Thrifty Car Rental Reviews

I reserved and pre-paid for a car rental through thrifty with my vacation membership. Upon flying into boston Plane got in around 11:30pm), we were told by thrifty employees that they did not have any vehicles and basically were leaving us stranded at the airport! they did say that i would automatically receive a refund though since the rental was prepaid. After more than hour, ended up finding and renting a vehicle through budget. When i got back home, i checked to see if the credit card in which was used to pay for the vehicle Which was actually my son's cc) was credited back. It was not. I then attempted to contact thrifty who told me i had to contact my vacation membership and informed them what had occurred. They advised they would make sure the $ was refunded. After 2 weeks, i noted that it had not. I called them back and left a message and also attempted to send emails to both parties. After which, my son disputed the charge on his credit card. Now, his credit card company, citibank "claims" to have investigated the case and after only receiving from thrifty a copy of the original receipt and booking of the vehicle, went ahead and re-charged my son's card! so, they are basically claiming the money was owed to them -- for what? Being scam artists and liars!!!

Good car rental price via AAA at the Chicago Midway airport, but upon arrival Thrifty was out of cars. I along with four others was sent to the other rental companies and we were all told we would be reimbursed the difference in cost. Went to the Avis Premier and was required to buy all their bells and whistles of additional insurance to rent their car. Again Thrifty agent said I would be reimbursed the additional cost, which was $300 additional fees. The Avis Premier agent said Thrifty is out of cars every weekend. I submitted the form and received a call from the Thrifty Representative and was told they would not pay for the additional options that were not optional with Avis Premier. So beware of this Thrifty and Avis Premier scam. I would be impressed if this review will be available to aid others to avoid this costly scam. Robert, Chicago, Ill

Thrifty Car Rental ""Bait and Switch"" Ripoff.

Recently, my wife and I pre-arranged on line to rent an automobile from Thrifty Car Rental to use on our vacation trip to Germany. When we arrived at the Frankfurt Airport and presented our pre-rental agreement to Ms. Nicki, the representative of Thrifty Car Rental at that airport, she refused to abide by the wording of the pre-rental agreement. She said that, if we wanted to rent the car, we would be obligated to buy Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) and Theft Protection(TP) insurance coverages, both of which our pre-rental agreement with Thrifty had declared were ""optional at the counter"" coverages, depending on whethere or not we already had these coverages through our Gold ""World"" Master Card (which we did). The Thrifty LDW and TP coverages would increase our rental cost for the car we had reserved from the pre-rental quote of 402.29 euro (appx. $583.00) to over 1,000 euro (more than $1,450.00). No amount of logic or persuasion could budge Ms. Nicki from her position.

Therefore, reader, please be warned: when it comes to international car rentals in Europe, Thrifty Car Rental is currently playing a heinous, wholly unacceptable game of ""Bait and Switch,"" attemplting to extort almost three times their rental fee once they have hooked you into a reservation with them. We refused to rent Thrifty's car and found another car with another company, but, you need not put yourself through that added stress and expense. Do not seek to rent from Thrifty Car Rental in the first place: this company is not to be trusted.
