. Which was every summer time when the AC was turned on. However, in the mean time, we would notify the landlords and they would pretend they had never experienced problems in the house. Problems like stated above, don't just come about overnight. Come on, they lived there during the summertime. This faulty pump caused water to spill over next to the furnace as well and in turn, leaving mold to occur. Our family started having really bad breathing and sinus problems only to find out it was indeed the house causing it, once we moved elsewhere and the problems ceased.
Fast forward a few months of living there, living with a foul smell coming from one of the closets. I don't think they ever cleaned while they were living there. The smell was like death had happened and continued to happen over and over again and they pretended what was causing the smell did not exist.
We dealt with a flooded venting system from poorly done yard drains they put in. Once again, they acted as they never dealt with the problems while they were living there. For all the years they lived there, i might add. Each time a problem took place, we were made to feel badly about the burden the cost to repair the issues took on their family. Including letting us know how the wife had to quit school and get a job because of the costs.
Scroll forward once again, still dealing with minor issues that we started fixing but when major issues took place, we had to have them repair the problems. Such as when the major wiring coming into the house from its meter overheated and burnt out. If I would not have been out there and detected the electrical smell, there would have been a fire. The electric had to be shut off by the electric company because it was too unsafe to have on even to turn on the well water pump to get water to flush the toilets.Therefore, we had no water because this house was the only house in the area that was not upgraded to city water. So they hired a person who was not a certified electrician to fix the issue. He got shocked in the process. Well, that's what happens when you work on something you know nothing about. I began to see this guy pretty regularly because for one, issues continued to constantly take place, and for 2, he was cheap. The water filter system then went bad and in turn, flooding the floor in the teeny tiny laundry room that had not been updated to modern and up to date electrical wiring in the hole time the house has existed. The furnace went out, more electrical problems including bedroom lights and outlets would stop working. A couple times, electricians would be hired but would quickly be replaced with the cheap guy after telling the landlords how much of a electrical mess there was. Countertops buckled up from the poor job the owner did putting them in. The brick around the fireplace was cracking down due to the house having foundation problems. The bathtub in the master bath constantly had water dripping from it's faucets and in turm, molding the wood around the bathtub. By the way, who surrounds a bath tub with wood? Also, don't count on the owners to service the well that furnishes the water (the rusty orange water that will leave your close dingy and your toilets, showers, and everything else gross) They claim they will service it but they never do. Also, we spend so much money on salt, rust out and iron out, that the amount we paid in rent should have been lower to justify a renter spending that much on upkeep of it.
Each day turned into a headache and a nightmare to live in this house. Several times, we looked at other houses to move to. However, we would feel very badly about moving because we knew the rent money helped the owners. How we knew was because they owners fully disclosed this to us. Another reason is we already move enough as it is and our 4 kids established friends right next door. The combination of the above, left us feeling stuck. We finally moved and could not be more happy with the house we are in now. To the point that we are working on buying it. There are so many houses in this area that are not death traps, don't pick this particular house. It is not worth living in a rigged and dangerous house that it is just a matter of time and it will catch fire due to electrical rigging or be condemmed because of the mold.
This report is to bring awareness about the condition of this house and the manipulation tactics the owners/landlords will take in order to act like the problems never existed before (hence making the renters feel like they are the problem) and also to make renters feel badly about the problems. The house..well, it is not worth living in. Granted, the house is large for being a single story ranch but it comes with so many headaches, literally. We should have ran from the property as soon as the very first moment we walked in as renters and walked in to a flooded kitchen and broke refrigerator. That was just the beginning of nothing but troubles with the house and the owners/landlords.
To top it all off and to add insult to headache injury, the owners are attempting to blame us now, after we have moved out, for things that don't apply to us as renters. The nightmare of these people and this house continue to still follow us... Please nobody else live in this house....
