Summit Medical Group Reviews

I have been going to the same doctors for many years. I have no complaints about the doctors and I have never had problems with billing issues in the past. However, ever since they were bought up by Summit Medical Group about a year ago, I've had nothing but billing issues including being billed for office visits when they are fully covered by insurance with no co-payment, and being billed for co-payment amounts already paid (and I have a receipt from them to prove it). Their billing office is totally non-responsive, and don't care. They are threatening to turn my bill over to collections, and I am threatening them with a lawsuit if they do. It will probably go to court because they appear to be too stupid to realize that they are in the wrong.

I really hate to leave the doctos who have been my primary care providers for many years. But, if the billing issues do not get fixed, i may have to go elsewhere simply to avoid the stress of dealing with the idiots in their billing department.

Summit Medical Group recently took over NJ Physicians which my doctor, Dr. Isralowitz belongs to. I get blood tests every six months and they have always been covered by my insurance company. I received a bill for the tests and I was charged over $180 for the lab work. I called Cigna and they told me that Summit didn't use the right codes and it should of been billed as Preventive testing. They billed it wrong so Cigna told me to have the doctor submit a corrected claim. The doctor agreed and told me not to pay them until they did. I have tried reaching Summit and they told me bill was correct. Finally I contacted the doctor again and got a written letter from Cigna saying there was NO maxinum amount of lab tests as long as it is billed as preventive. The doctor agreed to change it. But guess what? I've sent the billing company about 20 emails becasue they don't phone me back and the bill is still open and not adjusted. I just wrote the doctor another email and also them. Summit Medical did the same thing to me that they did to the other people that I saw complaints against them. I think Summit tries to get the insurance companies not to pay thinking they can get more money from the doctors patients. Billing never calls you back. THEY ARE A RIPOFF ORGANIZATION. I will not relent. I want this bill corrected because I should not have to pay for tests that were always covered in the past especially when doctor agrees with me. Summit Medical Group should be investigated for fraudulent business practices and rude people. Earl of their billing department was rude and did not even try to talk to doctor. He just said everything is correct.

Latyia Winchester also answered me without reading my emails and said they weren't going to research the matter and that bill is correct even after the doctor told her to change it.

Avoid Summit Medical Group if you don't want a surprise bill that is not covered by your insurance.

I went to Summit Medical Group Urgent Care Center. They are a participating provider in my insurance plan and I am only supposed to be responsible for a $20 co-pay. The doctor ordered various lab tests. My Patient Care Summary said all the lab tests would be performed by "SMG lab". I was surprised to find out that I am responsible for a lab bill for $434 becuase Summit Medical Group sent some lab tests to Overlook Hospital's lab (which is not a participating provider in my insurance).

I called Summit Medical Group's billing department. They are "sorry" but it is not their responsibility to send lab tests to a participating laboratory. What? All they can say is I am "unfortunately" responsible for the bill to Overlook Hospital's lab.

(1) There was no reason to send some lab tests (the most expensive one that was ordered 2 times) to another lab. The Patient Care Summary provided to me says all the lab tests would be processed by SMG Lab. All the laboratory tests processed by SMG lab would have been covered by my insurance company.

(2) Summit Medical Group cannot provide me with the lab results allegedly processed by Overlook. The manager in billing (Michelle) said the lab results are at Overlook. So why did they order these lab tests if no one at Summit Medical Group would review the lab results? Was it really necessary to order lab tests, send it to another facility, and then not even obtain a copy of the lab test results?

(3) Michelle also said it's not Summit Medical Group's repsonsibilty to ask me which laboratries are participating in my plan because most people don't know. I happen to know which laboratories participate in my plan. Even if I didn't know, I could look it up on my smartphone.

The Summit Medical Group employees just parrot a standard answer. Basically, they are sorry that I am unfortunately facing a $434 bill to Overlook but they provided me with the best care possible. No one can provide me with answers to my questions. Why couldn't SMG lab process the blood tests as indicated on my Patient Care Summary? Why did they send it to Overlook Hospital's lab if I was only in Summit Medical Group for a few hours? Why don't they have the lab results from the Overlook Hospital lab?

I went to Summit Medical Group's Urgent Care Center so I would not have a large out-of-pocket expense. Now through no fault of mine, I owe Overlook Hospital $434. I didn't seek services from Overlook Hospital. If I wanted to choose Overlook Hospital, I woud have gone to Overlook's ER instead of waiting for Summit Medical Group's Urgent Care Facility to open at 7:00 am when I was in terrible discomfort and pain!

Summit Medical Group in Berkeley Heights New Jersey does not honor their appontment. More than once I had an appointment two or three weeks in advance, confirmed couple of days ahead of scheduled appointment that were cancelled about an hour before appointment. No valid execuse or acceptable appology. They asked to schedule. Again two or three week for the new time slot.
