Fresh Market rips off the customers on the weight of the meat. They charge by the piece (steak) and the steaks are all supposed to be a certain weight but they are cutting them smaller. I bought 5 steaks which I thought were 15.99 per lb. and actually ended up paying about double that amount per lb. because the Butcher, after pointed to the 15.99 price in the case, sold me the ones that were by the piece and then on top of that, he cut them smaller than they were marked on the receipt. I asked what the best buy was and he pointed to the $15.99 sign as though that was the price I would pay. When I said I would take 5 of them, he did not mention that I had to buy an entire loin which I could almost have had for what I paid. I WAS a regular shopper at the North Dale Mabry Tampa store but will NOT shop there in the future.
I would never have know what they did except that I was shocked when I got home and realized that I just paid $80 for 5 small steaks which the receipt said were all 9 ounces. Well, they were obviously random sizes, so I weighed them after testing the food scale for accuracy and they were 2-3 ounces under on every single one. I could have given them a pass on one or 2 of them, but ALL of them were cut small. It had to be intentional. I even took photos of them on the scale in case someone was interested.
I called the store and was told that if I came back with ONLY my receipt that I would be credited $40 and after driving almost 30 minutes to get there, the manager said that the Butcher, with whom I had spoken, did not have the authority to offer to pay me back any money and instead gave me some additional steak, which was really infuriating. They still, even after giving me some extra steak, charged me almost $20.00 per lb which was higher than the .99 per lb. that I believed that Iwas paying. to NEVER AGAIN!
OH, and to add insult to injury, the manager said he was ONLY taking my word that the steaks were small. I reminded him that I was bringing the steaks back and the butcher with whom I spoke, told me not to bring them. I called the corporate office to complain about the insulting behavior of the manager and found out that he (Louie) is not even a manager. I was promised by the corporate representative, that something would be done and I would be contacted by the store, but I have heard NOTHING.
I will go to whole foods from now on. They are the same distance and have most of the same products. Their loss.
