Sears Home Improvement Products, Inc. Reviews

Here is the information about my Sears roofing experience installed by Rasmussen Exteriors Purchased on 06/08/2013 from Sears Salesman Tom Marciniak.

Tom stated during sale that roof inspection would be performed and attic would be inspected for proper ventilation prior to roof being replaced. He stated for shingle warranty purposes proper ventilation of attic would be inspected.Tom also stated during sale that any damaged sheeting (plywood)would be replaced as needed.he said enough sheeting will be brought along with crew to redo my complete house and neighbors house. (Only 12 pieces of sheeting were dropped off at house, day before project started.) Tom also stated during sale that third party inspector would show up after project was done for final inspection to make sure shingles had proper amount of nails and is done to Sears standards for warranty purposes.

Project coordinator Gary from Sears called and scheduled roof replacement. I asked him about initial inspection and he stated, inspection will not be done because I'm to far away. I called Salesman Tom about this statement and he promised to call the Sears office. Gary from Sears called me back and stated roof would be inspected when roofing crew shows up. Contractors tore off old roof and installed replacement roof in one day. on July 08th 2013. Attic was never inspected for proper ventilation.

Crew dropped lots of old nails in yard.Had pile of nails close to where their truck was parked and ended up with nail in my car tire. Needed to borrow large magnet to sweep the yard and found considerable amount of nails.

Send e-mail to Tom on 07/11/13 with photos of crooked rows and poor roof cap and nails in grass. Contractor from Rasmussen came back and rearranged some shingles shortly after this and applied some glue to roof cap which didn't fix problem. Also shingles are still unevenly spaced and in crooked rows. I was speaking with Henry from Rasmussen Exteriors during this time and he mentioned crooked rows are due to waves in roof sheeting,(which is completely false)

I inspected roof closer after this and noticed actual broken shingles and other damaged shingles from poor handling and installation procedures. Also noticed pieces of underlayment exposed. Henry scheduled crew for third time and Henry and I believe it was Gary from Sears met me at home on 07/31/13 and looked at roof, one crew member was also present.I pointed out damage and crooked rows to them and crew member tore out and replaced some damaged shingles. It was raining during this time and I had difficulty finding and pointing out every damaged shingles due to shingles turning dark and blending in when wet.4th visit,Sears/Rasmussen contractors showed up 10/15/2013 without notifying me when I was out of town for couple of days. Contractors were here same time. No phone calls were made to me or any indication they would be here.

I wasn't aware they were here till 10/16/2013 Wednesday. Sears also had my wife sign paper stating they were here and job is done. This she signed without thinking that I would need to check job first. My wife's name is also not listed on roofing purchase contract. Contractors/Sears had no dealing with her, Only me.

They replaced more shingles and applied sealant in some spots.

Long story short is this roof is now looking worse than ever. Poor erratic spacing and still have damaged shingles. Now after 4th visit by Sears and Rasmussen contractors. Every time contractors work on roof more damage is done. Every time shingles are pulled up glue is pulled off and shingles will never properly attach and hold. Contractors have had 4 chances now to properly install roof. Also main issue has never been addressed which is erratic and poorly installed shingles. Some shingles were cut with knife by contractors to attempt straightening out rows. Shingles are not designed to be cut on leading edge. Can see underlayment exposed in some places.Couple places underlayment is installed on top of shingles. Under layment material is designed to be installed on sheeting before shingles are installed.

Personal from Sears stopped in 06/11/2014. They didn't say what they were here for or what solution will be.Met them on roof and showed areas of concern, nails pushing up/loose.Sears person applied pressure to loose nails under shingle and nails were obviously loose from wood meaning wood sheeting is rotted. Contractors were supposed to replace any rotted wood according to sales.Sears person applied sealant to this loose nails shingle area. Showed Sears personal shingles that were cut by contractors on leading edge to attempt straightening, areas where underlayment was installed over shingles and then cut by contractors to attempt concealing from me.Erratic shingle spacing, missing glue from previous ripped off shingles to attempt repairs.

Sears personal didn't say anything while on roof except they're was alot of traffic on this roof already,I said yes this is something I was hoping to avoid. Both Sears personal took photos of areas of concern. Before exiting roof area Robert said they will send info gathered to legal department. Roof still has erratically spaced shingles, damaged shingles, improperly installed underlayment, missing glue from shingles and loose nails under shingle.Nothing was done to address these areas of concern or provide refund. This is 5th time roofing personal was here due to horrible roofing replacement deal.

Sears send letter 06/20/2014 Stating sealant was applied to 1 damaged shingle and roof is now within industry standards...What a joke! Sears company or any side line companies owned by Sears will ever receive any money from this ripped off consumer.
