My elderly disabled parents were scammed today by Uniway of Columbia. I only wish that they would've told me about this little adventure they went on before they left. I could've saved them the trip. I'm not sure what I can do to help them now. I can say that at least no money has transferred from my parents to this company as of yet, but they did sign a contract with them. I'm advising them not to pay the 1,000.00 membership fee, and I would like to know if any attorneys are looking into this business. They are preying on the weak, disabled, single parents, and on those who are just too nieve to recognize that they're being scammed. I'm outraged to know that this will go on my parent's credit! There should be a 72 hour contract cancelation available to my parents, and others who discover too late that this company is a rip-off. They promise all this free swag, and half off of retail if you buy off line through their catalog. You don't get this catalog however. You just have to take their word that anything you want to purchase off line they have it, and at half off the retail price. Their sales practices our ghastly to say the least they bully, intimidate, and insult you into signing! Then they don't hold up to their end of the bargain when it comes to the merchandise they offer at half off. They act as if it's anything your little heart desires, when in fact their supplies are very limited! I also noticed in some of the other reports that the membership amounts vary O.o... There has to be something illegal in the way they are ripping these individuals off. If there is an attorney with a heart please read this, and the other complaints. Research this company, and shut them down before anyone else gets scammed!!! My parents gave these people their personal information including their SSN's. If you are a future consumer reading this, please don't give anyone your personal information, and if it sounds too good to be true... IT'S A SCAM.

At least a year ago I went to a sales representation at Uniway of Columbia. They made their sercvices very attractive and I signed up. They offered a prize for attending the program, which was a "Gift Card" that was only useable at one company and offered only a few overpriced items, I never found a use for the card. They stated that they would save me one-half off of purchases and would furnish me with a catalog to peruse and select from. I received no catalog. I later decided to purchase three items through them and subsequently saved very little, expecially after paying shipping charges that they didn't mention were to be charged on purchases. I had to demand that my step-daughter be allowed in the showroom to look at their in-house catalogs to select my purchases. I ordered these items, two of which were readily available for order and told that the other item would have to wait until they had three items to order from the other company. I selected another different side table from the same company as the other item. I checked in with them a day after they had indicated that the items were to be delivered, since I hadn't heard from them as they had told me that they would do. The items were there, but I had to arrange with a friend to pick them up and deliver them to me. They wanted an outrageous delivery fee. I haven't ordered anything else from them since. A couple of months ago I received and 'annual' fee bill that I wasn't expecting. I wasn't told that there was an annual fee, so I haven't paid it.

Last week I called them to cancel the services. I was informed that I couldn't without paying the total amount due on the contract. I told the woman that I wasn't going to pay it and wanted to cancel the service. She became obnoxious and said that they would turn it over to a collection agency and report the default to the credit bureau. I told her to go ahead that I wasn't paying anymore. I've subsequently cancelled the account with my bank.

Seniors and anyone else, don't fall for their fast talking and high promising talk. It's phoney! It has been nothing but trouble and unnecessary and unaffordable expense for me.
