This began by doing an internet search with regard to my router which I was having connection problems with. Internet searched d-link which brought up a number to call, 1-800-829-4670. A subsequent search the next day I was unable to find the phone number found on the Web page. All were gone. Talked to several people, a Mike White, an Abby and a James all with East Indian accent. I was informed they were operating out of New York but have operations throughout the U.S., Canada and other countries. I was subsequently talked into allowing them access to my computer where it was explained (discovered) that amoung other things an executible program csrss.exe was in fact a trojan horse and that my computer had been hacked.

They even brought up a web page from microsoft which showed the csrss.exe confirming thier claim. It was then the pressure tactics started about a program they would install remotely that would clear up my problems. All I had to do was provide my Visa to the amount of what started out to $568.00 u.s. This amount was eventually lowered to $490.00 then to $368.00 u.s. After explained that I wanted to research what they had infomed me was a trojan horse and after more pressure to purchase I finally ended the conversation which resulted in several followup calls direcetly after. To the csrss.exe I found it to be a critical Windows operating program and was unable to replicate the Microsoft web page previously mentioned. I also took my CPU into a reputable retailed who checked my system for anything but could find nothing. Computer was clean!

Not sure if this is a scam ot not.

I called after doing an internet search for tech support. I have 2 PC's, 4 external storage devices, a smart TV, a PS3 and a PS4 which are all suspect for being infected. I have a stalker and she gained access to my house and definitely got into my PC's. I know for a fact that what ever she did gave her access to my financial info, passwords, my internet usage and whatever other personal info I was dumb enough to put into my PC. Also my webcam and internal mic on my laptop were turned on and live streaming at one point. I know that some types of worms and malware with quickly spread to other devices when all are connected to each other and the internet.

So anyway, I call 866-866-2001 and an Indian man answers, I explain my problem, and he asks for remote access to my PC. No problem there. All info in PC is old and out of date for obvious reasons. He does some searching around and I am watching. He finds lots of problems with my PC. All security is disabled. There are worms tracking all my activities and uploading to unknown sources. He says he can't trace where it is all going to. Blah blah blah. Just as I assumed when I called him. Then he wants my credit card info and offers to clean all 10 of my potentially infected devices for $299.00. Would be a good deal, if its legitimate. He gave me a Case ID-######## which I was told I would have to give to a technician which I would be passed on to after payment is received. So I'm thinking that maybe these guys are scammers and they will fake infections in peoples PC's so that they can offer fixes. But they wouldn't have to fake anything in my case. Does this mean that if someone calls them with genuine problems that they don't have to fake that they won't provide the services they claim they will? In my case the fix was to create a windows reinstall disk, reformat both PC's, reinstall windows 8.1 and then move on to the other devices to check for further infections. The diagnosis and treatment was right on par with what I already knew I needed and the tech skills of the guy doing the evaluation were very good. I would like to see someone who is very knowledgeable with computers call them with an infected PC and see if they fake anything knew, install something worse while "evaluating" the problem or abuse the credit card information that is trusted to them. I get the impression that they are capable of doing what they say but hard to trust a guy that is remotely writing a service order on notepad on my pc. I'm not willing to write these guys off as a scam but definitely worth looking into a bit. Maybe just some poor computer geeks from India trying to make some money.
