On 16 Jan 2012, I checked my propane tank and it was at 9% full. I called Thrifty Propane an hour later. On 17 Jan 2012, delivery driver indicated that he delivered "800.5 gallons" of propane when the actual amount was approximately 710 gallons. As I said, I had been reading the gauge periodically about once a week for the months of Dec and Jan as it ran down from 30% to 10%, because I knew the tank was running low. I checked the tank again the day before delivery (16 Jan) and it read 9% full on a 1000 gallon tank (roughly 90 gallons). The Thrifty propane driver delivered propane while I was at work (17 Jan), and left a receipt on the door that said he had delivered 800.5 gallons. I ran to the propane tank that night to check it because the max safety limit on the tank is 800 gallons, and I thought he might have overfilled the tank. Most propane tanks are rated at 80% capacity to prevent overpressure.

However, the gauge read exactly 80% (800 gallons). There is NO WAY that I could use 90 gallons of propane in one day. Absolutely no way. I don't even think a small leak could dissipate that much propane in one day. The usage rate in January is no more than 5 gal/day on the worst day, and that would be an extraordinary event. And the temperature that delivery day was 50 degrees. it was unusually warm. I called customer service, and he told me that they routinely filled propane tanks to 85% (which is patently UNTRUE. Propane tanks should never be filled above 80% to allow for expansion). When I told him that I had checked the tank, and it was exactly at the 80% mark, he became irritated, and said he needed to transfer me to the sales department. When he said this, I told him that I thought he was giving me the run-around, and if that was the case I had no options but to file a police report. He said I was threatening him (which I didn't) and hung up on me. The whole thing was very strange and surreal, because I'd never had any issues like this on any previous deliveries. I was a little ticked off at this point, but kept my cool and called the sales department. A sales rep ("Vicky") answered, and was very polite and professional, unlike the previous gentleman. She took my complaint, acknowledged that my story fit my historical profile of past deliveries, all of which had been between 690-700 gallons, because I always order at the 10% mark. She then promised to relay my complaint to "Dee", her supervisor, who would call me at 1 of 2 numbers I provided her. I thanked her for her time and believed the issue would be resolved. But Dee never called. I called the sales department back on 19 Jan at 4:20 PM, after giving them 2 days to respond. A man answered and said neither Vicki nor Dee were available, but he would be happy to help. I explained the history, and he read the notes in the computer and said something about "gauges sometimes stick", and that he wasn't calling me a liar, but he's never heard of having any issues with drivers. He then said that the computer said that Dee called and left a message. I checked both voicemails, no messages of any kind were left. he promised to relay the message to Dee again to call. I made one more call to the sales department, and finally on 20 Jan/6:30 PM EST I returned home from work to find the supervisor (Dee) called and said that she thinks my "gauges are sticking, they sometimes stick", and that for the low-low price of $99, plus $60/hr, she can have a service guy come out and look at my tank. REALLY? Wow, thanks for that. My gauges are not sticking! I intend to file a police report and record my notes, because I have a feeling I will be called a liar as this goes forward.

I just have to say that this whole thing is very bizarre. I've been doing business with Thrifty for the past two years, and have never had a problem. I have always checked the propane delivery against the propane tank gauge, and it has always been on-the-money within about 5 gallons of expected versus reported. My tank gauge is not "sticking". I watched it go down to 10% slowly over the last week before delivery, and it performed as it normally does. And the propane drained at the normal rate. There is just no explanation for this bizarre behavior, and I wouldn't believe it myself if it weren't happening to me. Customer service was especially poor, and I've dealt with all manner of customer service reps.

I recommend taking a picture of your gauge percentage before and after delivery to ensure you are not ripped off. My guess is that the delivery driver is at fault, so different areas may fare better. At any rate, I am out $180 on propane that I was charged for and did not receive. Very irritating.

Not going to say where I am but I am a delivery driver for this company, and you people are absolutely CORRECT! They do not care about the customers. When you place an order they don't even put you in the system for a few days to be delivered. Please do a search on level propane and a search under William maloof. This guy is a crook from WAY back. Tons of court issues, lawsuits, etc. it's worth paying the higher price from other companies to avoid this company!!

As drivers , we can't even get any customer service! Most of their delivery vehicles are kept at a bare minimum to be legal and a lot if times, they aren't! The owner had to put the company under his wife's name due to the fact he isn't supposed to be operating a propane business legally!! He owes millions to a bank and refuses to pay, he's a shady shady character! Please people, do some research and stay away from shifty propane!! Hope to god someone respectable buys out this company!!

When coming in form the hospital where my husband is in critical care, the house was very cold--temp of 48*, Called the furnace repairman[$80.00] who found nothing wrong. I checked the propane tank thinking we couldn't possibly be out since they delivered on Jan, 27th. Much to my dismay it was empty! When I called for a pre-paid fill up I was told it would take anywhere from 48-72 hrs. I questioned how I could have used 500 lbs in less than a month and was told that I was only given 200 lbs----a partial fill. If I wanted immediate service it would cost $300.00!! Family is coming in to comfort us and the temp is now down to 40*. What a ripoff

My past fills from thrifty I have been told 5 to 10 business day which mean 2 weeks and it is always been 10 business days (two full weeks) even when I have ran out last year which I accept it was my fault. I was told it would be sooner and some one would call me back I have never got a call back nothing has been document on my account. This Year again I ordered gas on the 19th of Feb. ran out on the Feb 27th due to unexpected cold snap I accept that I could of ordered sooner after calling several times and chatting online and being told some will be in touch This has not happen and as of today March 7th I have stilled not received a fill It has been 17 days and still waiting for a call or a fill. I price of gas is great customer service is horrible in my area.

I have paid Thrifty Propane for propane to be delivered, Almost two weeks ago from the day of this complaint. Then I realized on a wednesday night I was out, and and called them Thursday morning. I was going to do the emergency delivery, and eat the fee. They told me not to, as we were scheduled to have our propane delivered on Friday, and even with the emergency delivery, they still had 24 hours to deliver the feul.

So I decided not to have it delivered at a $200-$300 fee. Friday came and went, and no delivery. So I called them Friday night, and they said their driver decided he couldn't make it, and I would be one of the first to get my feul on Saturday morning.

Here it is at end of buisness day Saturday, and still no feul. No heat, No hot water, and all they can tell me is they tried calling their driver and tried texting him, with no response. They don't know when I will get my feul delivered.

I have asked to be connected to a supervisor, and they claim they don't know how to get ahold of anyone that I could talk to about my complaint. What kind of a buisness is this? Not one being ran correctly, that's for sure. They had no problem taking my money, but now are having big problems coming through with delivering my feul.

The company is despicable. My parents are 76 years old in Ohio. They pre-purchased Propane from Thrifty Propane. This week 01/22/14. They notice they were getting low on propane. Thrifty Propane told them it would be 7-10 days for delivery and if they wanted emergency delivery it would cost an additional $350. Fearing they were getting too low they did the emergency delivery. Once there they filled what they had pre-purchased.

They found the tank could hold an additional 300 gallons. The driver informed them that the "New" price this week was over $4 per gallon. Twice the pre-purchase price. Thrifty Propane is stealing money on delivery and price gouging. Today 01/28/14 the stated price on the company site is $2.99. With weather -15 Thrifty Propane sees a perfect opportunity make money and price gouge. They didn't make a special trip to my parents. They don't have to gouge their clients.

Thritfy Propane is stating that it will be 7-10 days to deliver. They know this will scare clients into paying a much higher "emergancy" delivery fee. I dont see how this is any different than gas stations pre-gouging when the twin towers were hit by terrorist. This can not be allowed to continue. This should be criminal. Many of the elderly have fixed incomes and simply cant afford this type of minipulation. How many other clients did they do this to this week.

My parents are elderly in their 80's and not in the best of health. My husband went over to clean the snow off their steps and walkways after a recent snow storm. Since they are unable to get out of the home on a regular basis my husband gets their mail, puts out their trash and does odd jobs around the house. For some odd reason my husband decided to check their propane level in the tank. He was amazed to find it read zero.

My Mother called Thrift Propane that day January 25th 2014. She was told they would get a delivery out soon. They had prepaid several hundred dollars previously and thought they were on automatic delivery. When the propane was still not delivered by Monday January 27th she called again. They told her there was no record of her call on Saturday and there was a 7 day wait.

We receuved a phone call on Monday evening stating their house was cold as they had completly ran out of propane. We took over 2 electric space heaters for them to use. Later that night my Mom got hungry and tried to fix herself a cup of soup in the microwave. Not realizing she would overload the breaker box she flipped a circuit. Their breaker box is in the basement. Now remember I told you they were elderly and had trouble getting around. She made her way to the basement and flipped the switch which she thought was the correct one. In doing so she flipped the main breaker and killed the electric to the whole home. Having arthritus in her hands she was not strong enough to flip the breaker back into the on position.

My Father soon had to go to the restroom and dropped the flashlight my Mom has given he. He stumbled and fell on the floor not being strong enough to pull himself back up. My Mom called the Life Squad to help. The Mt Orab Emergency Life Squad responded. They were able to get help my Dad up off the floor and restore the electric to the home. The Life Squad even called Thrity Propane the following day to let them know my Dad is a cardiac patient and has disabetis and on oxygen. They needed their propane now. We were told it would now be another 7-10 days before they would be able to deliver.

The next morning when I found out about the incidence I went over and packed up my partents and brought them to my house to stay for a few days. I myself called Thrifty Propane. I spoke with Tammy several times. I was told that for an emergency amount of $350.00 they could move my parents to the top of the delivery list but it would knock another person out of their delivery for that day. My parents are not rich and could not afford this exuberent amount. Although they had 749 gallons of propane already paid for it could not be delivered.

It is now February 3rd and has been a week today since the second call to Thrifty Propane for delivery. My Mom called them this morning and was put on hold by Sheryl while she checked with the driver to see if a delivery could be made today. After holding for 45 minutes Sheryl still did not respond and left my Mom on hold. We have tried to call back several times and get a recording to leave a message and number and they would get back to you. We have left 2 messages and still have to receive a return call.

I feel Thrifty Propane is taking advantage of an elderly couple who have prepaid their Social Security money for propane and they are failing to deliver the goods. Beware Customers Do Not Deal With Thrifty Propane.

I ordered a 500 gallon propane tank on 1/6/2012, and paid via electronic check. Thrifty propane told me that the no longer do business in my county, and told me that the refunded the money that I had paid $1,854.34. Instead, on 1/10/2012, they took three times as much as they were entitled to take $5,563.02. None of my telephone calls have been returned, and no product has been delivered. This operation is clearly a scam. I am going to sue Thrifty Propane, and will be filing a criminal complaint for theft by stealing.

I called Thrifty on Jan 4th to get a propane fill for 2 tanks that we have. I told them I was running low, below 10%, they said they would be out in 1-5 days. In the past, they always showed up the next day. I called on 1/9 to say we were out of propane. We still have a little left, but don't want to bleed it dry. They said someone would be out that afternoon. At 5:30 no one had made it out, called again and they said they would be there first thing in the morning.

Call the next morning around 10 am, and I was told the truck scheduled for my delivery had broken down but another truck would be out by end of day, and some one would call us to let us know when. I called back a few times to check, each time they promised someone would check and call me back. Never got a call back. at 5:30 called again, and she promised to call me back by 6:00 whether a truck was going to make it out or not. No Call gain.

Called 1/11 first thing, I was told that 'this is rediculous, I will go get a truck myself and drive it to your house' by Jamie. She promised to call me back within 10 minutes. 2 hrs later, no call. Called back and insisted on a manager, got her voice mail. She finally called back an hour later and had located another truck and they would head my way as soon as they were done with their delivery.

Around 1:30 he showed up, knocked on my door, and said sorry, I will have to come back another day, my truck just broke down. This is now the 3rd truck that has 'broken down'. Called the manager again, Dee, and she told me to call another company. I also talked with other representatives, one guy, didn't catch his name said he couldn't tell me anything (this was on 1/10), said there was no way to know where the drivers were, or if or when anyone would ever get to me (how nice).

I called again, and I wished I had written down everyones names, but basically all I got was a pack of lies, and failed promises. I have been freezing in my house for 4 days now, no hot water, and no stove or oven. I did call another company and they will be out here on 1/13, so 2 more days of freezing, but at least the company I called is a local company with a real office that I can go into if I need to.

You can't find anything but a PO box for Thrifty, so that right there should warn you all to stay away. I would not recommend Thrifty to anyone. Failed promises, lies, total disregard for my situation, they can take this crappy company and shove it!!! You would think they would have at least offered me a discount through all of this grief, but nope, just told me to call someone else.

I applied for a job posted on Craigslist and sent my resume.

Kathleen contacted me and asked if I was interested in position- I said yes I was called by Kathleen to take drug test in lancaster (55 miles away from my home), I asked if I could use a branch office 3 miles from my home- Kathleen said she would check and call me back, Kathleen also asked me if the owner of the company had called me yet; I responded No; she asked if I was sure; I responded "I think I would remember something like that"! This was on a Tuesday. Sunday evening, the owner did call me and said he was anxious to meet me on Monday- I said "excuse me", he responded that Kathleen had told him I had already given my 2 week notice and was starting Monday- I replied "NO one told me I was hired yet, that I was Still waiting for Kathleen to call me back about where to take the drug test! He said he would call Kathleen and then call me by 9:30am Monday; well Kathleen called me at 7:30 Monday and couldnt understand why I never took the drug test! I responded that I was waiting on her call as to which office to go to- she said I HAD to go to lancaster, I said, OK, do you have an address? She gave me the address and I went the next morning, then called her as I left the building, and also asked her when I should give my notice and she said today. I went back to my part time school bus job for my afternoon run and promptly gave my 2 week notice, then called Kathleen back and advised her of my last day with bus company, which was 5/18/12.

On 5/17/12, Kathleen called me to tell me they no longer needed me! I find this an outrage and utterly unprofessional to say the least! Then she added that they feared I would leave their full time position to go back to driving school bus in the fall (as a part time position). I said to her " he did NOT say that! Seriously? What kind of person, or major company screws with a persons livelihood, even if only part time, but alas, my ONLY source of income- tell me to give my notice, then wait the 2 weeks to say they "dont need me" Had it not been for MY ethics and had given less notice- I would be unemployed right now! How or what can I do to seek action against their gross lack of professionalism? I did everything she asked within 1 business day of every communication, and think what Thrifty did is horendous!!!

At first, Thrifty Propane seemed like a pretty good company with reasonable prices and quality product so I purchased a tank and fuel from them. However eventually I began to get unsolicited phone calls from them. I asked them to stop but the calls kept coming. So far I have told them 3 times to remove my name from their lists. They just say they do and they don't. I use prepaid cell phone with a number used only for emergencies. Calls from them disrupt me in classroom during tests and such. I do not need them calling me to tell me to buy gas. I know how to buy gas. I told them I would stop doing business with them should they call me one more time-three times ago. I will not tolerate this any more. Me doing business with them again is out of the question now; at this point it is just how many places I complain and raise a stink.

Thrifty Propane sent me an email advertisement stating "We guarantee to beat any current pricing by at least 10 cents per gallon." I tried three different times to get them to honor their advertisement, but none of their phone personnel would acknowledge it. All I could get out of them is "I'll try to get you the best price I can. I need my manager to OK it".

I had a quoted price from Baker's Gas for $1.28 per gallon for 850 gallons of HD5 propane (the same type of propane that Thrifty sells). Thrifty Propane should have sold it to me for $1.18 per gallon, 10 cents less than Baker's Gas. However, the best price I could get from Thrifty was $1.269 per gallon.

I called Baker's Gas again, thinking that perhaps the price of propane had increased and that Thrifty was actually giving me the 10 cent discount they advertised. However, Baker's Gas informed me that the price of propane had actually decreased to $1.25 per gallon, so I made my purchase from Baker's Gas.

Based on their advertisement of beating any current pricing by 10 cents per gallon, I feel that Thrifty Propane owes me $86.25, since my actual purchase was 862.5 gallos of propane. If Thrifty Propane is allowed to make false statements, they shoud pay for it.

In Janurary 2013 my parents home was destroyed by fire. They had no insurance so they lost everything. In February 2013 my father died from cancer. I called Thrifty Propane to cancel propane service because the home was no longer there and my elderly mother could not afford to rebuild.

At this time, my parents had approximately 953 gallons of propane prepaid for. They paid Thrifty Propane between $1.79 per gallon and $1.89 per gallon depending on the price per gallon at the time they prepaid. (Usually when he received his social security check)

My mother was reimbersed 92 cents per gallon instead of the amount that they paid which averaged out to $1.84 per gallon. She was reimbursed HALF of what she paid. We were told that it is Thrifty Propane's POLICY to refund the customer Thrifty Propane's wholesale price and not the actual amount that the customer paid for their product.

This is definately stealing from the customer and taking advantage of the elderly. When asked to show my father's signature on any prepay agreement showing that he may have been aware of this policy...they could not.

I called Thrifty Propane and requested price for delivery (I own the tank and buy from lowest price seller - Thrifty used in the past). Thrifty quoted $2.40/gallon (website now quotes 2.839/gallon). I told them I had a Farrel gas quote of $1.79/gallon and requested price beat as listed on web site as follows:

Guaranteed lowest price: find a lower unconditional price, we will beat it by 10 cents per gallon. Open 24-7-365.

I was told I would get a call back. 3 days later, nothing. I entered a chat with a representative, who again confirmed the price beat offer, and said I would be called. I told her I was still waiting. She said they would call. Still no call, a week later.

Thrifty propane has the worst customer service. After you prebuy propane they refuse to deliver it to you. When you try to get it delivered they hang up on you, disconnect you on the phone, are rude and refuse to communicate with you.

I was with Surburban propane for years and never experienced anything like this. Surburburan warned me this was going to happen and I thought it was just a sales tactic - it was the truth - I am here in below zero temps without heat and have already paid Thrifty over $5,000 that they have in escrow!! Buyers beware you get a cheaper propane price but you will have to pay for frozen pipes, medical bills from getting sick etc. Thrifty will cost you way more in the long run. If anyone else has had problems please post so that we can join forces against them.

  • Jan 31, 2015

We ordered a propane refill. When it got down to 10% we started to call and ask WHEN they were coming. They said 5 -10- business day???? When we got to 5% we called daily and got the same shananigans. We finally said forget it and called around. We found a company willing to come out the next day for no delivery charge (Thrifty charges $20 for each delivery) and at .01 cent cheaper. I know it isn't much, but Thrifty 'guarantees' to be the cheapest. My neighbor had the same issue and he was locked in at a higher rate than us. He called the company we recommended and saved .11 cents per gallon. What a ripoff company...charging $85 for gauranteed lower prices and fast delivery and not coming throught on anything.

After reading the other posts we are sooooo glad we were not paying by debit/credit.

On January 11, 2015 I placed an order with Thrifty Propane. On the order I indicated that I had been lax in monitoring my propane supply and the guage was currently reading zero (0), even though I still had propane. I received a call back from someone within 30 minutes, on a Sunday, asking if I wanted to pay the extra $$$ for an emergency shipment. I told her I could hold out and wait for the delivery, which, in the past, had taken 3-4 days. 10 days later I emailed Thrifty to find out where my delivery was. At this point, I was out of propane which meant no heat, no cooking, no clothes dryer, and worst of all (cold showers). I had to go around and put electric space heaters in critical locations in my house to ensure that the pipes would not freeze. I continued to call Thrifty every day, leaving messages with whoever answered the phone. Everyone was polite (even though I was not) but I NEVER received a call back and I NEVER received any propane. Finally, on January 26, 2015 I found another propane supplier who would fill my tank and paid them to do so. I called the Thrifty Propane billing office and yelled at the clerk (Erik)...hey, you try taking a week of cold showers! Anyway, he listened and, true to form, never followed up. So, now I am relegated to filing a claim in the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in an attempt to get back the money that I had given to Thrifty as part of their prebuy program in March 2014. What a pain in the butt! I should have realized that things were headed south with Thrifty last winter. On two separate occasions they showed up and would not fill my tank. They would only pump 200 gallons, even though they had my prebuy money. Argggg!
