Two years ago, I looked online for companies that could make an affordable prefab cottage for my backyard to use as an office. I saw So Cal Cottages and they were advertizing prices that I thought I could afford, expecially with the current discount. After emailing John O Connor, president of this company, I told him I would like to secure that discount, but could not afford the entire amount at this time. He said if I sent a deposit, $2,000, he would hold the discount to my purchase when ever I was able to afford it. Over a two year period, I tried to work out a price and plan I could afford, but everytime I made the size of the cottage smaller, he did not reduce the price accordingly based on the reduction in materials. So, I finally gave up and asked him to please return my deposit. Once I sent an emailing asking for my deposit back, I did not receive a response from him. I then called him and he would not call me back. I then send a letter by mail and it was "returned to sender" . I then sent a certified mailing with a demand letter that was also "returned to sender" and he wrote "moved" on the envelope. After that, I sent another certified mailing that needed signature of receipt and this time I did not leave my returen address and this one was signed by Tess Mullen, so I know he got this demand letter. However, again, no response!!!! Since then I spent half a day in the court house trying to get advice on how to get my money back from this crook. I don't how much more time I can afford to spend on this, but want to get the word out to everyone who reads this to stay away from JOHN O CONNER and any of his unlicensed companies: SO CAL COTTAGES, ECOSCAPE, ECOSCAPE OUTDOORS. There are many complaints about him on YELP and the BBB has him Rated "F". Do not do business with him! Do not give him your money!
