Didn't see any problems. Seems they were a legitimate company. But I didn't call them back immediately because I was still researching some other companies. This Mason guy calls me several times, once on my cell phone, when I was with a patient, which is only for doctors, patients and my agency, so I had not given it to him, and can't figure out how he was able to obtain the number to this day. I decided to get an estimate from them and set up an appointment.
A guy name Eli arrives examines the deck, gvies a detailed estimate including demolition, hauling, clean-up, building foundation- a great impressive presentation which was more than any other contractor had done. I decided to contract with them because the others made no mention of building a foundation or choice of wood. The total job for a 90 Sq. ft patio deck came to $5100. On Thursday, 3/26, I gave 10% down and $910 for material to start, and said a crew would begin demolition the next day. The projected start date was Saturday, 3/27. On Friday, @ 8:30am 3/27 a crew of two men, supervised by one named ""David"" ariived and I observed one man strip off all the wood and haul it away in a van. There was still a lot of layered soil, plant roots and debris left behind when 2 of the men left at about 9:00am. David, the supervisor went out to his car and was on the phone. At approximately 9:10am he knocked on the door and told me they would be returning tomorrow. This was my weekend to work but I had my 9:30a patient reassigned assuming they would arrive by at least 9:00a- no call; no show.
Giving them the benefit of doubt (it is Saturday) I request reassignment for my 10:15a and 11:45a patients. I waited, still no call, no show. Called my agency and had my 1:30p reassigned, and ultimately when no one showed by 3:00p. I called the number Mr. Mason had given me and it was a wrong number. Called the company on the contract - it was closed for the weekend. The following day (Sunday) I found the company card and noticed Eli left his number on the back. I called him and told him what had happened. Of course i got a lot of excuses, but no apology. To him it seemed like no big deal,""...just one little mistake.."" It was just ""one little mistake"" that cost me $320 @ $80 a patient. He just didn't get it. at this point I'm pretty pissed off, so I decide since they didn't feel I deserve the consideration of a call to inform me that the wouldn't be able to return as originally stated by David, I don't want to do business with them. I tell Eli they can keep the $510 for the demolition, but I want to exercise my three day right to cancel and a return of $990. He wants to continue to argue that they used the money to purchase the materials. But I can go to my bank online and see that the check hadn't been deposited. I persisted until he verbally agreed under his breath.
I call Monday morning and speak with a woman named Claudia who said she'd call back by noon that day. No callback. Called back today- she said"" things were too hectic and busy"" to return my call as stated previously, and said another person would be calling me later today for more details. I’m still waiting. I went online and can tell that the check was deposited after phone call with Claudia informing them of wish to exercise 3 day right to cancel. I'm following up by sending them a letter in writing and plan to ride their #$%&-es just like they pursued me. This was just as insulting as being stood up by a man for a date and I definitely think this is a form of gender based discrimination. Now I know why this Mr. Mason kept referring to me as Mrs. when certainly the property is listed in my name only, he asked to speak to me by my full name and property record's searches reveal I purchased the property as a single woman.
