I purchased a Sprintex SuperCharger Kit on Ebay from MVPMotorsports on March 20th 2014. The final price that was accepted was $2300 through the best offer option on Ebay. I immediately paid the invoice of $2300 through paypal. The kit was shipped out on March 21st and was received March 27th. The kit was installed on March 29th and 30th and a faulty fuel injector that came with the kit caused massive engine damage resulting in $8258 worth of damage.
Prior to receiving the supercharger, I contacted Gary Turner from Sprintex and asked a few questions regarding the mileage on my jeep and the difficulty with the installation. Gary assured me that the installation would not be a problem on the 88,000-mile engine that I have in my jeep and that we would be fine with the installation as long as we followed the directions.
Myself, a friend and his 35-year electrician and train mechanic father installed the supercharger on March 29th -30th. We followed all directions perfectly and programmed the ECU with the supplied programmer from Hypertech. The engine had problems from the first start.
We immediately called Gary Turner from Sprintex for help and he explained over and over that it was the map sensor O-ring that we later successfully replaced and installed. We were still having problems with the engine running rough and shaking even after we changed the o-ring. We then contacted Hypertech for assistance.
We got a hold of Jay from Hypertech and he helped us reprogram the vehicle. The reprogramming calmed the engine shaking and allowed us to start the jeep and drive it. I personally drove the jeep and it was misfiring pretty bad and it eventually started to shake again. I had to drive the jeep maybe 10 miles home and had issues with the engine shaking and a loss of power on hills. I called Gary again on the phone and he told me that it was do to the lift I installed on my jeep over a year ago. I assured him that was not the issue and that it was starting to smoke out the exhaust.
I managed to get the jeep home and park it in my garage. The jeep was driven to the mechanic at Bretts Jeep Shop in Lumberton New Jersey, the very next day and the catalytic converter blew out the exhaust pipe on the way. The exhaust was blowing white smoke everywhere and the check engine light was on and blinking and not turning off. I arrived at Bretts Jeep shop and he immediately said you are throwing misfire codes and your not burning all the fuel that is being sprayed. That swhy your catalytic converter blew up.
He stated that he would have to replace the spark plugs wires and the catalytic converter since it was destroyed. And he would also have to replace a faulty fuel injector, which may be the cause of all of this. I said go for it and alerted Gary to the issues. Gary overnighted an injector to Brett. He replaced all the above and did a few more tests only to find that there were compression issues in cylinder 3. Brett stated that the fuel injector was stuck open pouring gas into the cylinder and it destroyed the rings. The gasoline heated up and ignited in the catalytic converter causing an explosion destroying the catalytic converter. Brett advised throwing a rebuilt engine in the jeep.
I run my own business and need my car so I immediately ordered the rebuilt engine and had it shipped to Bretts Jeep Shop in Lumberton New Jersey. I also kept any and all receipts and sent them to Gary as he stated they would help in any way they could. Brett replaced the engine and put the installed the supercharger again and then he reprogrammed the ECU. Now everything is running good. He stated that the injector caused all the damage. Meanwhile Gary and Sprintex are now trying to find a way to not pay for the damages. They are blaming Bosch. Bosch is the company that makes the fuel injectors. Sprintex is having the engine checked for prior damages. They are trying to prove that the engine had issues before the supercharger so they won’t have to pay. They are also having one of their testers test the injector in Oklahoma to see if it is faulty. That way if their guy says the injector is good they won’t have to pay. I did mail the injector to the place they chose.
Sprintex makes this Supercharger but has other companies add their own parts to the kit. They (Sprintex) sell the kit as one unit. The total damages add up to $8258.71 and I cannot afford to pay it.
I believe that Sprintex needs to step-up and help with paying the damages. I cannot afford to cover $8258 due to a faulty injector that Sprintex sold in their kit. I had to purchase a Catlaytic converter, spark plugs, rental car, an engine, and new battery and change the oil. I have supplied all receipts.
I just got my jeep back Friday April 18th. Luckily part of the time I was able to use my wife’s car instead of paying for a rental car.
