Trump Hotel Collection Reviews

  • Jan 14, 2015

Dear Donald Trump, Hawaii Visitors Bureau and others

It is common knowledge in the local Hawaii community that tourists in Waikiki are treated like gold and locals treated poorly. The hotels only like our business when things are bad.

My best friend/crew and I were given a E square gift card and after inquiring at the Trump Tower website and front desk, were told that we could use the credit at any restaurant in the hotel. Mid afternoon, Monday, January 5, 2015 we decided to spend the card at Waiolu Restaurant for pupus and BLT dinner, Trump tower Waikiki.

We entered the Waiolu restaurant. Only 2 other couples were there. We later discovered that one of the couples drinking at the bar was the restaurant manager "Malia". We sat down, ordered what was touted on the menu as the "world's best maitai", my friend ordered a glass of wine and then ordered some pupus. I put the gift card on the table and told the waiter that our evening was on a friend. About 15 minutes later, the waiter asked us to see the card. He returned and told us that the card was only good at the BLT, not Waiolu. I told him what we were told by the lobby and he apologized, we were then shocked, dismayed and embarrassed as the waiter took our menus off the table and walked away. I called to our waiter and told him to come back with the menus, we were not finished. I put my credit card on the table and for the rest of our time, we were subjected to very bad service. Despite that, Kate and I continued to eat and drink, willing to pay for our own food and drink. I told Kate that I was going to Yelp these idiots and leave a $1.00 tip so they would remember us.

After about another 1/2 hour where we ordered more drinks and pupus, another waiter came to our table and by accident, knocked my friends glass of wine onto the floor, shattering it all over the place. The woman who was sitting at the bar all this time drinking with a guy, then came over to our table and asked if we were OK. I asked who she was, she identified herself as "the manager". I told her about our problem with the card, and that maitai was really bad, not the "worlds best". Malia apologized, walked away to resume drinking with the young guy at the bar. FYI: The sashimi was sliced too thick and not fresh. The "ocean view" was just barely seen over the coconut trees. Second rate at best.

We ordered another round of drinks and more pupus. I left a $1.00 tip on a $72.00 bill, with the words "Yelp Malia, worst service and maitai" walked out smiling, thanking everyone for the "wonderful experience and service". What a bunch of idiots.

We were not even comped for the spilled drink. My next email will recommend you for "Restaurant Impossible". No wonder your restaurant was empty. On our way over there, we walked along the beach, past the Hilton, their beach front restaurants were packed. The internet and email info software really gives consumers a public forum to post bad experiences like this. You should be ashamed.

I will ask E square to give me cash for my gift card. I do not want to have anything to do with them either.

Yes Donald, you can put your hotel and restaurant where the sun, clearly, never shines. For good food, ocean views and service, Helakulani is the best. I will cc this email to all of our friends. You treated us badly, took our dime, but the joke is on you and the idiots that work at your hotel. :)
